What Are You Doing Today?

My day started going to several rummage sales with Amber and the dogs. Found some nice things. We have decided to have a rummage sale soon, so I started pricing some things. Then Cheryl came and I rode into town with her and her new puppy. She picked me up 4 pounds of fresh green beans from the farmer's market and we each got a pulled pork sandwich from there. Then she had to go to the grocery to get bacon for her beans. I finally got home and cleaned all my green beans and have them slowly cooking. I like a tender bean, nothing crunchy. I like them better the next day, so will probably have them for tomorrow. I boiled and peeled a dozen eggs to fix someway later. I also emptied the dishwasher and added more to it. Later today, Cheryl and Kevin plan to come out and pick black raspberries and then I will wash and bag and freeze them. So for now I am taking a break. Izzi has already beat me to the nap! What is everyone else doing?

Had a egg olive sandwich and went shopping for an international Converter set.

Found one at Bed Bath and Beyond with 20% off.

Trying to pick up kids (grandkids? between storms. Rain/thunder and temp 63. Just the usual spring storms. Big Thresherman's show, large family reunion etc. but people do adjust. Oh yes, before weather changed, went to yard sale and bought 2 white plastic chairs for 3.00. Need to be cleaned up, but after rain will do that.

Yesterday: DH realized his drivers license was missing, freaking out commenced. :0) We drove to two commercial buildings he'd had to get a security badge to enter. Being Saturday, people manning the front desk were off, no one to ask if they'd found his license, me driving...him...going crazy. lol He finally found it at home, in the scanner. Ran errands. Rented a movie(The Girl On The Train) @ the library. Went to REI, then Dicks Sporting Goods & purchased Yeti mugs w/ handles. REI was out of black ones & handles. Grocery shopped. Purchased rib-eye steaks. Grilled those for dinner, before the snow storm hit. Answered a CL ad, in a nearby town 37 minutes one way, for a FREE wrought iron gate. Had to use GPS to find it, one of those up-in-the-woods custom housing developments. He said he wouldn't hold it & would take the ad down when gone. Got there, no gate, ad was down, went home. Checked my email, he said "where are you?" Drove ALL the way back, he WAS HOLDING IT FOR US....really nice guy! Gate is perfect! It's an unusual size...it's six feet tall, four feet wide.

I've been at a Hearing Loss convention since Wednesday evening. Most of it wasn't very relevant to my lifestyle. I was hoping for a lot more focus on technological advances today. Not stuff that is already old hat to me. Not people trying to sell their procduct There was on speaker that was great though. The only one who didn't bore me to wanting to do a face plant into my water. I had a two hour trail ride booked for Sat. I got a good horse. But the wrangler was an idiot (IMO). No horsemanship. A wanna be cowboy without the ethics. Gave advice contrary to the the thing I do know. Since I was at the back I rode my way. My horse appreciated it. I told them ahead of time I rode with mostly English tack. Guess who was giving the reining horse? LOL At the end I tipped him as is the norm and casually mentioned that telling people to do a certain action was bad for a horse's back. I gave him an alternative to consider. He said that his way was the way the real cowboys did it and I should watch some old westerns and I would see. ROTFLOMAO I just smiled and thanked him for the ride. I didn't care much for the way he slapped his horse around to move it on the ground also. It wasn't outright abuse but it was super crappy horsemanship. Won't go back there. I had the banquet that night and was exhausted. Of all the places to hold this thing they chose an area that goes into triple digits this time of year. Plus it a tourist area that has only about a day or at most 2 days of things to see. Parking is outrageous. Their hotel charged 35 dollars a day. I stayed elsewhere and parked in the same lot for 10 dollars. Friday and yesterday the lot was full so I had to park at the other end of this tourist hellhole and walk the length back and forth. I'm glad to be home. Sleep in my own bed and ride tomorrow.

It was relatively "warm" (high 40's) yesterday and today. Took 2 mile walks both days. I finished cleaning up the flower gardens - I'd waited until the birds had picked the coneflowers and beebalm clean - and then repotted and root pruned nearly all of my potted fruit trees; still have 2 to do, but I ran out of soil. Managed to lose my pruners, too, wondering if I dropped them into a pot before replacing the tree. Sold my indoor bike trainer which I had never ever set up. I had imagined using it while I watched a movie or even a bike race on TV, but I much prefer the elliptical for indoors, and walking or jogging outside weather permitting best of all. Plus my DD left her small lifecycle also when she moved out. I am hoping that I remembered what I paid for it correctly - I think I sold it for the same price. As long as I never find the receipt I will be content! Last thing today was hanging most of the Christmas lights and set up an artificial tree and put lights on it, on the front porch. I didn't get that all finished - I think I need another strand of lights on it, and didn't get the few glittery ornaments on it. I'll do that tomorrow if it is not raining hard. I'll put up the hanging stars on the porch and in the windows closer to the holiday.

