Have You Been Getting Food Ready For Father's Day?

I have been working on food for Father's Day. I baked 3 pies, cherry, black raspberry and an apple. I made deviled eggs, coleslaw, cucumber salad, and potato salad. I still have to make the veggie pizza. I may finish that up tomorrow and also make iced tea then. We will be going to Amber and Mike's for the cookout. Everyone will be bringing things to it so we should have a lot. We already have the burgers, hot dogs and smoked sausage for it. Is anyone else busy cooking away today?

I just made brownies.Will make a roasted corn salsa,asian salad and a summer blueberry torte tomorrow.Will grill steaks for dinner and not sure what else.Everything you are making sounds wonderful.

My son, his wife and their son, and baby on the way are coming out tomorrow for a cookout. We're doing steaks.

My dh made some of those sausage/cheese stuffed chili peppers this afternoon to put on the grill.

I did buy a cake though, does that count? lol. It's a Red Velvet. Yum.

Simple dinner, steak, salmon (men cook), roasted sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, grilled Asparagus, rolls and cake.

I got up this morning and raked the lawn and cleaned all of that up.It was still covered with twigs and pine cones from the winter. Then I spread some mulch. I also talked with every neighbor that went by. I was getting a little crazy from all the talking! Tonight I washed and broke up lettuce for a salad, baked the shortcake for dessert, washed a cut up the brussels sprouts to be roasted, cooked some bacon for the salad and chopped up the bread for pineapple casserole. I hope all of this makes things less hectic tomorrow. I also got out the good dishes and silver and the serving dishes. Oh yes, and put the tablecloth on the table. Thank heavens the house is clean because i had book club here on Thursday. Now I am going to put as much as possible in the dishwasher, turn it on and go to bed. I am beat.

I agree with JMT. Also food for thought.... If she originally agreed in an email to 6 pm and now states that won't work for her, how is that handled? I mean... Obviously either one of you can say, this doesn't work for me, I would like to go by the court order. I don't know... I'm just thinking here. We kind of had a situation like this a long time ago. BD could 'opt' to the expanded visitation but had to do it a the time the order was rendered. He didn't opt for it because she was little and he didn't think she should spend school nights with him since she was in kindergarten. All of a sudden one day, I get an email that states I'm opting for expanded visitation and will be picking dd up from school starting today on Thursday nights. I did go through the roof. We agreed it wasn't a good plan. The drive to her school in rush hour traffic on Friday mornings from his house would take almost an hour and a half. And what hurt me the most was that I didn't send her to school thinking she would be going home with him and not returning until Monday morning. We had never been apart for longer than 2 nights for the entire 6 years that she was alive. I went straight to the school picked her up and took her home. Called BD and left him a message saying I had her in my possession and that he could not opt to change his visitation so far in to it. It had to be done at the time of the order. He called the police. They came out. I showed them my papers, of course they said 'can't get involved' but they wanted to try to talk to him and get him to understand what the order says. Apparently SM was telling him it said one thing and he didn't even READ the order or understand it. Didn't even have it on him. That eventually was changed this year (4 years later) and he does have the expanded visitation but it had to be changed by the courts, not by him. He was slapped pretty hard on his little hand by the judge who apparently didn't appreciate a parent emailing and stating OH BY THE WAY... She told him, you agreed to this, now you want to change to this... Which is fine, but you do not have the power to change the order. You don't want me telling you when you will see your child, should not have gotten a divorce. (harsh but a true reality). As soon as we got divorced we had to accept that forever (until 18) that someone else would be deciding what is in the best interest of the child, since apparently getting divorced universally means, two parents who 'agreed' at one time can no longer agree on what they think is right or best. Isn't it funny how that happens. I'm really thinking if she wants to go back on her agreement, she is going to have to take him to court to change it. But since she seems stubborn and you each have a different interpretation of what the order means or says, court might be best. As far as the police, I learned from situations like this that calling the police is a huge no no to the courts. They can not do anything for you or her except protect you if you are in real danger. So don't do the same as her and call the cops. She refuses visitation or any of that, document it, gather enough info so you have enough to show she is no longer working with you but don't involve the police unless you are in real danger. One of the problems with involving the police to work out order disputes is that their involvement is not necessary and it is unnecessary stress on the child. I remember one time, they called the police and my daughter was hysterical. The police came in and asked what was going on. I was refusing to allow DD to go with then gf/now SM to take dd because it was not BDs weekend to have her. She 'stopped' by and thought she would surprise BD with a weekend with dd because he was missing her. Well I told her, it is not his weekend, I don't know you, I have not spoken to him, if he wants her he needs to call me. Not only that but the last time I had spoken to BD he told me they had broken up... I had not heard any different. It was just such a mess and SO embarrassing. There were three cop cars at my house and the neighbors were all outside. Omg what a mess... The only one that was truely effected was dd.

