We are having Grilled Chicken (which I will turn into chicken salad with the leftovers) Saute'd Onions & Peppers and Baked Beans...

We have a newly opened Winn Dixie that serves wonderful takehome meals.

Mine was the $5.99 meal, with two pieces double dipped fried chicken breast and a wing, baby green limas, creamed corn.

They have a Butcher Block for $7.99 with prime rib, today, roasted brussel sprouts and some kind of salad.

Ahhh, aren't you the clever one with your title. lol Are you a Hank Williams fan?

I had leftover split pea soup, and a side dish of chicken salad.

I just came off our back hill after pulling out thistles before they bloom and DH was using a sprayer in some very dense patches on the sunny side of the hill (Ortho weed killer- we NEVER use ANYTHING made by EVIL Monsanto!) He tried hard to miss spraying any of the wildflowers. Down below in the garden I am working on permanently reinforcing the sides of the stream that goes into my pond- the raccoons keep breaking them down. I don't mind if they ENJOY the stream, I am just really tired of building it back again. My lilacs are about done blooming and daphne is all over for this year, but the veronicas and montbretias are beautiful, also the tecomaria is beginning and will bloom for months.(Hummers love it!) The same goes for the passionflowers. The heucheras are about to bloom and both the fragrant white lady banks vine and the yellow one are putting on a real show. But I am about to leave all this to enjoy a second early spring garden in Virginia where my sister lives! Then in a few weeks I will go up to Oregon to admire my daughter's early spring gardens. These "Chasing Spring" trips are fun but I know that when I return, there will be a whole lot of work waiting for me here. Min

Plantmaven- Your garden pictures are so beautiful...but that little bird is just charming :) Gardenweed- Your peonies are lovely. We have some that came with the place that look very similar...and they have a nice fragrance. Thyme- Your garden is so pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing all your new veggies, next summer. Freezengirl- I do have Walker's Low catmint. It's in the kitchen garden. For some reason, the barn kitties leave it alone out there, but when I try to plant it closer to the house...disaster! LOL That's one reason I have so much lavender. Wren-garden, I have my blueberries mixed in with everything else, but I don't put acid on my soil, either. If you decide you need to add acid, then they'll look great with azaleas, rhodedendrons and hydrangeas (if you like the blue ones). I don't grow any of these (the first two are poisonous to horses) but I'm pretty sure they all like acid soil. Think about what else would grow under/with pine trees. As for deer...they can be a challenge, but ours are so darn cute, we try to make the garden work with them, rather than trying to get rid of them. I've read all deer are different, depending on where you live, how many they are (how hungry they are) and if there are so many...they just devastate everything. That being said, we've had good luck with butterfly bushes, lavender, catmint, bee balm, daisies, coneflowers, cosmos, marigolds, zinnias, peonies, daffodils, lilacs, plum trees, clematis, columbine, pansies, and mints. Love those snow angels! Momj's cat has the right idea. And David... those rolls.. yummm... Both of us have colds. As Christy was hacking across the pillow the other night I knew my turn was coming and sure enough yesterday it set in. So today as I mentioned on the spilt pea thread we made two pounds of split pea soup. I was going to make biscuits but wasn't feeling that great so we are having toast croutons with it. That's what my Mother always made so that's always nice to have good memories along with a bowl of goodness. I love cornbread with it but Christy doesn't so I if I feel better tomorrow I'll make some so I can have it for a couple days while I have the soup for breakfast and lunch. Smiles. Tomorrow, since she's not quite up to par, Christy is going to make one of her comfort foods, weenie stew. Hot dogs cooked in a tomato sauce with N.O. seasonings [grn. pepper, onion, celery and garlic] and served over mashed potatoes. Surprisingly good and super easy. It finally started snowing here. Everything has a good covering but that's about it so far. It has been quite cold. Ten in the mornings and up to about sixteen during the day. It stays colder here on our little hill than the surrounding area. Hopefully we won't get this much this time. Smiles. Just thought I'd throw this pet pic in. This was from our Dec. blizzard.

Day After Thanksgiving . . . Whatcha Doing???

