Bbq questions...

I just learned how to butterfly a chicken (slow learner, I know), and I want to cook 1/2 of one on the bbq, and also cook potatoes and carrots, each in foil with butter and seasonings. How long should I expect them to take? I'm cooking for two people.

If you've pre-heated your bbq to say 350-400* and are using indirect bbq technique, it should take about 45 minutes.

I just bought a Weber Spirit, the one with stainless steal flavor bars, stainless steel grates, etc. (This model was for some reason hard to find. Maybe most people just pay the extra $200 for the Genesis. The Genesis was too big for me and my little patio). Weber has a longer warranty for the stainless steel parts vs the ceramic/cast iron parts, so I assume that means the stainless lasts longer. This model also has a side burner for beans, corn etc. ItÂs a little cheaper than the Genesis, and you donÂt lose much in surface area. So far I really like it. It gets really hot, maybe too hot! I canÂt shut the lid and come back 10 minutes later like I used to. PS if you buy the Weber grill cover, IÂve read some negative reviews about the vents letting in water when it rains.

Have a kitchenaid BBQ and love it. Bought it 2 years ago and have not had a bit of problem. It was about 2000.00 , am not sure of model but I can check tomorrow. Its at new house and we are having work party and BBQ so I can get model # if you would like. It cooks wonderfully, have not used rotisserie, or smoker but am confident those features would be fine as well.

Candy. We call it barbecue too. "Grill" usually means gas, though it also means the rack that makes the grill marks, so people use the words interchangeably.

FWIW, I usually double wrap with heavy duty foil when I'm grilling things. It'll take slightly longer for the heat to penetrate but I think it cooks more evenly and keeps the juices in. Foil tears rather easily. Also try to keep the items in a single layer to cook more quickly. Not trying to talk down to you, but sounded like it's a first time and just sharing a couple tips.

Oh and definitely use a thermometer on the chicken. Be sure to let us know how it turns out!

No problem, I appreciate all the tips I can get. My day got away from me though, so the next time I have a chance to do it is Friday. I will post the results!
