Those of you who have crackle tile- what do you clean yours with

Wondering what those of you use to clean your crackle tile with. I have been using a spray cleaner that I use in my kitchen, but not sure if it's safe for the crackle tile. Thanks.

I bought/had installed acres of crackle tile for backsplashes and countertops. Still love the look for that particular space, but was advised--and they are correct--that everything needs to be well sealed or you will get staining. What they didn't tell me was that for at least 90 days (assuming the tile was recently manufactured) it will continue to "crackle" and sealing it now won't help you with this continuation of crazing in a month. So, I have lots of staining that isn't too much for me--I can live with it--but I would just be using a clean rag and water to clean the tile if it is a recent installation. I wouldn't introduce anything that could be pulled down into the tile body and create a permanent discoloration.

I have a cream crackle backsplash and it's still pristine, not a single suggestion of stain. I'm not the classic "messy cook" so I don't have grease and sauces dripping down the b/s. I typically wipe with a damp sponge if I see a spot of anything. I've pretty much retired 409 from my kitchen, except the stove top, so nothing very harsh on my b/s.

Cats don't really get cavities. They do undergo a weird process where they resorb their teeth for some reason (it's not known why). This can expose the root and allow a direct access to the bloodstream for bacteria to enter and cause septicemia, leading to serious organ damage or even death. Every cat (and dog) is different in their dental needs. Some almost never need dental prophies, others need them a lot. I know a pair of bichon frises who get dental prophies every 6 months, and they really need it! OTOH my mom's dog never had a prophy in 14 years, and her teeth were in great shape. So it really depends on the individual. I would at least say that all dogs and cats need to have an oral exam every year, and a prophy recommendation made on the results of the exam. I would ask specifically what is involved in cleaning your cat's teeth. Some places do a crappy job IMHO in order to keep costs down. They should have the cat intubated and fully anesthetized (not just sedated), they should use an an ultrasonic scaler and polisher on both sides of all teeth and up under the gumline (some places just crack off the obvious tartar and don't polish, which makes it easier for bacteria and tartar to come back), they should probe all the teeth for pockets around the gums. I'm a little concerned that they even offered to just extract the bad tooth without doing a full dental prophy. Unless of course he had just had a prophy and then fractured a tooth or something. You can miss early signs of disease by not doing the full prophy.

I think I will go for the professional cleaning and look into the odaban for follow-up. Our kitchen floor is also wood, so cleaning it in there isn't an option and I am not sure I want to smell it wet in my living room. Olychick, no worries :) We tried pee pads several times, first after six months of "regular" housetraining had little effect--thinking maybe that is what she had been trained on in her original home. No go. She won't use them. She has gone a long way (from NEVER going potty outside under any circumstances to always asking to go out first and being "accident free" all day, every day when we are not at home. So, she clearly CAN hold it, but something about 4am when there is a full moon on a day with a T in it when her moon is in Aquarius (or some combination of events equally impossible for us to figure out) just makes her pee on the southwest corner of the rug.

Another issue I see with your floor plan is that your access to the back yard through the sliding glass door is very round about from the kitchen. I would try to create an L shaped kitchen with a smaller island so that you have more direct access to the back yard if you will be using the back yard alot. I think if you swap the closet and walk in pantry, you can have an L shaped kitchen.... Another "traffic jam" as you have drawn floor plan is the size of the living room furniture. You have blocked the person into the sitting area. You need to lay it out with smaller pieces of furniture so that people can walk out of the sitting area around both pieces of furniture. Again, this is how you psychologically create spaciousness if you are not building a huge house. You need to use furniture that is scaled right for the room. I think smaller L shaped couch may be a better option for you. When smaller houses are not laid out well, they feel cramped. If you pay attention to how they work, then they can live large. In smaller houses, it is more important to feel that walkways are adequate and traffic flows are not dead ended. You have very generous hallways, ie 5 ft. You need to creat similar spaciousness elsewhere by paying attention to traffic flow. If you have already thought through, then never mind. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I will accept that they will remain the way they are - still pretty but no sparkle and they won't crackle more. I did look at the Encore Bravo line but none of the colors would work. We were looking at one of the other Encore tiles- but it is much more $ than the Grazia and not super different (except for the sparkle). Thanks so much. Mine was sealed before installation about 2yrs. ago. Haven't resealed it since then. Should I? Plan to eliminate my spray cleaner and just use a wet cloth with a little dish detergent.

My tile guys were supposed to seal the edges of my tile as supposedly grout can spread into the crackles. I'm not convinced he did, but it looks like the sides of my tiles are actually glazed. There's absolutely no migration of grout into the crackles. I sealed my grout after the b/s was installed. Based on how everything looks, I have no plans to reseal. I think a spray bottle of water plus a little Dawn is all you need.

One other message: I have a crackle tile frame around my backsplash and the Lacanche vents to the back. All is well at the back of the electric oven, but the gas oven vent has stained the tile rather badly. The only solution is to put something like a breadboard or something in front of the vent so the backsplash doesn't get stained. I forget a lot.....
