I can empathize with your wish to save the tree, but I would question whether it in fact should be saved, or even can be saved. It is too close to the road, and even if you could make it thrive, when it's bigger it will likely start to be hit by passing trucks, and the city might send out their mandatory tree hit squad to trim it back, which likely will be a recurring problem. I can't tell quite what type of tree it is, but I'd bet it's having trouble either due to dirty water from the road (salt and grime) or too much heat hurting the roots, from the surrounding pavement in the Summer. I might be a heretic, but not every tree should be kept. Many were planted in the wrong place, and in the wrong environment, and that's not your fault. How about planting two nice trees in nice places in your yard instead? Just my thoughts... Best of luck.

i have a sense of humor.. apparently you dont.. i did not chew your head off.. as you say ... i read what you said.. i have bought houses.. i have tried to save a buck by ID'ing what is there.. and i have wasted a lot of time and effort .. trying to 'save' ... what should otherwise be killed ... its a weed tree.. probably repeatedly run over by the drunk next door .. while attempting to park near the curb.. as most plants in such circumstances.. and able to live thru that torture.. it is most likely an invasive.. or nearly so .. and the presumption is.. that it would be a waste of effort to move it .. or save it ... and if one is living on the edge of the road.. i am going to guess that you will be finding others on the rest of the lot.. and if its anything link the siberian elm my neighbor has.. i am killing upwards of two to 300 seedlings per year ... horrible trees that shed large branches in wind and ice storms.. and drop more seeds than maples .... just a total nightmare of a tree IMHO ... i do not waste my time HELPING PEOPLE.. to only be insulted by peeps who complain about free advice ... good day.. and good bye ken

Most wholesalers won't sell to individual accounts for many reasons, one of them being loyalty to the customers they supply on the wholesale level because it turns them into competitors. Secondly, it's the onsie/twosie issue. Wholesale accounts are usually non-taxable since they are for resale or for agricultural purposes. If you have a large number of accounts that are not subjected to sales taxes, making a few onsie/twosie retail sales isn't worth the acrobatics of what it takes to remit the taxes, so they don't do the sale. Your best bet is if you deal with a reputable independent local nursery and ask them when they do their orders to check their suppliers for that particular tree and if they don't have minimums on it order it for you. Do it early and I mean early if you want it for next spring. My orders were always in by August the year prior and you'd already be too late. I once succumbed to planting a novelty Bradford. I was blessed to have the power company come by in their crews and take it out before it ever reached maturity. Their crew chief was really savvy last year and when I mentioned the word Bradford, and how close it was to the lines he obliged. We're dealing with the seedlings from it now and having round-up parties. I don't know if I'd enable you to find one or not. ;-)
