I have a Monogram advantium (microwave and convection oven), a Monogram Trivection, and a Gaggeneau steam oven. In addition, I have a warming drawer. Love them all and the convenience is second to none!

It depends on what you want - we got a range with a double oven in it - we don't use it enough to justify two ovens nor do we have the space, but every once in a while when you need more than a toaster oven for a second oven, it is wonderful. When we bought ours a year ago there were only a few options, but now several company's make them, depending on your price point. We got the frigidaire which is the cheaper of the bunch and love it.

I had a double oven and a range in my old kitchen. I found that I mainly used the third oven as a warming area for holidays. In the remodel, I did sort of like lsandler. I moved to a 36" range, and an Advantium over a single Monogram ZET1. I am really liking this set-up, because the versatility of the Advantium (microwave, toaster oven, speed oven, regular oven) complements the 36" Bluestar, which takes a while to preheat. I did not get a warming drawer because the ZET1 has a "warm" setting.

In a pinch, I have another range in our basement kitchen, but I doubt I will ever call it into service.

So, in summary, if you get a third oven, I would get an Advantium and ditch your microwave. I'm afraid the Advantium/oven combo is more expensive than a straight-up double oven, though.

Hey Danielle . I do bake a lot and have the double Miele. But you know I rarely have both ovens going. The Miele holds so much and I space out my stuff and plan at what temp I am doing things so that I cook in sequence rather than just turn on another oven. I do use both whenever we have holiday meals. Always have the main course in one and everything else in the other. I can't think of any time ever that I would have wanted 3 ovens. I bet one of the more versatile suggestions above would be better if you really want 3. Good Luck !! c

We are going to have three ovens (plus a microwave). But one of our ovens is in a wood burning stove which will not be on in the summer months. I bake alot and couldn't survive with only one oven the the summer. Rather than going down the expensive microwave combination route, I decided to have a second proper oven, in the baking centre away from everything else.

If you have the space I would go for it.

I'm going to do some research on convection microwaves.

I'm fairly sure too that with a higher-quality covection oven, I'll be able to cook more things in the oven with better results. Presently I can only do one rack of food at a time.

If you cook a lot and have the space and budget for three ovens, I say go for it (despite what your stepfather says!!). I just have one oven because of space, but I'd have loved another and would use another. If the price differential isn't that great to get the double, it will be there when you need it.

I picked up the New England Design magazine yesterday and read this story of a woman who put FIVE ovens into her kitchen. She took cooking classes in Provence years ago and met a group of seven people who she cooks with socially. They plan, plan, plan and then get together for these huge cooking marathons. This is why she wanted all the ovens. Good for her. I don't begrudge her... and I wouldn't begrudge you either (nor should anyone else).

Before I remodelled, I had a 1984 Sears brand convection / microwave which was large enough to roast a turkey. Which we did (and it was good). So I've basically always had two ovens at my disposal since the Dawn of Time.

While planning my kitchen remodel, I knew I wasn't going to keep the behemoth microwave. It was a functioning just fine, but was of legal drinking age. It was just so large I would have had to dedicate a real oven space for it & couldn't do it for 1) an appliance that old, and 2) the space. I went with a dual oven range.

I simply couldn't think of working in a kitchen with less. I've got a dual fuel range and configured it with one gas & one electric oven. I also have a teeny microwave convection oven.

We've got two cooks in our family. I bake. He roasts & broils. Having two separate temps going (3 if necessary b/c the micro is convection also), works great for the occasions. But this question is the similar to the one: "Why would one need more than two burners (or one for that matter), much less 4?" I remodelled for 5 burners on my range. Frankly, with a 40" range, two people can work at the stove top simultaneously. We do - a lot.

Do I use the ovens every day? No. Do I use 4, much less my 5, burners every day? No. But boy, when I'm cooking up a storm, everything gets used. When it's time to bake, I've got a factory going. I use the gas range for some foods, the electric for others because I have the choice. I can start in one, finish in the other. Have a pot roast going & biscuits baking.

If it works within your budget and your space, I'd strongly suggest it because it will open up a world of functionality you probably never really thought about before.

If you're not giving up something else that you need more then I'd do it. It's your kitchen, design it according to your needs not according to what someone else might or might not find acceptable or silly.

I don't think three is necessarily too many, but I wouldn't want three of the exact same kind of oven. Recommend at least one should be convection. If you bake a lot of bread and had the space and budget, what about an oven which can control or inject steam for those nice crusts? I think I may have seen some double oven combo's that do different things. Personally, I always like to have one smaller oven which uses less energy and heats up the kitchen less in summer. Or, as others have mentioned, would you benefit from a specialty oven like an advantium? What a fun decision to have to make - Best wishes!

I have a Cornufe, which has two ovens, and a Dacor 30 inch wall oven, so three ovens. I love it. I knew I had to have two ovens. I have desperately wanted two ovens forever. The Cornufe has two, but they are on the small side, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to fit the monster turkey in it that I make every year on Thanksgiving, so I got another full-size oven.

It was great on Thanksgiving to have the three ovens, and I have also made use of multiple ovens many other times, and I don't even cook that much. Will I often need to use all three? Doubtful, but on the rare occasion when I do, I love it.

If you're storing your shoes in one of the ovens it's too many :) Otherwise, if you have the space, money and desire, why not? Think about all the nice things you can bake which require starting or finishing in a cold oven. Yea you can make puffs, a souffle and a roast all after work...

(I'm getting a big oven, steam oven, advantium, and probably a warming drawer. If I could have fit double ovens with all the rest I might have... Ovens are good.)
