Geez, dotmom, your house sounds as boring as my Mom's house. All new, supposedly comfy. Trust me, it ain't so.

I have shabby chic/rustic and I CAN easily afford the new stuff. Yep, got chipped paint on my breakfast table with a few ciggie burns where my Grandpa fell asleep. I have two pieces that are made from old barn wood from my other Grandpas homestead.

When I first moved here, the neighbors came over, one by one, as the word was spread about my "stuff". I've had two bosses who hired me to "do" their house (imagine a blank check), one in Aspen - one in a new tract home (that was difficult).

Just sayin'....HGTV ain't got nothin' on me. I like their ideas but it seldom works for me cuz there is no history there. What story do you tell about a door painted black on two saw horses?

I'd love to have Candace Olsen do my house. She usually uses light, soft colors, often watery tones, which I love. She also does an amazing job pulling together half a dozen fabrics into a cohesive style. I also see her using generic stuff from Ikea in lots of rooms, alongside interesting custom pieces.

The ONLY interior decorator who has a tv show I would allow to touch my house is Debbie Travis. I would love it if she did my kitchen. She's fantastic. She listens to the home owners and while she may put a twist on things, I don't think she's ever disapointed a home owner. Even when she put neon green in an apartment against the home owners wishes. He thought his wife would hate it. But she covered the green (the wall was also a wall of windows), with floor to ceiling, wall to wall white sheer curtains. It was stunning. The wife loved it.

My style is French Country, rustic, casual and welcoming. I knew that, I just did not know it was called French Country.

Having taken the test, my style is Classic Elegance. Interestingly enough, while I didn't like any choices they gave, when I did pick the lesser of all the evils according to my tastes, the final style came out Classic Elegance....Traditional with a twist and I would say that pretty accurately sums up what I like. I don't watch HGTV anymore but I use to watch. Mostly I didn't like anything any of the designers did except for Debbie Travis.

I love the Candice Olson and Sarah Richardson style.

Mine is rustic charm. It had better be because I don't own a new piece of furniture except for upholstered pieces. Everything including the beds is from the 1800's.

Surprisingly, I think it's pretty close:

The reason I say surprisingly, is that for many (probably most) of the questions, none of the pictures was what I would like the very most. So, I picked what was closest and it came out pretty much my style.

"Country Rustic"; but I can't say I agree. I am not COUNTRY, not fussy,flowery,ruffly. I am modern, but not "CONTEMPORARY" those always read cold to me. Modern, warm, comfortable,liveable,usable, real. As I went through the choices I wasn't finding any that really suited me to a T. I was picking the closest of the lot but none of them made me say, "YES I want that room". The outside picture of the big front porch was the only choice I had that was spot on, but I do not have that and never will.
I guess I am an individual not in a box and I am good with that! I doubt I could stand any of the designers re-doing my home. I often think when I see the end results..how long would it take for me to change this or that. I LOVE Candice's, Sarah's, David's rooms, but none of them seem like real people could live there. They are special occasion rooms, not real life rooms. My house definitely says people live here!!

I haven't taken the test. Everything in my house is mis-matched. Except the dining room table and chairs are a set. Also our bedroom furniture is a set, given by my inlaws to hubby and hios first wife as a wedding gift. ep, I'm the second, or "trophy" wife. Not sure what my own style is. My kitchen is light oak, very 1980's dated but I love it's lightness. I was insulted when my MIL gave me two decorating books "Shabby Chic" and "Use What You Have Decorating." She was full of insults. She'd tell people "My daughter in law doesn't like to cook or clean". Yet when she visited I'd clean and cook for days beforehand.

This describes me well - I was surprised it was so accurate because for many of the choices I really didn't like any of them. Some I picked because I liked the view out the window - not so much what was in the room!

Hmm ~~ I didn't like any of those pictures so much. I prefer an Asian style and have a lot of stuff in my living room. I'm still looking to change this room in here where my TV and computer are.

So far the two HGTV'd they've showed are not what I would want! David's was just way over the top and Sabrina Soto from Get it Sold was OK but I wasn't crazy about it. I generally like what she does.

Is this Emily that won the last Design Star you are tallking about? She has her own show, . She's kind of over the top for me, too. Where does she get the budget for all that stuff she does? She paints, wallpapers wall, reupholsters furniture and does the whole room in one of the couples' style and then redoes in all over again in a combo of their styles. At first she used to do it in the other one's style and then redo it but lately she has cut back on that. Usually just too much sstuff for my taste.

Roco0101, sorry my Apt is just as I like it. Yes my furnishings are all new, but there is no matchy matchy. I bought what appealed to me. I grew up rather poor in not so nice living conditions, so I guess I am a product of that. I do love that your furnishings have a personal history.

Says my style is eclectic. I'll go with that but leaning toward mid century modern and asian. Would love either Vern Yip or old style David Bromstad do something in my home.
Of course David could just stand there and I would be happy! ;-)
