Can I put in a Farm/Apron front sink?
Comments (7)Most people are not sink obsessed like the people here. If the look passes for you, then it will be fine. I bet someone will photoshop it in for you. It will be one thing in your kitchen and after it's done, it won't be under such scrutiny as it is at this moment while you're trying to decide if it will work. Does this particular sink have "wings" on each end? I only looked at it on one site and it looked on their picture as if there was a protrusion on each side to kind of hold it in place? I couldn't decide just how it really looked in real life by that picture. IF it really does have something extra on each side that would prevent it from being recessed enough, can you find another sink enough like it to use instead?...See MoreSplashing Issue with Farm/Apron Sinks??
Comments (3)I don't have any more issues with splashing in my single bowl farmhouse sink than I did with my divided drop in sink. Probably less splashing, if anything, since I can actually fit pots and pans flat in the bottom of the sink to wash them!...See MoreCopper farm sinks for less than the cost of an appliance????
Comments (9)Clean with baking soda. I put Arm and Hammer baking soda in a cheese jar (lid has holes) and use it like I would a can of scouring powder. It helps to have a sink grid. Measure your sink(s) to see what size(s) you may need. (There are two in each of my sinks. I got mine at Linens N Things.) It's black and looks good with the copper. It's also sized to go in my dishwasher to I can keep it sterilized when needed. Don't leave anything sitting in water or you'll get rings/stains. (Good reason for the sink grid.) Go to the auto store and buy a can of ??? spray-on rustproofing? (for the bottom of your car). (Forgive me, I've slept since then and don't quite remember the name. It's black and looks like styrofoam. It's very toxic so spray it on outside with plenty of ventilation.) More thin coats of rustproofing is better. I used about 8-10 in all for my sinks. This prevents condensation underneath the sink, so you don't have dripping in the bottom of your sink cabinet, and cuts down on the noise factor. I can't quite remember, but I avoid full strength bleach and ammonia. Scouring powder will scratch (like Barkeepers Friend) but may be preferable if you're going for a soft patina or just like shine. (Personally, I think trying to keep them shiny is nuts, IMO. Patina Is My Friend!) Wiping the surface down with a cloth (like you would a stainless steel sink) helps prevent corrosion and spotting, but isn't really necessary with a regular cleaning schedule....See MoreQuestion about sink base cabinets and Apron front/farm sinks
Comments (12)I have almost NO room at all under mine. The garbage disposal just about fills it. In fact, if you look closely on the left door you can see the black marks were it rubs against the inside of the door. The GC had to rout out some relief to get the door to close completely. I also had to carefully wrap all the hanging cords around the drain pipe to clear a bit of storage space above the pipe for the fertilizer and watering bottle for my plants. Still, I got the sink and the look I wanted that has the sink sitting forward, seemingly on the legs (that's what brought the disposal up against the door). Think about what you want under there. I could have gotten a smaller disposer (I compost so use it infrequently). And I don't use a lot of cleaners. I also don't have things under there like instant hot water or a soap dispenser -- just the guts of an airswitch. If you want those things think about where they'll all go. All in all I'm very happy with the look and the storage works for me. But you should be aware going in that it's sparce!...See MoreLMM170
