So what's smelling good in your kitchen, today?

Mine WILL be shortly.

Making sour cream banana bread for DS, to munch on this coming week, while his DW and crew are at the beach.

If I get ambitious might make him blondies, as well.

Just sniffing to see what yours is or will be smelling like!

Baked beans that I'm taking to my brother's for a cookout in a few hours. I made the grape salad last night - never had it before but everyone whose had it raves over it so we'll see how my family likes it.

It's HOT here!!

Can you smell that left-over pizza? I made it a few days ago, so tonight it's working it's way back to the table.

Thanks for the warm welcome! There are only about 4,500 people that live here, I like hearing from people out in the "real world." =-) I grew up in Chicago & have never had luck growing a garden, but the conditions here are much better so I hope I left my brown thumb back in the states. Blue ocean, yes indeed. Lots of tropical plants. Lots of tourists on vacation too. I'm currently working in a shop & we never get a lot of traffic in here. I would have shared a photo of the ocean, but haven't been to it yet today, so here's a photo of the bananas that are growing in the yard of the house we're renting. I hope they ripen soon! We do have a kitty, well... now I guess I have to say we "share" a kitty. A little tabby started coming around & I started feeding it, and he started coming in the house, and I started buying him toys & now he stays a lot of the time. I thought he was a stray (there are many here), but we had dinner with the neighbors the other night & they were "missing" a kitty, and yup - that's the one. We all laughed. I guess he likes the food I serve better. So now we get him in the evenings, but make sure he's out during the day to visit his old folks.

Oh, its the ROSES! A friend from church (we live down one black on the same street) was walking towards our house to get his car after service and he said he could smell them (we currently have 112)half way down the street well before you even see a glimpse of the house. Here is a very recent pic of the front yard you see coming down the street. This pic was taken standing in the next door neighbor's driveway. Many of the climbing roses here are planted along with honeysuckle, I LOVE the smell, though DH says the best way to trim them would be to get a machete... I just got 6 little heliotrope plants for the children's Secret Garden, to plant around a stone birdbath. I love the honey fragrance! Spring is my favorite smell right now - I'll send snow, lots of it, to anyone missing that smell. But honestly, I do love the smell when it's crispy outside and the sun is beating down hard. Nothing like it to lift the spirit! I missed it in the UK - big time. Can't believe I just said that - getting salt/sand ready for the overnight ice and weekend snow storm....sigh.

This is a sweet and tangy sauce.Good on any kind of meat.Can be used as a basting sauce or dipping sauce.My Daddy was a short order cook most of his life and this is his recipe. Lillie's Barbecue Sauce 1 large can tomato sauce(28 oz)I used crushed tomatoes today because I didn't have sauce.First time I've ever strayed from the original recipe but it worked just fine. 1/2 can honey (Use the tomato sauce can) 2 tsp. garlic powder 2 tsp. white pepper (Black pepper will work too.You just have to adjust the amount to your own taste.) 3 Tbsp. Frenches prepared mustard 4 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 4 tsp. liquid smoke 2 Tbsp. prepared horseradish.Not the creamy kind.Just plain horseradish in a jar. Salt to taste.I never salt mine. 1 stick of butter (Real butter,not margarine or any of that funky stuff.LOL) Mix all ingredients together in a large pan except for the butter.Bring to a boil over medium heat and add the butter.Stir until melted then turn burner down and simmer until the sauce thickens.Stir occasionally and scrape down the sides of the pan with a wooden spoon or spatula.I usually cook mine about 30 minutes.

My eating was at Chipolte's Mexican Grill with a free HUGE steak burrito.

BTW I'm still getting requests for the grape salad I made for a luncheon last week. Soooo good.

My house smells like pork steaks... I had hoped DH would be home in time to BBQ them.. but he won't so they are cooking in the oven.

My Dad is getting a super Father's Day - he has about 20 people (including my DH, DB and DN's) all sandbagging his house today. Sandy wouldn't keep all that water in Iowa.. so it's headed to Missouri! Why the heck my parents still live in a flood plain is beyond me. My Dad is so stubborn.

Mine smells like sourdough bread made from sourdough starter in the frig. I make it about 3 times a week, 2 loaves at a time. There is always someone waiting for one when it's finished.

Nothing. Yesterday I made a bunch of chicken strips for the kids which there was enough leftovers for tonight, until Alex moved the plate and the next time I opened the fridge they fell out into the floor. Luther ate them all. I shouldn't have let him eat all of them, though. I think it upset his stomach. He went out a few times this morning and ate some grass.

Kathy--don't you remember the 5 second rule. You should've scooped those chicken strips up! Okay, now I know nobody will eat at my house. I wouldn't to it if it was company, but I think it's okay to swap family germs.

Well..probably sweat now, we've been working in the yard..LOL I made breakfast this morning, which was home grown sausage, organic eggs, some leftover roasted red potatoes, homemade english muffins for hubby and a half an avocado for me.

Not sure about dinner. I boiled a dozen eggs this morning too. So I know we'll have deviled eggs...and??????

I am making Bulgogie (Korean Barbeque) and it smells wonderful. To go along with it I have steamed rice grilled asparagus and chocolate mousse for dessert.

I invited a friend, Ken, over for dinner. He is 75 and his wife just died in April. They would have been married 50 years next month. He is such a sweety and fun to be around. His kids are in Colorado and Washington state.

Ours smells like....fresh greenbeans out of the garden, new potatoes, also out of the garden,cooked with streak o lean and pig tail, also fried squash, yeah they are out of the garden too,and fried cornbread.

Had some overripe bananas to use up so I made a cake. My shortening was all yucky (old) but I had some unopened peanut butter flavor shortening, so I used it. I figure bananas and pb ought to be good together. It's in the oven now - we'll see.