Lynn, how was Jurassic World? We thought about seeing it but my mother did not want to go and we didn't want to leave her home alone. Mtnrdredux, the peaches sound divine--- that's next on my list to make! Living in the peach state, we have marvelous peaches at our local farmers market and in our CSA shares. Now, about the casserole....it is good in a 1980s church potluck kind of way but not very good for you....the ingredients are chicken, broccoli, lemon juice mayonnaise, cream of chicken soup, curry, and breaded topping. I did my best with fresh broccoli, organic, free range chicken, healthy choice soup and homemade bread croutons, but did not even bother to total the calories in each serving. I did NOT want to know! Of course our darling future SIL loved it, so I can see it may make more regular appearances at the table in the future. Lyban, BBQ sounds great, and how nice your DD is taking over this celebration. I will be happy when and if our DD does the same :-) DLM, don't you wonder what we did before cellphones? I remember calling my parents on one fixed day of the week because I knew they would be home then and I could catch them on the phone. Dee, your typical "Dad" meal was my fall back position if I hadn't had time to make the casserole :-) Gsciencechick, it was miserably hot here as well, we stayed indoors most of the day. And that was one of the reasons I was glad not to be,grilling either.! Annie, sounds like you had a great day regardless, and Joanie, your DH is lucky to get two celebrations!

My father has been dead for many years and my son is biking across the country and talked to his dad last night. But the daughter had a nice spread in her fabulous new yard which looks like something from HGTV. We had snacks and she and I did a walk around her town while the boys, her dad , husband, and son watched alternately golf and the Phillies. Grandson brought his big TV out in the backyard. They had grilled chicken thighs, orzo salad which was so good and corn on the cob but the dessert was delicious and it now is my fav for celebrations. She got it on Pinterest and it was strawberry cream lasagna which was so good with just-picked strawberries. I had two servings. His gift was the Phillies game two weeks ago and she also gave him more tonight. We'll miss them. They're leaving for Iceland for two weeks.

I just got home from shopping for my daughter...today is her birthday...she is 42

We are celebrating her birthday tomorrow along with Father's Day...

Denny got a new grill and is putting it together now. So it will be ready to grill on tomorrow.

When I left to go shopping I intended to shop for food for tomorrow too...

When I got done shopping for Criss...I was pooped and headed straight home...forgetting all about the food...darn...now I have to go back.

But I'm resting these puppies I walk on first.

Son and his friend are coming over in the aft noon and daughter, her hubs are coming up from the cities. We'll sit around for the aft noon, yaking, then we'll all go out to eat for dinner in the evening. I did round up some things to snack on, a bowl of cashews, a snack mix, and I mixed up a salmon spread to put on some party rye, I'll have Arnold Palmers mixed up. Don't want to fill them up too much so they don't have appetites for the restaurant. Hubs is really looking forward to the visit. To all the Dads out there and those who still have Dads, Happy Fathers day to you all. Dottie

Son and DIL are coming in from Austin and I am cooking...I have two chickens we are going to roast and a tenderloin of beef. I am serving fresh corn and fresh green beans , sliced fresh tomatoes from my garden. Hot rolls and they are bringing mashed potatoes...

I made pico de gallo with my fresh tomatoes and bought some chips ...that's it...I don't like to have too much food and decided awhile back to put a stop to way too much food on a holiday...We are keeping it simple...I don't like to mess with a ton of food when everyone is bringing a bunch of food and I don't like to have to clean it up or store it afterward.

We haven't made any plans yet. Jammer is home this weekend. I may put some steaks and veggies on the grill tomorrow.

Nothing special. Made a rack of ribs yesterday along with a new recipe for coleslaw and a batch of potato salad.

I've been really ill the last 24 hours. Chills,fever,stomach and headache. I slept all day and just now managed to eat something. My niece is visiting the area from out of state. Tomorrow our whole family is meeting her and her new boyfriend for an early dinner. I'm just hoping I've knocked this thing out. I'm taking it really easy right now.

Hope you feel better wildchild. My SisIL had the same thing right before we got here but was able to make it for lunch today.

We went to a restaurant that had once been one of those huge old Georgia houses. The food was served family style, and today's menu was fried chicken, roast pork loin, green beans, lima beans, rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, little red potatoes in a cream sauce, corn on the cob and biscuits. Every time a bowl was epty they replaced with more. Think we devoured any calories. Everything tasted homemade and delicious! Now I need a nap!

We will be having a family reunion at DDs on July 3rd. Younger son is flying in from the East Coast, older son will have just arrived home from an 8 week tour of USA with his girlfriend, and hopefully my brother and sister and spouses will join us.

Last year when our youngest came home for a visit in June, we did a May birthdays party without gifts at DDs. My brother and 2 sons celebrate in May. Now our DD has moved our 3 1/2 year old grandson's birthday from December 25th to June 25th, but this year he will be visiting his other grandparents then. So we will do a big May and grandson birthday bash in early July.

I am, therefore, taking note of your menu plans. I think we will buy 12 Costco steaks and have SIL grill them, and then I will bake a zucchini cake iced with Philadelphia Cream Cheese icing, and make a vat of potato salad and some meaty baked beans too. My sister can make a salad, DD can buy some ice cream, and I will pick up some other snacks at Costco when we go such as nice berries or chips or cheese and crackers. My brother hosts his wife's family on the 4th in their backyard, and I want to spare her any cooking for our gathering the evening before theirs.
