Can you help me find an author?

How stupid can you be? I've read two books now by the same author and loved both of them, but I'll be danged if I can remember his name or the title of either of the books. They are mysteries, set in France (though the author is English), the main character is a policeman in southern France, in his 40's I think, and has a ponytail (this is mentioned several times in both books as an identifier). H He is also a former rugby player, this is also mentioned in the books as a way people recognize him. He is quite a gourmand.

Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance.

These don't sound familiar to me at all. But I did find a page online that mentions mysteries set in France. Might this help?

Well, you can't go wrong with Henredon vintage furniture. (It was one of the two brands my mother would consider purchasing...the other Kittinger). I see you have one arm chair, typically considered the "host" chair. I searched the internet for like chairs, but came up empty handed...lots of Kittenger, but no luck on Heritage. So, my suggestion would be to keep the six chairs at the table. For two extras, consider upholstered chairs, about the same size, that can be situated in the corners of the dining room until needed. What might be a nice addition is to use the same fabric of the chairs to recover the seat pads on the six. This concept:

I've found it! I just remembered the title of one of the books! Another one of those times that when you try to remember you just can't, but when you stop thinking about it, it pops into your head. We just got back from walking our greyhounds and it went 'plip', right there. Jacquot and the Fifteen, by Martin O'Brien was one of the two books I read and enjoyed. Thanks people! I know that posting here also helped jog my memory.

Thanks Ghoghunter! It is not the series you mentioned above....Bruno, Chief of Police, but did I miss a post earlier about Jacquot? Have you read any of them?

My bad! I saw the first name Martin and thought it was the same author! Actually they both sound good. I may have to try them both!!!
