Car wax to seal stone counters vs. "real" sealers

What is the opinion of using car wax (e.g. Meguiar's) to seal natural granite or quartzite counters? Is this an okay option or is it an absolutely terrible idea? Is it a lot cheaper than the real thing? What are the pros and cons?

I've read on here about BulletProof stone sealer and am wondering what is the difference between it and car wax which I'm guessing does essentially the same thing which is to allow water to bead up and not penetrate.

What IS the best sealer for granite/quartzite counters? (I suppose I could google that info to find it on gardenweb.)

Please educate me (and anybody else who was wondering). Thanks.
