Oh, boy, do I love these sheets!

I realize not everyone has the same definition of great sheets, but these get an A+ from me. I ordered them before I got sick, and it was good timing because I've changed my sheets several times.

The new sheets are Egyptian cotton in a sateen weave, which gives them a slightly silky feel and a bit of a sheen. They are very soft. I ordered them in Khaki, which is more like a light bronze. Lovely color. Deep pockets for my thick mattress. I like everything about them.

What are your ideal sheets?

I have some Egyptian cotton ones also that I got at TJMaxx. I love them! Even DH has commented on how nice they are.

Seattle? You should have mentioned that first thing. You are lucky in that the predominant turf grass for your area is ryegrass. Ryegrass has the characteristic of sprouting very quickly, so if you wanted to reseed, you could still get away with it. Also, since you live in Seattle, the summer heat might not kill the new grass. In the rest of the country you have to throw in that warning but not necessarily in the PNW. So I rescind my comment that now is not the time to reseed. For you and you alone, go for it. But still I would be trying to revive the lawn you have. Unless it is really dead, and you should know by now, I would water it deeply and apply an organic fertilizer like alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow). Watch it carefully for signs of getting worse. I If you are able to get an inch of water on it now I would not water again for 2-3 weeks unless you were sure the grass was suffering from drying out. Generally the lawn experts do not work at Home Depot. Those are the shelf stocking experts who might have had minimal training about the products they stock. We used to have an expert here at GardenWeb from Vancouver. I learned a lot from her back in 2001 and 2002. When the organic gardening history books are written, Althea should get the credit for bringing used coffee grounds as an organic fertilizer to the attention of the forums. That revelation was vital to the understanding of the modern organic gardening movement as we move out of the Rodale era. Aaaaand that's your history lesson for the day. I think I got that right. My mother-in-law used to let our nephew go outside to the front step and piddle overboard into her flower garden. I thought it was a bit weird, considering the proper bathroom was closer when you were already in the house. I guess she was smarter than I thought. BTW I'm surprised you were able to keep from laughing. Maybe you could post a little sign, LOL.

My world looks pretty much like that of UNBIDDEN. There was some melting today, as the temps were in the high 40s and we had a big all-day rainstorm yesterday. Just enough to give a spring-like smell to the air and tantalize. Already the radio weatherman says to prepare for a lot colder weather starting Monday, and possible MORE snow Wedneday. Argh! It's not fair. I've had to plan errands with care. Every errand depended on whether I thought I could get a parking space upon my return, as every other place to park a car was piled high with snow and at the same time competing with the thoughtless students at a nearby college, who think it's fine to leave 3 or 4 feet between their car and the next car fore and aft. So people who own residences can't even park in front of their own home! Having to park 2 and 3 blocks away from my own home, especially when carrying heavy packages, is not fun, especially when it's icy. The students couldn't care less.

Thanks for the many replies. I'm back home now - for keeps! I've been on the road for three weeks in Illinois and as soon as I got home, I ran out to North Carolina (about a four-hour drive) to see this Magnolia! BTW, that house linked in this post (Phalen Funeral Home) is a beautiful home, but that is not a Sears Magnolia. The Sears Magnolia was based on a very popular style (Colonial Revival + Foursquare), but the actual Sears Magnolia is quite unique. My favorite sheets were discontinued years ago and if I had known I would have bought extras while I could. They were Wamsutta Supercale and I still have 2 sets that are over 12 years old and the fabric is in great shape. I did have to sew on new elastic. I like cool, crisp sheets and these were my favorite.

I posted this topic on the Home Decorating forum the other day asking if anyone could recommend similar sheets.

Thanks Alisande. I just went to Overstock and they only have them in red and dark grey. I ordered dark grey. I would have loved to have them in purple. I was just thinking this morning that I really needed to buy sheets. My bottom sheet shredded a few weeks ago and I have been using a flat sheet as a bottom sheet but it doesn't stay tucked in. I can't wait for the new sheets to arrive.

Linda (in Iowa), you should get some sheet garters for securing flat sheets when used as a bottom sheet.

I love the sheets that are on our bed right now. They're Lands' End Cotton Knit -- soooooo comfy! And our mattress is 16" thick so these fit great!

Oh, good, LindaÂI hope you like them as much as I do! I guess I was lucky to get my first color choice. I'll bet the grey (greys are very close to purples) looks rich and beautiful. Let us know!

I wonder if Overstock will restock. I was planning to check out my kids' sheet needs before Christmas.

I never heard of bamboo sheets, just bamboo cutting boards. :-)

The FTC recently ruled that once the fibers from bamboo are processed for manufacturing they are then rayon. Rayon is made from the cellulose in plants. I think what the FTC was concerned about was the advertising some companies used which was misleading to the general public. Maybe it's just a technicality but I found it interesting.

I bought some bamboo fabric socks. Wouldn't recommend them - mine got holes in them after just a few wearings.

The most comfortable sheets I ever had were flannel sheets from LLBean. After about 6 months of use, they developed pilling. I sent a letter of complaint and LLBean sent me a new set for free. Great company!

maire_cate -- Wamsutta Supercale for me, too! I'm down to one set of King Size but have two sets of twins.

I guess we know why they don't make these anymore. They're great and they wear forever!

I wish someone could tell us how they made them so nice and so sturdy.

My next-most-favorite are Kirkland Supima Cotton from Costco. (Thank you, KT member who suggested these!)

I just got my first set of Egyptian cotton sheets about a month ago. I'm in love. SO is in love also. Every night when we go to bed the last thing we say to each other is 'I love these sheets' and 'so do I'. Use to the last thing we said to each other was 'I love you' LOL

Maire_Cate, I saw your post at the Decorating Forum the other day and have been researching cool, crisp sheets so that the next time I go out shopping for them, I will know just what to look for. DH really likes cool and crisp so that's what he's getting for Father's Day. At our age, if a gift doesn't come from a drug store, it's special. :-)
