My 13 yr old Granddaughter appears to be a "Freak" to me. She claims her style is "Emo" Grrrrrrrrr.
What was the "First" style you adopted that freaked your parents out?
Mine was "Beatnik" I had long straight hair down to my butt, a black beret, wore one of my Dads white, longsleeve shirts, and black tights. And of course carried my Bongos everywhere I went! LOL
AA, had to LOL at your Beatnik Bongo phase. I didn't ever go through anything like that, but my DD sure as heck put me through the mill with her Goth stuff. I never knew from one day to the next what color her hair was going to be or if she was even going to have any at all. Harry kept telling me it was just clothes--a lot of help that was. I wanted a preppie kid!!
I went from the crinoline slips starched with sugar and wearing about 3 slips at the same time, to the sack dresses. In my old age, can't remember if we called the shorts Bermuda shorts, and would wear stripped socks with them up to my knees. If I start thinking some kids dress funny now, I should go back and look at what I was wearing in the fifties.
Black stretch pants, black turtleneck and black boots with wrap around sunglasses. I seem to remember gold cross earrings were also in fashion. That was the ladies' biker look at the time. Teased hair up and out to there. There was also the skin tight jeans and bare feet my best friend and I wore. Jeans for girls at the time ended at the ankle, were tapered and had a back zipper. We washed them everyday so they would stay tight. The bare feet upset our parents more than the clothes. We once went barefoot for an entire year only wearing shoes to school. Carried a little pair of folded up "slippers" in our bags for entering places that wouldn't allow bare feet.
Shortly thereafter it was flower child wear with the long dress, the beads and the bells. At its earliest my riding friends didn't like "hippies" so I did a lot of clothing changes from one side of the bay to the other. I also wore a pea coat I got from the Digger's Free Store one chilly San Francisco night. LOL
Then it was hip huggers, mini skirts and hot pants.
Disco wear! Hip hugger bell bottom jeans, Farrah Fawcett hair, sundresses with wedges, lots of gold jewelry. I wasn't allowed to wear halter tops, but I would sneak them out of the house and put them on later.
