Arrrrr........My Granite is Driving me crazy!!!!! Help

Okay so I have a month old kitchen with Silver Pearl Granite which is almost black, the installers said I should just use Windex to clean them well they are forever streaky a little cloudy even its driving me nuts! I spend so much time on them! everytime I clean them I dont let anyone touch them for fear of fingerprints. Please help im on my 3rd cleaner to solve this and nothing works. Does anyone have this problem or know a great granite cleaner which doesnt leave a residue?

Have you tried Method Granite Cleaner? Available from Target, Lowe's etc. I have black granite in my bathroom, and really like this cleaner.

What cloth are you using with the Windex? When cleaning glass old newspaper works best because it doesn't shed lint and it doesn't streak. Don't know if that trick will work on granite tho.

so i guess i should go with a syringe or pipette type instrument then, and make sure im shaking up the nutrients in the bottle before mixing. a digital pH meter probly wouldnt be too bad either, compared to basic pH reagent /color coding kit. although they seem finicky and require lots of care- which sort of foils my plans for quick fertigation routine. as for the process of mixing, i typically will make a 5 gal batch by filling with 4 gals of water or so, then adding FP, then ProTekt, then vinegar. i "stir" with a blast from the hose to mix things around and top off to 5 gals. for irrigation its just protekt then vinegar. i add nutrients according to my "typical" mix ratio, then measure, and adjust as necessary.

This may sound discouraging, but Organic pest-resistance takes a few years. First you must build up the micro-organisms in the soil. Introduce ladybugs, lace wings, and other "good" pest control bugs, while completely eliminating insecticides, including, maybe especially, the Bayer products which poison the pollen and nectar eating insects, etc. Use John and Bobs soil conditioner with regular additions of mulch, organic fertilizers, and compost. I have roses of all colors, and after 5 years am completely pest free. I also have lots of birds, gnat and fly catchers, hummingbirds (they love the small protein rich insects)and the only problem I notice is a small amount of mildew on roses that are in too much shade. I do use Spinosad for occasional chewing/sucking insects brought in by ants, being careful to apply it to unopened buds, and using a little Neem oil with it to make it stick better, because the ants do bring in and guard some virulent pests. There are a few companies that specialize in friendly ecosystem bacteria, bugs, nematodes, etc., and are worth checking out for ridding specific problems without throwing your organic ecosystem out of wack. I would put a cherry wood overmantel, and then a narrow length of trim down the left side of the fireplace, and cap the entire width with the same crown moulding at the same height that the cabinet is now, so that it looks like one total piece with the fireplace as a part of the whole built in. I would not paint anything, and I would leave the arch as it is over the fireplace - it adds some interest and breaks up all the rectangles in the area. I would take the clock down and instead mount a decorative dark iron piece there that compliments the hardware on the cabinet. I would not rely on drapery to try and balance the area - it won't have the same visual weight even if you could come close to the color. For sure I would pull the couch on the left into the seating area, and get an area rug to define that part of the space so that the eye is centered on the cabinet/fireplace part of the wall. If one of the seating pieces is wider, I would have that one be the one facing the fireplace. I am sure you have yet to add end tables and lamps, since you only have task lighting there at the moment, but I would wait to decide on the end tables until you have the seating in place. The overall feel of the space is fresh and clean, and the colors work well. What are you planning for an accent color?

Do you know if your granite was sealed? I had a dark granite and it was lightly sealed. I got a haze when cleaning with anything unless I really rubbed it out. Once the sealer wore off I never had any problems.

I think you have a sealer issue going on... Which would
cause anyone to be frustrated. I am hoping our Granite
experts chime in to help you.

I make my own counter cleaner. 1 part rubbing alcohol and
1 part water. Sometimes I had just one tiny drop of scented
oil. Just a tiny little eye dropper of sandlewood or
cinnamon. (Cinnamon is perfect for the holidays)This works
great for me.

I don't use windex. I did not like the way the counter
looked after. Perhaps it is because my counter is honed
but the windex just felt like a waste of money and energy.

My microfibre cloth is my new best friend!

I use a clean, wet dishrag, maybe dry it with a
towel, and go over it with the microfibre
to take away all the streaks and cloudiness.
Sometimes I just dry it with the microfibre.

I'm finding out that this is the down-side
of dark countertops, OMG, they
sure look great when all polished up.

Perfect Kitchen (blue bottle) from BB&B and a dry microfiber. I spray it directly on the granite and wipe dry with the microfiber. I give an extra buff with the dry microfiber after cleaning if it needs it. Perfect Kitchen is residue-free according to the label.

Try the Method daily cleaner - otherwise, STOP using the Windex,
and try some plain HOT water......

Were your countertops sealed by your fabricator? If so, you should try to
find out exactly what they used (Manufacturer, Brand name. etc) as not all
sealers are made the same.

Boxerpups has a great idea with the home made solution (she's ALWAYS got
cool stuff to share!!! I Love her to death!!!)

i have honed black and i do feel your pain. I think you just have to 'free' yourself from the stress of it all. It IS a love hate type of thing isn't it. Yes I use method as well on my honed.
There really is not much that will hurt this stone, even the matte polish like mine is indestructible. So just keep trying different cleaners till you are happy with one. I will say that I just love the scent of the method granite cleaner. Good luck,

Mixture of 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 water and a microfiber cloth works miracles! Good luck.