We camped. It was GREAT! We haven't been in a while. We hosted Thanksgiving, but ate early (noon) as my brother and SIL were going back to her parents to eat again that evening. Worked out well as we left late afternoon. We're within an hour of The Great Smoky Mts. national park and Cades Cove is one of our most favorite placess. Hubby had taken the camper up on Wednesday, so it was all set up. We took Thanksgiving dinner leftovers and had it all again Friday night. Took breakfast foods and snack type stuff (cheese/crackers, fruit, sliced ham, etc.) so other than warming everything Friday evening, I did no cooking. Temps were 60's in the daytime but quite chilly at night. Stars were amazing. We have heat in the camper and I had a set of flannel sheets and a warm blanket - so we were snug. We took lots of long walks/hikes,so hopefully worked off the extra calories. It was so nice to relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors after a week of prepping and also dealing with a situation with my grandmother and her assisted living. Her roommate passed away and is has caused a bit of regression on her part. But anyway, it was just what we needed. Came home today and I'm in my jammies, taking it easy. House is clean, laundry is going and I'm just enjoying! We will decorate later in the week. Had thought to maybe put out the wreaths, greenery, etc. outside this afternoon but it rained earlier and still damp. Ann - I know you will enjoy tomorrow - have fun!! tina

We had sautÃÂ©ed scallops and cucumber salad. The scallops were not great. Frozen, wild caught and USA, but we were disappointed. On the other hand, the big lobster I cooked for my sister was excellent. Laura, we are talking Sunday dinner, right?

DH had a hamburger smothered in onions and mushrooms with home fries and corn on the cob. I cooked up a chicken tonight for chicken salad so I nibbled on some of the dark meat. Seems like a lot of us are on the same page with chicken salad. I'm having Mexican train here Tuesday night after our member guest day and luncheon. I figured it will be a late lunch and no one is going to feel much like dinner so I decided to served chicken salad on some crackers for people to nibble on along with a ground beef and been dip with corn chips. That should cover it for Tuesday.

We split an omelet loaded with mushrooms, green onions, green peppers, fresh spinach, a bunch of cheese (cheddar, swiss, pepper jack) . Fresh fruit and yogurt on the side.

Here you go, ShirleyÃ¢ÂÂ¦

Sombrero Dip

1/2 C chopped onion cooked with
1/2 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
Stir in 1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C. hot ketchup*
add 1 8 oz. can kidney beans, mashed

Cook together and put in serving bowl and top with grated cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, & sliced pimento olives. Serve with corn chips

*In all the years I've been making this, I've yet to find hot ketchup so I just add some hot sauce to the ketchup. Enjoy!

Hey, good-lookin! Happy "Sunday!" LOL

It rained all day with coolish temps. I was in the mood for a beef roast so that's what we had. I cooked enough potatoes to make potato salad tomorrow, with the grilled sausages that is planned.

So tonite was roast beef and gravy, potatoes and sauteed asparagus. Fresh made rhubarb pie was dessert.

Speaking of asparagus.... I bought asparagus at my usual supermarket. When I washed them, they felt gritty. When I tasted one during cooking, it was still gritty. I rinsed them after cooking and it still did not get the first off. Intossed them.

I have never had this issue.

I did complain to the assistant produce manager who said he would pass it on. I didn't have my receipt ( who saves a grocery receipt?) they should have offered me a free bunch, but whatever.

Have any of you had an issue with asparagus?

About 10% of the last asparagus I bought turned grey and kind of slimy when I blanched them. I've never had that happen. I threw the icky ones out. The others tasted fine.

Because of my snake-y adventure earlier in the evening I didn't feel much like cooking.
I found some oriental pork dumplings from Trader Joe's in the freezer, made a package of ramen noodles, and steamed some of the sugar snap peas I had picked from the garden.

Glenda-I will have to check into those hot dinner meals from Winn Dixie because that is where I buy my groceries from,.

Gadgets-Tony would love your split pea soup and since I am going to fox chicken salad out the rest of my chicken I would love your chicken salad.
