Bulldinkie, my prayers are going out for you and your husband. My husband had his first heart attack, that we knew of, in 1987 when he was 38. He was extremely athletic, got a lot of the right things for exercise, not overweight, never smoked, didn't drink, minimal fast food, low cholesteral, but blood pressure a little high and did everything they tell you to do to avoid heart attacks. He wound up having 5 by pass surgery but never really got back to normal. At that time we did start to follow a healthy heart diet. About 2004, he had another heart attack while we were laying the foundation for our house. Got him to the hospital and it lasted for three days. We never imagined a heart attack could last that long without killing you. The team of doctors from IU said there was nothing they could do for him and wouldn't put him on the transplant list, but his cardiologist at the VA wouldn't give up and did manage to get him on the heart transplant list. A year and a half later, he got his transplant. My DH changed his diet himself. He became a vegetarian while waiting for the transplant. We think it was the only way he made it while waiting. He cut out salt himself and now if anything has the salt in it, he can taste it and doesn't like it. He's eight years out from his transplant and everyone is surprised he made it past the first seven as a lot don't. He doesn't eat many sweets, his diet is extremely low in fat, but I do use olive oil occasionally and his salt intake is primarily what is natural in food, not what is added. He does eat salt on his eggs and potatoes, but a minimal amount. He's healthy and happy. His doctors think he's a miracle for many reasons. Don't give up and don't let him give up. You'll both benefit from the salt free diet and you'll not even miss it.

This happened to a friend of mine. Numbers altered and fictional name given. It took a very determined police officer about eight hours of detective work to find the lady. She was charged as it was more than an unintentional reversal of numbers. Hard when you are hurt and stressed but if at all possible ask to see the actual info yourself to verify the information. Sad that you can't trust the honesty of people under stressful situations especially when the other party is at fault. Hope you feel better soon.

Before you go critizing Jannie for her lack of responsibility for not planning ahead, try walking a mile in her shoes. See how you would feel with the poisons in your body that the kidneys automatically excrete. I don't know her circumstances but her husband may be handicapped, her daughter may not live near her....we don't know. How many neighbours would be up in the middle of the night and would be willing to shovel her out when she has to be at dialysis so early? Are there even neighbour's around her? Now how does one know in advance that there is going to be a snow storm so severe that you can't get out of your driveway because the snowplow has totally blocked you in? You may go to bed at night knowing it will snow during the night but it is anyone's guess how accurate weather forecasters are, how much snow there will be. Areas in the States that aren't used to snow have been bombarded with snow this year. Would Jannie even be well enough to shovel the snow feeling poorly needing dialysis? Where I live, police don't automatically come for rescue calls. You explain the circumstances to the 911 operator and they decide who is the best people to dispatch. If it is not an emergency you just call the police station/fire station which Jannie did. How was she to know in advance that the three taxi cabs she tried and the ambulette service wouldn't take her? She exhausted all of her options first. The police man could have been more help. If he wasn't called out on an emergency it wouldn't have killed him to offer some assistance. It would have been better helping Jannie, than spending time in a coffee shop or just sitting in his car waiting for a call. There are lots of times on a policeman's shift where they aren't doing anything. Yes policemen work hard, when they work, but they do have down times on their shifts as well. Since there are three taxi services where Jannie lives there would be a fair number of policemen as well. Jannie pays taxes and this was a one time emergency and not one that is a habit. Talking to the police chief at least sets a standard in case such a situation should arise with anyone in the future. It does not mean that it will go down on anyone's record. It would be interesting to know what was actually decided by the police chief, if a policy is now in place to help out in situations like this.

His dialysis unit shouldd have lots of info on diet, ours does they also should have a nutritionalist who tells you what to eat drink,no colas soda,you can have rootbear,clear sodas,not too many once in awhile oranges and stone fruit,rinse mashed potatoes before mashing to rid of phosphourus,not too many potatoes,beans,chocholate,sweets,we're allowed 3 bottles water daily but that also includes soups other fluids total 3 bottles,Call in ask to talk to her shell tell you all you need,also salty foods chips ham etc not good salt holds fluid.His treatment would go easier with less on.
