Love salmon!!! I like to go to Pike's Place Market and buy it fresh off the boat. I also love Halibut, but I'm not sure where most of the fresh halibut comes from around here.

Halibut! I just love it, salmon is a close 2nd. I usually get halibut when I go out to a good restaurant.

Our walmarts in Canada (at least the ones I frequent in our city) have stopped selling pet fish. Probably just as well as they seem to have issues with fish mortality and it was probably more of a hassle for them.

Local source for variety of Hosta, do you have a favorite?

HI Diane, thank you. I really had no idea of the type of hosta available, like you mention, the local selection isn't much, so I wasn't really impressed with hosta. Then I started seeing some of the ones you see listed in catalogs, but in person and they are really gorgeous. I am pretty new to hosta, the few that I have aren't size enough to start dividing to share yet, other than a few typical undualatas. I recently placed an order from Naylor Creek, but there are so many, I'd still like to buy locally. I did get a few from Adam's in Newburgh..I had gotten my Aphrodite there three years ago, and my Guacamole, and also my Francee. Fire and Ice was a real treat to find there. So far, that is the only place I have seen any variety. I think I got Brim Cup at Devitts a few years back. I may try Matterhorn later in the week. I don't think I am going to pay big bucks though. I'll still look, and if I find a must have at a reasonable price, fine, but if not, it will give me a chance to see some of them 'in person'. Most times a photo or catalog just does not do a plant justice. It is easy to overlook one in a catalog, that has happened a few times to me. I recently saw on the hosta forum someone mentioned Hallson Gardens as a reliable source. Now you've confirmed it too. I'll have to check out their website. Thank you for the weblink above about HVX...that is really a scary thing in the back of my mind. I see from your site, you REALLY like Hosta. How have you faired with this virus? I see you have an extensive and impressive collection. Very nice, I bet they are just beautiful. Any chance you can post a photo or so of your hosta gardens. I don't think I've ever seen that many hosta even listed in a catalog..lol. Are deer or groundhogs a factor where you are? One of the things that concern me as I start my journey of hosta exploration and gathering, is that the deer will come along and make a feast of that many in one location. I am planning a new shade garden that will be 50 to 75 feet by 15 or so feet with a sitting area, so I have many to gather. We have a deer run through here, but knock on hickory...the spray I use has helped so far this season. Of all my gardens I have only lost the tops off my geranium Splish Splash and a few leaves from an Oreintal Lily stem. That's it. You never know when they will decide to eat it anyway, or a rain will come and I do not get to spray though. Thank you again for the reminder that some places put hosta on sale this time of year, I'll have to make the rounds again. JoAnn

Another Oklahoman here. Familiar with Porter peaches, though I grow my own. In Bartlesville there's a little restaurant where people love to eat. It's nothing fancy. Last time I was there, the surfaces of the tables were worn looking and mine even had a hole in it. But people wait in line at noon to eat. What do they order? The Hot Hamburger. It's a hamburger, what can I say? The difference in the dish is that it comes with a huge plate of french-fries covered in brown gravy. Now, I never saw the charm of this dish because I don't like gravy on my fries. In Tulsa, there's a little cafe-style restaurant called "Claud's" that was written up several times in the local newspaper as making the "best burger in Tulsa". Claud is now deceased and his wife Wilma is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. But some of the kids run the place, and use the same methods and recipes. The favorite dish from there is an onion hamburger. They grind their own beef, pat it out thin, smear one patty with chopped onion and top with another patty. Throw it on the grill and fry it up. The grill is where you can watch, if you want. The NE section of Oklahoma is known for beef, peaches, pecans, all what David said (lakeguy). We have a lot of lakes and boy do I love that crappie! Biscuits and what "northerners" call "cream gravy" is standard breakfast fare in every restaurant. You also cannot have a meal that includes any kind of fried meat unless you also have gravy and mashed potatoes. Chicken fried steak is big here, though I don't really care for it. We like sour cream on lots of things. And we put cheese in and on almost everything. Yes, I too remember getting Frito chili pie at the concession stands during ballgames. Ever since, whenever I make chili I always want Fritos in mine instead of crackers. Does anybody remember the potato bars that were so popular in the '80's? We had a restaurant downtown that catered to the office workers there. Huge baked potato with your choice of all sorts of toppings. My favorite was bacon, sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheddar. Now we have a Starbuck's. I notice lots of cars in the parking lot.

What are your favorite kinds of fish

One fish I will absolutely not eat is tilapia. I don't like farm raised fish and I don't like fish from Asia. That said, I don't like fishy fish, or salmon or tuna or swordfish. I will eat freshwater catfish....if it has been fileted properly. There in an oily layer under the skin, and that ruins the taste of it. I like red snapper and flounder. Fresh water fish like bass and crappie. The only fish I will ever buy is sometimes farm raised (USA) catfish. We have a friend who has a snapper boat and we get red snapper from him. Flounder from our boat, and any other fish we eat are fish that my husband catches. I like shrimp and crab....eat those off of our boat. I like oysters and my husband will either open them or buy them from someone he knows who has an oyster house and can get them very fresh. Our boat has an oyster license but he doesn't oyster with it.

FRESH just-out-of-the-water cod fillets, pan-fried -- YUM!!

I also like fresh halibut. One of the restaurants here in town serves fabulous halibut. Last year, as one of their specials, they had "Red, White and Blue Halibut" - pan-fried halibut with a "white" wine sauce made with roasted "red" peppers and "blue" cheese. It was absolutely delicious!

Catfish is pretty popular here and I enjoy it, but I also enjoy the other fish mentioned. Love perch, halibut, flounder, salmon, cod...learned to love seafood growing up in California.

Bass, freshly caught out of our farm pond, sauteed in a little butter and herbes de Provence. When, and IF, we can get salmon, we love that too, especially with cornbread stuffing with tarragon.

I love fresh water fish best...crappie, bass, perch, and catfish...if they are fileted right. Salt water fish, I like red snapper and flounder. I love pan fried perch. Haven't had any in years tho. I could fish...I live right on a bayou, but I feed the fish...and won't let anyone catch them here. :)

Trout or bass. Not for ME, though! I like them because Woody has to spend time catching them! That means I get more home-alone time. lol I don't eat fish. Period.

Walleye, Just had some caught by my nephew. When we were discussing misc fish he said perch, if can get a big enough one to bother, with taste the same as walleye, they are "related" and have the same white meat and same texture. Also love trout, don't get to have that much.

I need a trip to MN for some walleye. It's my favorite and it's best in MN. Would love some salmon from the Pacific NW--unbelieveable! In the mountains it's trout--smoked or caught fresh and cooked that night.

Here in FL it's Key West grunt (it has another name that I can't remember) or grouper, if it's real grouper and not some fake stuff.

Love cod, blue gill and tilapia, too. I like fish a lot!!
