Everything in my house is odd.......I have no sense for interior decorating but I am happy with my odd assortment of styles and pictures.

The worms are my composters. All my veggie scraps I give to them. When they get soft and gooey, the worms go to town.
They make lovely dark, rich compost, which I always have too much of and I give away to my friends and my parents.

Imagine hubby's nervousness, when I first asked him if I could have worms in our apartment.

There is no smell and they don't leave the bins. No one would know they were there if I didn't tell them.

Yep, Moni still has hers as well, Glenda. I believe hers are outside in a shed or something.

Jas, I am surprised about your worm motel. You live in an apartment, and as such, don't have much personal use for the worm doo.

Yes, you are right, mine live outdoors. I took my old dryer apart when it died, and am using the drum on the ground, with them worms in there. An old trash can lid covers it.

At some point I got soldier fly larvae in my bins, and that so grossed me out, that the worms got moved out.

Not much activity in there in the dead of winter, everyone goes low and hides, trying to keep warm. But come spring the activity revs up, and they are in high compost mode right now.

I agree, Moni, I have way more worm poop than I know what to do with. But I hated throwing out all my veggies, when I know I can do something good with it.

I advertise my worm poop on our Freecycle and it always gets interest. A lot of questions too! LOL

Believe it or not, I've held workshops in our community room downstairs. I've supplied bins, worms, paper, cardboard and leaves to set up the bins, a little garden fork and a manual......all for a cost of course.

Had a couple workshops last year, put on the coffee and everyone had a blast. All hands-on.

I've been thinking of getting worms . . . a friend has promised to set me up if I want.

The former owners of this house created a little playhouse for their five-year-old son out of a bedroom closet. When Joe and I moved into that bedroom we promised ourselves that we'd turn it back into a useful storage area first thing. That was 35 years ago. The bedroom is now the guest room, and "Jason's House" is still on my To Do list. :-)

That is just so cool, Jasdip! I used to raise meal worms because I was raising fancy goldfish. I didn't have a set up to raise earthworms, per se, but I had a lot of horses in stalls, and composted the manure and shavings and had lots of worms that I also fed to the fish. I went back to raising meal worms for awhile a few years ago because I was rehabbing baby armadillos, but it wasn't practical to feed them the meal worms because they were too small and they missed a lot of them. I have a book called (I think) Let an Earthworm be your Garbage Man.

The way I was raised, you never threw a scrap of food in the trash. If you didn't have chickesn or dogs and cats or some creature to feed it to, you put it outside under a rose bush or something. My sister stayed here one time for 8 months.
I came home one day to a horrible smell, and saw she was burning trash, and in the trash, vegetable scraps, apple peelings, etc....also along with cans and bottles...which, of course, don't burn. You know with all the animals here, I can't believe she did that. I told her, "I can't believe we were raised by the same woman." :( To this day, I cannot throw out a tiny scrap of food. Instead of being raised with the old saying, "A starving child in India would like to have that"....my mother always said, "A little bird would like to have that."
