Oh, that's definitely a good grin. He looks happy and content. Don't put too much in what the "books" say, as you can be finding things that don't exist!! He's a darling little boy.

He's beautiful, and YES - that is a SMILE!!! In a few days he will be laughing. It's obvious he's doing well - growing like a weed!!

He is a BEAUTIFUL baby! What gorgeous pictures. I would say yes he is definitely smiling, more with his eyes, but he does have a bit of a grin going. He has very alert, sparkly eyes. Just beautiful.

Maybe he'll grow up to be one of those intelligent, observant kids. You know the ones that watch everyone and take everything in. You think they aren't paying attention but they are absorbing everything.

Enjoy that little man, they really do grow and change so fast.

I know I told you this a few weeks ago, but our 2nd grandson was just like Brody, and he's a very happy and healthy 2 year old. I think Brody is doing just fine. He's adorable.

I have a friend who got pregnant in her fourties...Unplanned.
He still wasn't talking when he was 4....She was so worried about him...He was fine...and a bright boy...I think he was spending all his time soaking up all that was around him. When he started talking it was in sentences.

We all worry...It's part of a mom,grandma thing..It's our job.

I worried about grandson Bradley so much...and he's fine.

That's a beautiful smile and I think you might be worried without reason. Think of it this way. Brody was born 10 weeks ago - 3 weeks early. He had to make up for those 3 weeks so he really should just be 7 weeks old. Right on schedule. Right?

Bearcat-All babies develop at different speeds.Brody was a little early so he is catching up.Also,every baby has a different personality.Brody has his own and he just may not be a "smiler".Don't worry about it so much.Just let him progress at his own speed and enjoy him and his own special personality! I had to come back to say again that our Austin was just like this...happy but hard to get a smile out of. He really didn't show what I would consider big smiles until he was about 3 months old. He was so serious all the time..seem to be studying everything. My son was worried too, but I told him the same thing...every baby is different and he was alert and seemed fine. Now he is a ball of energy with the biggest smiles at a year old. Soon you'll hear his little giggles and be so grateful for that sound. Brody will be just fine...he looks so alert and happy...great pictures by the way!!

Aww, he is adorable!! I wouldn't worry about his social development, his eyes are just as alert as any other baby's. He's got a beautiful little smile. :-)

Yep, that definitely is a smile. I visited your family website and from what I can see, Brody looks very alert. I know it's so hard not to worry when they don't follow the developmental checklist, but there should also be a disclaimer that says not all babies will reach each milestone at the same time. I teach preschoolers and we make sure that the parents understand that even though there are milestones, children will reach them at different times. It's good to keep an eye on him and ask your pediatrician questions, but please do not expect Brody to do everything at the mark that is stated in the books. Enjoy this time with your precious baby!

Thank you guys so much for your nice comments. I have to admit, I think he's pretty darned cute :) I know I probably worry too much, but as a teacher of students with special needs, I sometimes know TOO much and look for things that probably aren't there.

Oh, he's just adorable & looks so bright. I'm sure those are his smiles right now, ready to grow into bigger ones when he gets "older". My mom used to say I never smiled as a baby & my baby book is full of "serious" pics, but I think I grew up fine. :-)
