I vote Baltic too, but then you really should ignore me, I just spent endless days picking out a paint colour for the bathroom that turned out to be......poopy mustard (according to DH!!)

Here is the baltic brown with the corresponding edge. This is how the granite tile system works. I just wonder about have baltic brown tiles because the brown "bubbles" will hit the edges and it might have a tiled-look, when of course I want the seamless slab look.

But baltic eh? Thats what the hubby said first (later changed his mind) and thats what the best friend just voted.

I vote for Baltic Brown too. Just showed your choices to my DH and he also agreed.

St. Cecilia. It's more soothing to have the horizonal elements in the room in the same tones. It moves the eye around like a comma does in a sentence, rather than acting as a period to stop the eye. If the floor were darker, then maybe the Baltic Brown.

Please share the info about your granite tile system. I'm aware of a few on the market but none of them that I've seen are as inexpensive as laminate.

Not sure why (personal preference most likely) but I like it when the horizontal surfaces have a similar registration. So I find the Baltic a little dark and prefer the Giallo Veneziano or the Juparano with your tile. I would then probably go with a stronger wall colour and backsplash.

This picture is of the tops from my Mom's botched install last Monday but you get the feel about the similar depth of colour between the floor and the counter rather than having your darkest colour at counter height. The Baltic Brown will look great - just thought I would throw a different viewpoint out there.

Man, this is a tough decision. We are leveling the floor and installing the cabinets this week, and next week will start with the countertops. I researched the granite tile systems, theres a few out there, but the optional edge styles were the most important to me. The sharp squared edge look with granite tile from Depot or Lowes isn't very soft. I'm going with BEDROCK CREATIONS (google that) and they dont have many colors (13) and not every color comes in all the edge styles. They have beveled, ogee and bullnose. The grout lines will be 1/16" and their website lists the best color matched grout for the granite you select, the colored grouts are from Depot.

I don't have a large kitchen, and I got a quote for 22 12x12 tiles and 14 12" edges. I'll order extra for mis-cuts, but for that amount of tile it cost $399 for the beveled and $549 for the ogee. The only color with a slightly higher price was the giallo veneziano.

I've called the company once to ask if they had a minimum order (they dont, the others do) and to find out about shipping (on your doorstep in 7 days). It's $95 for shipping. I ordered the samples on Thursday and they came Saturday morning. I'm pretty happy with them. I figure another $100 for the plywood, thinset, backerboard, grout and sealer.

I really like the look of the same granite on the backsplash, but wondering if a small kitchen wouldnt benefit from that...I'm reading that small busy mosiacs are better in a small kitchen. Also researching undercabinet lighting, now is the best time to install it.

I like the Tropic Brown best because it isn't quite as blotchy looking as Baltic Brown.

I like tropic too. Or juperano, if I want to get matchy.

As you can see, its a small kitchen. The stove gets moved to next to the fridge (I know I know) but we had to because we're installing a dishwasher next to the sink. I have a John Boos standing block island, which will be good because you'll be able to see more floor space.

Be careful of Baltic Brown - it's in many men's rooms in restaurants.

I love the Tropic Brown...I prefer contrast so that is why..otherwise...like those above, if you want to be closer in color to your floor and cabs, then go with the Juparano....Re: Baltic..I truly dislike it as it is so spotty....all you see when you look at it (esp. a big slab of it) is spots...kind of takes away from it I think...but again, it's whatever you like...good luck!

I didnt like the baltic at all, the DH did. Then my friend did. Then all kinds of people on here did.

I like the tropic, and i think when its tiled, even though the grout lines are very small, the tiled pattern wont be as apparent, as opposed to going with the blotchy-ness.

Juperano would be a good match.

BACKSPLASH?? Continue granite up or small mosiac? Backsplash is killing me...

I vote for the Giallo Veneziano - and now I see why - you said it was more expensive! That is usually the case with my selections.

For the backspash - I would either continue the granite up or use a larger format ceramic. I think mosaic will be too busy with all of these granites, which to me read more granular.

Vote for Giallo Veneziano or St. Cecilia. Not crazy about the darker ones
with your cabs and flooring.

I am a little farther along than you today and my kittys and
dog are really curious about all of it! Dog had plaster all over
his tail the other day and we had to keep them all out so there
would not be prints in the grout!

Aren't these choices feeling huge and scary? We finally chose our
granite last week and it was like whew...one down!

Juparano or Giallo Veneziano both are soothing and not too matchy matchy. The cat might go will with the granite too? :-)

The big decisions ARE scary! I've been reading these forums since we started (closed on the house sept 9th) but the other decisions didn't seem so bad...like paint color, you know?

In 3 months we painted the outside, landscaped, refinished original hardwoods, painted every wall, ceiling, piece of trim, gutted the bathroom (finished!) and put carpet in bedrooms. The only thing we paid to have done was the carpet. DH really is a DH...he was laid off in Sept so the house is his full time job.

we're doing everything we can by ourselves, and i'm so proud that theres so much i can do myself. I did the bathroom floor by myself (above pics).

this kitchen...hmm...shooting for before christmas, traveling out of state. at least the granite will be shipped in a week, even the laminate would have taken longer. a lot of +'s going this route; plus i know we wont be here forever (its our starter house) so the granite tile should be good for resale. its a starter house neighborhood, not a lot of granite around here.

Its down to Juparano and Tropic Brown. The only difference between the two (besides color) is that juperano only comes in an ogee edge, and tropic brown only comes in beveled or bullnose.

One more vote for Tropic Brown, for all the previously stated reasons. The Baltic is too splotchy.

I want to put my vote in for tropic brown I liked it right away but when everyone was voting for baltic brown I thought they saw something I did not.I don't like the big blobs in BB. I will have medium cherry also and am going through the same thing. Everyone keeps telling me I have to go dark but I am not a fan of the fingerprints on dark surfaces. I think the little tones of green in th TB really compliment the cherry and make it look rich. Good Luck be prepared for some sleepless nights LOL.

I'm sticking with Juparano. Have you thought about grout color and keeping it clean? It might be less of a problem with the lighter color granite tiles.

Definitely Tropic Brown.

The bedrock creations website lists the grout colors from Depot that will match up, though i will investigate that matter a little on my own too. From the pics on their site, the darker colors show the grout lines more. as far as keeping it clean...well..what are you going to do, countertops will get dirty no matter what!

i have a hard time understanding the statement "i dont want granite, too much maintenance". YOU SPRAY A SEALER ON IT ONCE A YEAR AND WIPE IT OFF IN 15 MINUTES.

i have a john boos standing block (solid 12" thick maple" as my island, and that things needs wayyyy more maintenance.

It's a sheet floor - "Copper Concrete" in a Fibre Floor from Tarkett. Like you my Mom didn't want the hardness or the coolness of tile - she also has some kind of seam phobia so grout lines were out. It was her choice and I'm with you I find it pretty funky - leave it to the 68 year old.

You did a good job on the eliminations. Great minds think alike (when live wire oak reads that she's going to spit whatever she is drinking across the room) but on its' own I like the St Cecilia best as a granite (it has such nice soft colouring) but wasn't sure it worked with the floor (long as it works with the backsplash it probably doesn't need to). If you use it I'm sure the Baltic will look great but I have to say uninstalled it is my least favourite and in a small room that hard break at counter height may really cut up the room (I would also think about whether it is too dark for a small space). I love all Juparana's : my favorites: reds, sienna bordeaux, anything that is a bordeaux has tons of character and work of art; no 2 slabs the same.
