Will Kohler Stages 33 inch sink work as my only sink?

Hi again,

I'm renovating my small kitchen (currently 7' x 11',) and will end up as an L-shape with island, at about 11' x 11'. On one counter, I'd like to put in a larger sink to function both as prep sink and clean-up sink (with the ability to hide some dishes/pots in a pinch.) I can go as large as a 36" base cabinet, I think. Will the raised deck in the Stages 33" sink inhibit my cleaning; will the cleaning part of the sink feel too small? I can tell the Stages 33" would be a great prep sink; I'm just worried about it as a cleaning sink. I can also tell that the larger Stages sink (45"?) would be great at both, but my kitchen is too small for such a large sink.

Any thoughts? Other suggestions?

It looks like the actual sink part of the sink is 19" wide, which is 2" smaller than the sink I have now. I really like the sink I have now- it's a single bowl and much more useful than the double bowl sink I used to have. However I think that what I have now is about the smallest I would be comfortable with for cleaning purposes. The Kohler is a LOT deeper than my current sink, but I think the small bowl size would be an issue cleaning. I'd rather have the whole sink be a bowl and just prep on the counter like I do now.

I have the Stages 45 sink and really like it. The bowl is almost too big, I'm used to a double sink and the size of it is huge (to me). I really like the grate at the bottom and the raised area at the side. I would think the Stages 33 would only be "too small" if you frequently wash really large items like griddle, huge pots, etc. Any chance of seeing one in person? You could take your most-often-used pots and pans with you to test the sink.

I actually find the work side, for me, is the cutting board side. A quick rinse, wash and up it goes to the cutting board. I suppose having more space on both sides is ideal but I didn't want the sink in the middle of the island . Having a long unbroken run of counter on the island was more appealing to me than having lots of counter space on both sides of the sink. The sink is in a 36" cabinet and there is 4" of filler beside the sink. This with the counter overhang gives just over 7" of counter on the short side of the sink. As much as the stages sink is wonderful, I have to say the Karbon faucet is that much better and is so functionaal especially with the sink. Hope the pics help!

To see if a Ticor undermount stainless sink would fit, I just called the sink manufacturer and he said to add about 2 1/2" to the sink width to allow for mounting clips while the sink is being set into the granite. So a 15" sink requires 17 1/2" of clearance inside the cabinet - or an 18" cabinet. We are ordering a 30" sink for our 33" base cabinet. I would think a 33" sink would require a 36" base. Good luck - I can sympathise from your tko stress - so many details to work through!

brittu; I have the 45 version and I really like it. I find that I typically do not use the wood cutting board and the trays at the same time. What I really like the plastic trays are for using spice rubs on meats that I'm taking to the grill, and also for putting hot soapy water in the smaller one for holding meat-contaminated knives, so I don't contaminate the sink with just those. A couple months ago I posted my personal review of the sink. You may have read it already -- I do want to point out that I did not use the accessory tray below, but rather, put a drawer and a garbage pullout below the shallow end of the sink. I would def use the sink again -- if I was cramped for space I'd go with the smaller, but I do love the large size. Here is a link that might be useful: my review of the stages sink

Yes, when I say it started with the sink, I did mean it quite literally. The first thing that bothered me about our kitchen when we moved in was the sink. But if you replace the sink, you really need to replace the counters and the faucet, and it would be a good time to replace the dishwasher. If you are going to replace the counters, then you might as well think about making any other changes... which lead to moving the range and adding a cabinet, and so it goes. I think the other thing about a sink is that it's something that you use all the time. Constantly. It seems like everything in a kitchen revolves around the sink. And that's probably why if you have room, two sinks are a good idea. But I will be happy just to get this one large sink installed. And I hope by starting with it, everything else will fall into place.

Jenny1963, if you're still watching this thread, what did you end up doing? I was all set to go with a Blanco sink but am now seriously considering the Stages. Can 33" work for as one's single sink for everything? Thanks!
