Cup pulls for cabinets

I really hate to ask this but can some of you show me photos of your cup pulls I really don't know what to install for my hardware. I have maple, toffe cabinets. Arch top. I love pulls but I am terrible at visualizing the finished product. I have stainless steel appliances. I did go to the store and buy a few to try on the cabinets. Nothing really says wow. Thanks

Today I went and brought about $100 worth of cabinet hardware. Al different styles and colors. This way I could at least see for my self what attracts me. First it was the aged copper, but know I think I made up my mind for satin silver.

I did the same thing, bought a bunch of them and just held them up to my cabinets, in different areas of my house. I didn't like any of the ones I bought, but I did make some decisions. Now I am on the internet, looking for different ones than the big box stores carry. Out of all the decisions I have had to make for the house, this is a tough one. Even my son agreed. He was online with me and finally gave up, with a headache!

Thank you for these replies! palimpsest-I was also thinking tone wise that the burnished antique might be best as well. I'm in Portland so am fortunate to see actual fixtures at the store. My concern is there's something that looks a bit more... artificial? modern? to me sometimes in that finish? Was wondering if maybe it would look more authentic to age some unlacquered brass or just go for the ORB? warmfridge, I'm sure it's frustrating trying to find the perfect match and I can already see growing a little collection myself looking for "best!" Thank you for another vote for the burnished antique. I did wonder if ORB would just look black when placed in close proximity throughout the kitchen. judeny, I will check into the hardware options you mentioned, thank you! I'm esp. interested in the fact you still used satin stainless faucets. That might be a very good compromise. Perhaps have the ceiling fixtures and hardware on the kitchen cabinets and adjacent built in cabinetry in the aged brass and stick with stainless faucets to tie in the stainless appliances...? Would you have any photos to share? I was googling aging process of brass (apparently you can make it happen quick) and found some methods-e.g. enclose your (solid brass, unlacquered) item raised up in a sealed container with ammonia at the bottom and presto, instant aging. I'm not sure how you seal that afterward to keep it the tone you want. And won't work for me given the sheer quantity of hardware I need. But in case anyone else just has a piece or two that they're trying to age or "coordinate." Also found link for this product-no experience here obviously-but if it helps someone else. No, you just need a correctly-sized drill bit to make a countersink for the stud. I like a Festool Centrotech bit for these jobs. It gives a very fine hole without the grabbiness of a brad-point, which is hard to control for depth (it's a self-feeding bit) without a drill press. Casey

Thanks Mudhouse. I was half joking about the stupidly overdone and expensive. I wanted to spend $35K, but wound up close to $40K. And I could have gotten away for a lot less. . . .costs overran about $1K on paint, $2K on granite for going full backsplash as I didn't like any other alternatives, $500 in tools that I either broke or thought I needed, $1K replaced dishwasher where I was going to reuse the old one. It wasn't the cabinets that caused all the expense, but all the nice appliances, sink and fixtures I found out about from this forum. Never thought i would be spending $3+K on the kitchen sink - but just had to have it.once i saw it, same for the range top. Haha - so I have all of you to blame. : )

Where did you put recycle bin pull-out cabinet?

I have a double trash pullout, the front is used for garbage and the rear is used for recyclables (glass, cans, bottles). Looking at my sink, the trash cabinet is to the left. The dishwasher is to the right. A couple times a week DH dumps the recyclables into a bin in the garage, which he either leaves at the curb on pick-up day (we pay for trash pick up) or he takes it to the transfer station. We are not required to separate the recyclables when we put them at the curb, so we don't need 3+ bins. I love Linda's setup, though.

what color cabinets do you have? What decisions have you made. I am so afraid I will make a wrong one again......

I have maple, 'toffee' colored cabinets too. At least the box calls my style 'Toffee'. I got my knobs and pulls from Lee Valley, and in fact the back ordered ones just arrived today! They have lots of choices, and very good prices too.

vwhippiechick - where did you get your pulls? They look good - and how big are they? DH has tried a couple of the ones I got from a local store, but they are too small for his fingers.

And had anyone with cup pulls run into difficulties wanting to open the drawer from the top?

Our pulls were supplied by the cabinet company. I am not sure of the manufacturer but I will be talking to the owner in the next day or so. I have to tell you this, when they installed the cabinets, the one in the pic was in place from the factory. They forgot to send the others for the 2 drawer stacks. They came today to install them and the color was not right. They were too coppery looking. Is that normal for ORB. The other knobs and handles are ORB and they look way more brown. I may start a thread on this. So I am going to the cab company to look at some other options asap. Hope you find some you like.
