I haven't had it in ages, but I always liked Olive Loaf.

I'm with flamey; however, the salt and fat is just not good for me anymore.

I'm just curious acey, but what made you decide to even take a taste of something called blood and tongue?

Not odd, but lean mortadella. Kind of like a spiced balogna with spots of ham in it, sliced tissue paper thin. It used to be you could only get mortadella certain times of the year, and our Italian population would line up outside the shops selling it. I never liked it because of the lumps of fat in it. Then I tried the lean version and really liked it.

I also like summer sausage and various dried salamis - I think a lot of people find those too strong.

1) I have a Mom who taught me to never be afraid to try new foods! (The best and worst that can happen ((outside of a food allergy)) is to learn you love it, like it, can take it or leave it, or don't care for it at all!) The more exposure to many tastes, the better your chances to find (and enjoy) a meal wherever you go, and you'll never starve! What wisdom, that?

2) My Grandma ate tongue regularly, (it is the sweetest, tenderest part of a cow IMHO), but she had never tried our modern day pizza as we know it!

3) OK, if Boar's Head makes it, somebody must like it!!! Why not me!!!???? Blood and Tongue, I'll admit, just has a less than mouth-watering name!!!!! (They shoulda called it "Bliss and Tender" to get more buyers!

Liverwurst, or braunschweiger, however it's spelled. Love it. Don't buy it more than 1-2 times a year.

Lebanon Bologna. It is a PA thing and I can't get it out here.

Only had it once TRAIL BOLOGNA when visiting Donna OH and we spent the day in Amish country at their flea market. Stopped on way back to Donna's and had it and quite tasty.

Hear it's an Ohio thing.

Not a cold cut,but my favorite summer sandwich is white bread(only way i eat white bread) with best foods mayo and big thick slices of a beef steak tomato with salt and pepper.

When we were kids and butchered a cow Mom would boil the tongue. After it had cooled she'd slice it and we'd have cold tongue sandwiches. It's very tender.
Although I do have to admit that it's kinda gross when it's laying there in the pot boiling.
I suppose nowdays it just ends up in the all beef hot dogs.

Another vote for liverwurst. With pickles and yellow mustard. Mmmm.

Years ago I used to get a beef cold cut that had a kind of aspic in it.....like beef roast with the jelled portions.. I have not seen it for years, but I did love that.

So strange I should run across this thread, because I was hungry, and am sitting here eating Pickle and Pimento loaf.

I love cold pastrami sandwiches. They are so good. I try the jenny o kind every now and again, but I like it from the deli.

I don't eat it on sandwiches, but I love liverwurst. I like it with mayo, onion and bread & butter pickles. Sometimes on a cracker or a "sandwich" made with the pickles as "bread".

I would try the blood and tongue. I will try just about anything, as least once.

I love olive loaf and no one else here at this house will eat it so I seldom buy it. Another one is a regional thing, Nebraska Roll which is a glorified bologna but has a tangy flavor to it. I eat it in sandwiches and will just eat it by the slice.

Now growing up I lived pickle sandwiches, bread that was buttered and slices of homemade dill pickles in between the slices.

I bet you are thinking of another cold cut with a strange name...the beef and jelled stuff is probably called:

Head Cheese

(there's no cheese in it, though)

And, yup, I like that too! DH won't touch either one...too gross for him!!!

I no longer eat processed meats, doctors orders. I eat only turkey breast or roast beef.

Loved fried balogna, don't slit, let turn up into a cup. Put some potato salad in that cup and serve on a lettuce leaf with a tomato. Good eating.

I too like Olive loaf but haven't had it for years because no one else likes it. Could sardines be considered a cold cut? I like sardine or anchovie sandwiches. Or most other cooked smoked fish.

Olive or pickle loaf here. I just had a pickle loaf sandwich for lunch today!

I hardly ever buy processed meat and I had no idea they made olive loaf anymore. I used to like it so might give it try for old times sake.
