Are you talking about it angled in the corner or butted up against the side?

If butted up against the side you can't turn any handles in that direction as it will hit the wall and you will have very little elbow room. To test out you could build something to simulate the stove out of cardboard boxes and put up against a wall and see how it works for you. I personally would want a min of 6" there if you could spare it. Not the ideal space, but in a small kitchen you rarely get ideal.

What does the rest of your kitchen look like. Can you show it as there might be some people here that have some good input in what you could do to get the most out of your space.

I'm remodeling now, and getting the range out of the corner was a huge priority. Mine was in a "left" corner and I never used the leftside buners because I couldn't use my right hand to stir or move the pot without squashing myself into the corner. I hated it.

Thanks for the opinions... yes, Lyfia, I have simulated standing in this location as my current cooktop is 12" from the wall. I'm just so desperate for more countertop space that I'm trying to see what trade offs I can live with. And, to lightlystarched, I appreciate the first-hand experience. I think I'll seriously reconsider this idea and keep the cooking out of the corner. Thanks for the help.

Sharb's kitchen (see the FKB, 9th pic in her album) has a range diagonally placed. In her case though, she has a diagonal wall--but it might also work if you put it in a corner and perhaps put up a "wall" behind it. If you had a cooktop, I'd suggest just recessing it in the corner somewhat and running the countertop into the corner; but you want a range so you'll probably have to make a wall to go behind it. If there is no wall, you'll have a triangular hole behind the range.

However, be aware that anything in the corner (wall oven, range, etc.) will eat up wall and accessible counterspace. Alku05 put her ovens in the corner. Her 33" oven cabinet takes up approximately 4' of wall space on each wall.

Are you sure there isn't another place to put your range?

How about posting your layout and see if the combined minds of GW can come up with a way to add more counterspace (I was in the same place recently...and that was one of my #1 priorities....more counterspace. Well, together we found a lot more...maybe too much! Nah! You can't have too much counterspace LOL!)

Another way to get more counter space--not ideal, but useful, is to have a pullout or a flip up. These need strong brackets and springs and stuff so that you can actually put heavy things on them, cut, etc. I had a friend who had a flip down piece of counter across the door like you'd see in a shop. The kids just walked under it :)

Our range is not up against a wall, but its left edge is up against the side of a tall wall oven cabinet. There is a tile backsplash (sidesplash?) on that cabinet. I can fit my largest skillet on that burner, and it's pretty well centered on the burner (not completely), but the handle does stick out into the middle of the range, and the edge of the pan comes pretty close to hitting the tile.

Since we have that tall cabinet right there, I'm not standing in a corner / next to a wall while cooking (which is good, because I think that would make me feel pretty boxed in). But there's no landing space for stuff from the oven on that side -- and only a 12"-wide spot on the other side, so it's not a safe situation. When kitchen people come to my house, they wince when they see the stove pushed up against that sidesplash.
