Maybe it's a pop up blocker issue? If you go into ... I'm not sure; maybe preferences or some kind of setting app.; you can "enable" websites that for some reason may be blocked by your computer. I'm just guessing here. I had the same problem a week or so ago but it cleared up.

Also, try googling any older post and then signing on from there as if you were going to respond and then click back into "back to kitchen forums".

I know it's a stretch but had to try... I can't refuse a request from rhome!

Ask Byronroad aka Blfenton(sp??) He/she had similar problem just recently.

The only way I can log in is to go through the main GW page. I go to the main page and then I go to the drop down box for forums and I choose the area I want and the list of all of them comes up and then I click on the one I want....so for ex. I choose " Kitchens" this lets me log in but nothing else will work. So far they have not been able to figure out why this has happened. So instead of creating a new name etc...I was tempted to do the same when I was unable to log in, just try going to the main GW page and come in the long way. Hope this helps. c

Has she cleared her cache, history and cookies? If not, GW is still picking up her old stuff.

Trailrunner, she would like to know 'what is the main page?' I'm assuming you meant just put in 'ths.gardenweb.com?'

Have her email you her old username and password. Try to log in as her, if you can do that, then try having her update her browser or download a new browser (Chrome or Firefox). It sounds like some of their redirect/authorization code is not compatible with her browser version (just a guess here).

But first confirm that the account is not locked by logging in as her.

Wahooooooooooo! I'm back, baby!

Honestly, I've been struggling with this for days and days and nothing has worked until now. Yes, I cleared cookies, cache, history, did multiple shut-downs between each step, tried to log in here, at other pages, on the main page, created a new email account, new user name ... and nothing worked! Not one danged thing. Until just now. I was able to log in on the main page - or what I think is the main page. And it worked!!!! That's the first time that tactic has worked. The forum gods must have heard my pleas and responded. Or maybe it was the combined goodwill of you forum fairies that did it.

Seems I'm in the same boat as you trailrunner. I can't log in at kitchen forum, only at the main page and it's a very convoluted process. Do you stay logged in or do you need to log in each time even if you check the "keep me logged in" box? I haven't been able to stay logged in, despite checking that box, for months.

I had the problem of getting logged out constantly sometime last week. I had to go to www.gardenweb.com, log in there at the main page, and then navigate to the Kitchen Forum. It happened over and over, but at least I could get in each time. It was a PITA though. I'm glad you're back in!

Breezy, I told rhome that in all the years I've been coming to GW (over a decade) I've never had the log-in problems that I've had in recent years and NOTHING even close to this latest headache. I never got sent to Disneyland by Spike (previous owner) but I sure felt like I was banned for no cause this time.

And now, enough of these boring computer problems. Let's get back to kitchen fun!

Glad I was able to provide the solution. It is all that works. Nothing else does. I cleared cookies yada yada yada....I have a Mac and everything a person could want to prevent any problem and still...

I am now able to go to the main GW page and click on Forums and then chose Home and then Kitchen. At that point I DONOT have to log in ...I am still logged in but I do have to jump through these hoops EVERY single time I get on. Sigh...should have limited my GW time LOL....but like Pavlov's dogs I guess I will do anything to get a treat. c

Lisa, when you cleared cookies in Firefox, did you just do the visible cookies, or did you go through Firefox and edit the sqlite cookies file?

I'm not sure that this is applicable, but you might also want to look at damaged places trouble.

Not sure what you mean by visible cookies versus sqlite cookies file? In Firefox, I open Tools, choose Options and then remove cookies or clear cookies or whatever it says. I've done the whole cookie history and individual cookies as needed multiple times. Sounds like another question for my geek squad.

If you're clearing cookies that way it should work. The cookie removers in third party security software generally can't do it. Some sense cookies but can only wave at them as they go by. The sqlite files might still be the problem. Or not. I'm a used to be techie, so I understand the lingo, but I know more about structured COBOL for business applications and how to break an assembly language compiler than this stuff.

Byronroad here (AKA blfenton) Gw made me change my username and the only way I can login is to go through the main gardenweb page and then make my way back to the kitchen forum. - exactly like trailrunner does. But I had to change my username (Breezygirl - I'm a she) and for some reason I also stayed logged in.

One weird problem I've had (that I attribute to the awfulness of the GW message board software...) is that, occasionally, if you do a search on Google, you'll hit on a thread that has http://www.thathomesite.com/forums/ as the leading part of the URL rather than the normal http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/ that you get if you go to the GardenWeb website and navigate to this forum. For whatever reason, although you can click and see new messages just like you would if you were actually in the forum, if you try to log in it will just cycle you through a loop, with "name" appearing blank. I have no idea why these aren't seamlessly integrated or why it's possible to see the new posts with the old domain, but if you just type over it with ths.gardenweb.com it will fix the problem. Probably won't work for every instance of this, but if you're someone like me who searches in Google or other outside search engines, it's worth making sure the address bar shows the right domain if you have trouble logging in.

Also, for those with Macs---if you're having problems with not being able to clear the old user name/password, you might make sure Keychain isn't set to save your user names. That info won't get reset when the browser cookies and cache are cleared.

Wow; what a mess ... my sympathies to one and all!

I think by definition, when GW automatically kicks you back to something else, you somehow haven't cleared out some cache or set of cookies somewhere. Trouble is finding where. Else it wouldn't know how to reset you unless it was reading that old stuff. grrrrr.

My problems, it seems, aren't over.

I haven't logged out, I hadn't even closed the kitchen forum page, keeping it open even when I put my computer in sleep mode, in the hope that I wouldn't get booted off and then find myself unable to log back in.

Best laid plans and all that. I got booted off anyway. Or so it seemed. According to the bottom of the forum page, I wasn't logged in and once again, I couldn't log in. I tried to log in at the main page - or what I think is the main page - and all I got was a page of error code. I went to my profile and what did I see? "Welcome, lisa-a" as if I were logged in! So, thinking I had nothing to lose, I went through the log out action and then logged back in. It worked. Don't ask me to explain why because I honestly don't understand this illogical process.

So, if you are like me and having multiple log-in issues, try this and see if it works for you. Fingers crossed.

aliris, nice guess but I have cleared out cookies - all cookies - and history multiple times. Didn't make any difference.

Well I never log out officially and when I go out of GW and come back I can't post unless I go to the main GW page and I see where it says I am still logged in...sigh...and then I use the drop down box and get the home forums and choose kitchen and then I can post...who knows what the problem is but I can post as long as I go through the hoops. c

I had to change my user name and use a different email address over a year ago. I couldn't find any threads from my previous name. It's very crazy. Fortunately I haven't yet been booted off a second time!
