Well, it is definitely intriguing. It would take a deep drawer, and a deep drawer as the top drawer is different.
I think dropping the forks and the knives in would also beat up the drawer bottom, which I am not keen on. I might like this better if it were just a cutlery basket, like for a picnic table, inserted into a deep drawer. That would be easier to keep clean too.

That looks like it is built as part of the drawer. You could achieve something similar by using pencil/pen holders, or dish rack holders.

To me, it's a cute idea, but not one that would work well in practice. I'll link a past discussion on that same pic.

I'm thinking that the way we unload cutlery around here, the bottom of that drawer would be seriously dinged up in no time at all, and the tips of the butter knives and forks might not be in such good shape either, depending on what kind of material was at the bottom. Think handfuls of things dropped in. It appears to be another great idea that's better in theory than in actuality.

I find it interesting at first glance, but I wonder if the reality would be that (since you can't see the end of the utensils) you'd constantly be lifting out a small fork when you wanted a big one, etc.

How do you clean the bottom of it if your hand is too big to wipe around the corners?

Protecting the bottom isn't difficult.
But cleaning it...

Here is how I think you would clean it-- empty contents, remove drawer from glides, and spray out over the sink and wipe dry.

For crumbs only, use the vacuum or do as above and give it a shake.

MizLizzie-I know the outcome. Mamadadapaige did not end up using this storage option. I see too many potential issues with this to think its practical. Heck, even in my house where the silverware lays horizontally DH still occasionally gets the wrong forks in the wrong pile when uloading the DW. Storing like in the pic above would be worse for me.

I have a friend who has something similar in her kitchen, my first question was about cleaning also. Hers is an insert, just the dividers, so it lifts out to clean. The bottom of the drawer is protected my a piece of spongey shelf liner. It works perfectly for her family, with five kids, a husband and a grandmother.

I see it just like a DW basket of silverware and I never liked the basket in the DW, so probably would not like this either. I do have a picnic version that you could insert into a taller drawer.
Maybe a DW company would sell a second basket that you could put in a drawer and then just swap out baskets with clean and dirty... Well a thought but I guess you would never have everything out of either basket!
