It's gorgeous marble (called Carrara btw). The figuring is very typical and I think it makes wonderful vanity. Not sure what you're not liking but Carrara usually looks like yours.

There are different grades,colorations,veinings and of course price to Carrara.

These are some of the higher grades.

Yours looks like standard grade. Still very nice and easier to disguise a small stain in that kind of standard pattern veining.

I think what happens with white marble once is installed indoors is that the white and gray veining blend together in the low light and turns into a gray (from a distance).

Therefore it is important to get slabs where the gray and white is clearly separated with large areas of pure white.
The first image by deeageaux is what I am talking about.

Maybe. But I prefer the subtler look of tinker_2006's stone, myself.

I like the second slab that dee posted... too late, my fault I didn't plan closer attention. Mine almost doesn't have veins... I think I am having renovation exhaustion!! I find that I'm nit-picking everything!

With the marble on a smaller vanity counter, instead of a large kitchen counter, the less pronounced veining might be a good thing. If you had picked a piece like the first photo from dee, it wouldn't show to great advantage in your bath. I think what you've done is beautiful.

I agree with andee, the more subtle marble is perfect for a vanity
of that size.

I think it has a very soft, soothing, pretty look. Perfect in a relaxing bathroom--very spa-feeling.

I love it! I think you will too, once the room is complete and you have everything in place. It looks realllly nice, and I like how the marble is greyish looking from afar!

I've heard that a lot of the Carrara that's available lately is more gray than it used to be. I don't know how true that is but I've heard a few stone people say it.

I'm not just saying this to be nice or make you feel better - I think it's soooo beautiful. I understand how it's not what you were expecting, but it looks just perfect. The white tile looks so nice with the white bowl and is a great contrast to the gray marble. I'll echo what others have said - the pattern in the marble is fantastic for the space - much better than the first photo from deeageaux. I'd love to see the floor and wall color with it when it's done.

tinker_2006, The SW Alabaster looks great with the counters and the beautiful backsplash. I really love the counters and feel they are perfect for your bathroom.

I love your marble and think it is just perfect for a bathroom. I definitely see the difference between your marble and the pictures that Dee posted. And while I think they are both lovely. I think your slab looks "bathroomy" and Dee's slabs loom more "kitcheny"

I think it would be a bit busy in the bathroom. I really like the calm, soothing, spa look yours has. Perfect for a bathroom in that nifty vintage inspired room you're doing. (btw, how did the vanity/floor issue turn out?)

And maybe my eyes are tired from too much wrapping and wine, but Dee's slabs look much more like Calacatta, not Carrara. Carrara is characterized by smaller, multiple veins like my kitchen above, and Calacatta has larger and fewer veins.

With the style of bathroom you are doing, I think yours looks good. It's similar to the antique counter/basins I see around here.

Because what I say or what anyone says may not make a

Do I think it is beautiful? Sure but if you want what
Breezy just showed I imagine you are disappointed. And
that can be difficult to figure out. Having hundreds of us
say it's Gorgeous is not going to help you design your
space into what you want it to be.

What does the rest of the bathroom look like?
Are you willing to spend more money to get a more dramatic
piece? Are you happy with the beauty of the stone you
currently have?

Sometimes reality has to blend with fantasy.
For me this happens all the time. I have a dream and then
I need to create the reality of that dream with what
I have around me.

Hoping you fall head over heels with your space as it is
now or what you want it to be.

tinker, it's only natural to be hyper about every little thing when it first goes in. Expectations get so ratcheted up. I hated my whole house and was ready to sell it!

You have a beautiful piece of stone that's perfect in your bathroom and the fabrication looks to be top notch. You know that folks here would tell you if they thought something didn't look good/right.

You made a lovely choice. Now go enjoy your Christmas!

Breezy... love, ove , LOVE your kitchen and yes, that is the Carrera marble I was expecting.. but again, it really is my fault for not really looking close enough at the slab! He said it was Carrera, it looked pretty white in the sunlight, and not so gray. The cabinet maker will be adding onto the legs so they touch, he feels it will be barely noticeable, thanks for asking!

boxer, thanks - I guess my dream is blended now! LOL I'm not willing to spend more time or money on the project at this point, and it actually does help having people say it looks right, maybe I'll look at it in a different view now..?

everyone else, thank you for your positive comments. I will try and look at it a little differently! As I said, I am finding that I'm nit picking every single thing.. I need to stop and realize I'm probably the only one who theses things jump at!

From what I can see of the bathroom, the whole space is turning out beautifully. I love the marble. I think seeing crazy veins first thing in the morning wouldn't suit me. I like how this marble has a calm soothing feel. If you don't love it after a couple of months, reanalyze then, but this is really a beauty!

Cararra but I LOVE it and I think it's perfect in your bathroom from what I can tell!

I think it's lovely. Like 2LittleFishies, I heard from our local stoneyard that the Carrera they're getting in now is like yours, much more gray than white. The guy there said if I'm looking for white with soft, more spaced gray veins, their lot of Statuary would be what I wanted.

Funny how marble changes. We have an old house with Carrera fireplace mantles and most are very white with a few grey veins. The one Statuary fireplace is pure ivory, no veins at all.

I was thinking about you again this morning while in my lovely 1970s vintage avocado bathroom while admiring my stunning avocado laminate counters. (we reno'd the whole house except this one room to save some money now. Will redo that room in 2013.)

I had to come back and look at your quiet, demure Carrara. I just love your whole bathroom so much! Like Boxer noted, no matter what we say, it's your room and you have to live with it. My equilibrium has been thrown off during the reno when something turned out differently than I had in my head. Witness my panicked pantry corner issue that I'm not going to post. :( I took some time to NOT think about it to see if I could get used to the reality instead of my vision in my head. It all worked out. I like Brianna's idea of living with your stone for a while.

Thanks for the update on the vanity. I'm really looking forward to seeing the room when its done. Could I ask you to please update your vanity thread with the fix when your cab maker is done? I like seeing the resolution to these kind of issues. I think others do, too.
