Thanks lukkiirish. I got a call from my dog's internist specialist. She was her Dr at an emergency hospital most of last year when she became ill with an autoimmune disease (she was bleeding out and her platelets were near zero). Anyway the internist is up to date with her recovery and her blood work results. She said that a tooth root abscess isn't really an elective surgery and it needs to be done. She is confident that anesthesia will not be a problem for her in regards to her health, age or previous illness last year. Her blood work has been very good and she said to get it done. I feel better hearing that from her (a little!). I haven't been able to find much of anything on dogs who opted not to get a tooth extraction after a abscess but like socks mentioned of her sisters dog having to be on antibiotics schedule... which I don't want to have to do as I know it can be hard on the body. So as of now, it looks like she will do the extraction. Still have time so I'll monitor how she is feeling. The estimate was between $2500-3100. It's weird though because the swelling hasn't returned and she seems fine. She hasn't been wanting to go on our usual long walks lately but that might be the heat. When you have a older dog, you worry about every little thing!!!

Ritaweeda, I would have more confidence in her opinion if she had actually checked my teeth thoroughly. She didn't, just a quick glance. My old dentist actually used instruments to check the integrity of my teeth and old fillings. She also is the one who would checked my gum health, not the hygienist. The new dentist also didn't tell me which teeth specifically where affected, just 7, and then told me I needed to go discuss it with her office manager regarding pricing to fix them. When I said how is that possible, I just went to the dentist a year and a half ago (I thought it was but turns out it was 2 1/2 years) she told me I had a lot of "dark cracks" that she would fix if it were her teeth. So is it staining from tea and coffee or decay? When I got in the office to discuss the pricing, I told the office manager I wanted a second opinion and asked for a list of which teeth were affected. There were 10, not 7. Then I'm thinking not only are they trying to scam me but my insurance company too. My old dentist would have told me exactly which tooth/teeth had a problem and told me my options. I have an appointment early Monday morning with my old dentist so we will see. I also decided not to go back into the other dentists office for my xrays. I'm angry, and these days I don't always hold my tongue like I did when I was younger.

Woke up with tooth throbbing. Took asprisn but didn't help. Bad infection caused by bridge. In a lot of pain. Getting prescription filled for an antibiotic and ibuprofen 800 mg. Also have to get a new bridge because this old one is causing the problems. SamKaren Your resident dj

I went to the dermatologist last week (which is why I had to return to L.A.) for a melanoma follow-up. This was a six month follow-up, and I was supposed to go in for a three month follow-up, but I was stranded in Cathedral City. My doctor agreed that it was okay that I waited the six months, but he told me to come back in three months. He did have to freeze something on my scalp, and it seems like he always finds something, and so this is an issue I have to deal with on a regular basis. The melanoma I had removed six months ago resulted in a number of stitches on my back, but it healed very well. I avoided the sun when I was a child and never sun-bathed until I was in my 20s in San Francisco, and then only for short periods of time, as I got bored very easily. However, I did go to Mexico every winter from 1975 until 1984 while I lived in San Francisco (and spent one to two months there - generally Jan - Feb) to avoid the cold damp winters of SF and the resulting sinus infections that I was prone to there. While I avoided sinus infections by going to Mexico for the winters, I may have exposed myself to too much sun, although I did wear sunscreen. I don't think sunscreen in the 1970s was strong enough, however, and I did not want to wear it when I went snorkeling in Cozumel. I am still putting off going to the dentist, as I think I am doing a decent enough job of cleaning my own teeth, and I do not think it is worth the risk. I will go back once I am able to get a Covid vaccination. My temperature, as taken at the dermatologist's office, was 97.1°, and so I am like Maifleur in that I may have a fever when my temperature is 98.6°, but I've noticed that my temperature varies throughout the day and is higher after I've been in the spa.
