Hi! I used one knob on both of my dishwashers and they have been fine for the 5 months that I have been using them. I struggled with the decision and have no regrets! Good luck with your decision!

So the knob gives you enough leverage? And can you grasp it ok with a wet hand?

I think "looks" will have to beat out "comfort" in my kitchen!

I wanted my DW to blend in as much as possible, so I designed the panel to mimic the rest of my cabinet doors. It has what looks like a drawer on top, and a door on the bottom. I had them place the knobs exactly where they were on the other drawers and cabinets. I use only the one on the fake "drawer" to open the DW. It's been in use for two years now, and I've never had any problems. If at some point in the future if I have trouble grasping the knob, I'll have to replace all of the knobs in my kitchen with something else. But for now, I really like the way the knobs look. I'm so excited for you the progress going on! This should take you to sharb's dishwasher picture -- it's basically the same (idea) as athomedad's (whose kitchen is gorgeous, by the way). I think it's brilliant! It was sharb's kitchen I saw shortly after I came to GW and in particular I fell in love with the faux drawer over door dishwasher panel. I'm going to do it as well!

Go with the knob. As athomedad wrote, if you develop any sort of hand issues you'll need to change all your knobs anyway. Live for the now!

Here are some photo ideas of how my panel is supposed to look. Thank goodness my cabinetmaker mentioned his ideas yesterday, because he misunderstood what I wanted.

First, my inspiration photo (my dishwasher will have framing all around it like this one, but will have one door under the fake drawer, instead of two).

However, none of the original drawers in my kitchen are inset--they are all overlay. And I want the fake DW drawer to be overlay. The cabinetmaker thought I wanted it inset. Here is an original drawer and cabinet combo on the other side of my kitchen. I want the DW panel to look exactly like this. Except not crooked and with fewer gaps! Ah--my poor old cabinets!

He hesitated about this. I guess it is more work to do an overlay drawer piece and attach it to the panel. But he agreed to try it. Here is my drawing that I initially made for the kitchen. The DW panel will have hinges and a latch on the fake door part.

I hope it works! I'm so stressed and nervous about all this. I'm going through the zantac like crazy!

If it bugs you as you age, you can just replace it and the one on the other side of the sink with a bigger one--you can get even bigger hex knobs if you look hard enough.

And if that doesn't work, you can replace it with the double-hex pull (this is why painted works so well: easy to fill holes!) and it won't look weird at all.

Just remember you aren't STUCK with it forEVER!