Grandson and girlfriend came over and trimmed my hideous tree (another long story that I'm repressing...oh well...). They then set the table for my Monday night family dinner, and then Henry polished the last few pieces of silver that my yard man ran out of time to do. Put the tureen for the centerpiece in my car. I took that to the florist. So, everything is almost ready for Monday night. I need to put the small things that are on trays (to make dusting easier for cleaner) back on the tables, and then I'm ready. Smartest thing I ever did was to hire someone to cook and serve the meal. It's something I've had before that she does (braised short ribs - fabulous!) and know it's good. It will not be a "fancy" meal - just using placemats and all but the sterling flatware and goblets can go in the dishwasher once a year (Wedgwood "Wild Strawberry"). The table still looks festive and pretty and it will be easy and not anywhere nearly as expensive as my usual party. Just a nice family mean. No coats and ties required but I"m hoping for a sweater and not a hoody... We will see..

I went out early (7:15) to weed the bed around one of the crepe myrtles. It was looking pretty awful. Then I noticed the front bed around the oak tree needed weeding and then some more weeds on the side of the house. I should've stayed in bed!!!

Washed the sheets and towels and got them put back on the bed/in the bath. Emptied the wastebaskets in the baths. I'm shamed to admit they couldn't have held another thing. I need to mop my kitchen floor and the family room could use cleaning, but that's another day's project.

We got the nicest rain this morning. Nice and gentle but steady. No flashing and booming. We got quite a bit and I sure am grateful. Everyone's grass looks so bright green. And as a bonus it was cooler today.

After sitting around for a few hours on the computer this morning, Alex and I went to the early showing of "Up". We both really liked it.

Now I have to clean my house. Doing laundry. Charged my Mobal phone to use on vacation. Lauren's spending the night with her best friend. I don't know what she's going to do when she can't talk to her every single day. LOL!

Our lab apparently got real bored. She tore her dog bed into pieces and scattered the cedar all over the family room while we were sleeping.
Five fun filled hours later I am still finding peices of it.

I'm sitting back and not doing much today. A friend called last night on his way to town and asked if I wanted to go to a parade in our home town. His daughter was going to be in the parade. So sure, I met him and we watched the parade, pitiful as it was! LOL After we went to his mother's house, had some burgers and a few drinks and visited for a while. Went out to head home and it was so nice out we just sat there a while and continued chewing the fat. When I got home it had cooled even more and was so pleasant I hated to go inside. Then the rain moved in and the humidity went back up. Slept a few hours and was up early but too wet out to mow. So I've relaxed and snoozed a bit and now one of the cats jumped up and is snoozing next to me looking for a bit of attention. Turned on Prairie Home Companion and will listen to that, then Green Cheese, catch up on some forums, email and probably nuke a hot dog or two. Exciting life eh?

we have a sat routine that starts off with breakfast out, sam's club, then home... did my laundry...can't work outside as we've a vacant lot next door and heavy with poison ivy...dh, who seems to be immune to it did the yard work...he bbq'd brats and baby-sized peppers...so good!

now i'm checking in for a last look before heading upstairs, and tv watching...we bought a game to download on the lap-top (that's upstairs, too)...oh forgot! the fresh strawberries...have to chop them over sugar free ice cream for dessert...they are the best i've had in a long time...hardly any sweetner needed...

We just got back from a graduation party which was held outdoors the hottest day we've had this year (the car gauge said it was 109). Everybody was sweating, no trees nearby but we had a small pavillion.

Supposed to be in the 80's tomorrow. That's gonna feel cool. lol

We went to Midlothian, Tx. to take DD#2 and her family out to lunch. Her BD is tomorrow and I carried her a hanging basket and $100. It's easy when they want money!! I'm not a good gifter--I never can think of anything good. We stayed a couple hours and I played with the twins (21 mos.) and the 4 1/2 year old. DH went with her DH to an auction. In this heat? I don't think so!!
