red velvet cake question

Hi all! A friend at work asked me to make a red velvet cake for her anniversary. I cook all the time but have never made this before since I really don't know anyone who likes it.

My question is about the frosting. I have posted the recipe below that I found on Recipezaar. If I did the part that has to be cooked and cooled tomorrow morning and refrigerated that, then later in the afternoon did the rest of the mixing of the butter, sugar etc. and finished the frosting do you think that would work out all right? Thanks for any tips you wonderful cooks can give me!

FROSTING

3 tablespoons flour

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup butter (must be butter)

Add milk to flour slowly, avoiding lumps.

11Cook flour and milk until very thick, stirring constantly.

12Cool completely.

13Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy.

14Add to cooked mixture.

15Beat, high speed, until very fluffy.

16Looks and tastes like whipped cream.
