What color are your major kitchen appliances?
Comments (25)We've had white for 15 years, replaced a DW about 5 years ago and stuck with white. Recently bought a white fridge to replace our almost 20 year old fridge. Then I started appliance shopping for new oven, MW, cooktop, etc - and hit road blocks. I like white but what I don't like is the limited selection of white appliances. I didn't want the upkeep of SS nor did I want to pay the extra mark-up but now I'm wishing I'd gone that route so that my appliance color isn't such a constricting factor in my appliance selection. I know people paint older appliances. Would it be insane to paint an almost new fridge to look SS? Or should I just get over the fact that I might end up with mis-matched appliances? If it matters, the fridge and wall oven won't be on the same wall. If it was just white and SS, it wouldn't bother me as much but so many of the SS wall ovens have lots of black on them and I think that will stick out like a sore thumb with my white appliances. I'm also planning to get a warming drawer. Since I want to panel it, the only choice is Dacor. I visit our salesman at the local appliance store regularly but so far, no decisions have been made and I'm so frustrated by the whole process!...See Morematching upper lower kitchen cabinets?
Comments (8)Thanks guys, and thanks for the link. I'm still figuring out how gardenweb works - there is so much information here. oofasis & rabbit house, your kitchens sound beautiful and well thought out. Mine needs to stay in the mid-century category as far as simplicity, but I don't want it to look retro or cold. Last night as I was flipping through channels I stumbled on George Lopez's sitcom (I don't know what it is called). Besides really liking the terracotta wall behind them, I noticed their top cabinets are my color, and their bottom cabinets a dark green. Funny place to find kitchen design ideas! I'll post a photo when I can manage it....See MoreWhat color is in your kitchen
Comments (13)I'm building a kitchen with warm golden/yellow walls and beautiful granite countertops with gold in it :oP I'll show pictures if we ever finish LOL My walls will be venetian plaster this time, and the color is soft of a soft gold/pumpkin tone. The countertops are Vulcan gold granite, which is a mix of black, white and amber gold. I'm doing amber glass in the upper cabinets as well. I tried the color with our old kitchen (which had dreadful beige countrtops LOL) and the color really works if you can get rid of that wallpaper :) You'd be amazed how well those beige counters can look if you warm up the room with golds. That burgundy/green combo (IMOHO) feels a bit too stark against the beige. So how about it....get a steamer out and get some work done???? heh heh Once you go with a rich autumn tone in your kitchen you'll never be able to retun to anything else. There's just something about those warm golds and reds that scream "great place to gather"!...See Morepaint color for kitchen
Comments (39)Kitchens are the center of homes: A workplace, laboratory, calling room for drop in friends, and the family board room. My preference in color is something light and airy, not dark and gloomy. I do recall a time and place where the the head female of the house chose kitchen colors based on practical consideration of the equipment therein, mainly a wood burning kitchen stove. The predominate color of that cast iron stove was black with maybe some polished plated trim. Over a period of use, the other color was smoke and soot stains. Housewives desired white ceilings, but in deference to practicality, chose tans because it showed smoke stains less. Thankfully, today's kitchen manager has better color options. I mentioned the beforehand information because it had an influence on color schemes of kitchens a 100 years ago....See Morerhome410
