Norcraft cabinets and buycabinets.com
Comments (2)I tried getting Kraftmaid cabinets through buycabinets.com. It turned out to be a huge waste of five months. If the cabinets come out perfect, BuyCabinets is great because of their prices. If there are any problems with your cabinets, be ready for a terrible customer service experience with massive delays. My #1 suggestion: Use a credit card! It sounds like you already got your bid from BC. If you accept the bid, tell them you want to use a credit card. They'll try to charge you an extra 3% fee, which they are not allowed to do. Remind them they cannot charge an additional fee for using a credit card (which they agreed to when they set up their merchant account) and they will be very quick to drop the additional fee. Now you have a good safety net if there are any problems with the cabinets. Do NOT, under any circumstances, give them your bank account information. Best of luck to you! Comments (6)bruins47, I had Diamond cabinets installed last year, shaker-style in Cherry with slab drawers. All plywood construction, doors and drawers are solid cherry. I have a total of 18 boxes, including a tall pantry with slide-out shelves, and side panels around my refrigerator. I did not purchase from Lowe's, but from another local supplier. I hired my own installer. All of the cabinets arrived in good order with no damage. I was actually really pleased with them when I opened the boxes! No issues with the finish or construction. There was an issue with the light rail in that one of the exposed surfaces was not finished, but Diamond replaced those pieces immediately and quickly. One drawer did not glide like it should, and a new glide was sent right away. I think this is where a smaller, independent dealer has an advantage over Home Depot and Lowes ... my request for replacement parts was not lost in the shuffle and my supplier got them to me fast. Those were my only issues ... minor and resolved quickly. I had ordered a bathroom cabinet (not Diamond) from Lowe's a few years back and the experience wasn't a pleasant one, so shopped elsewhere. Good luck with your purchase!...See MoreDoes anybody have a pantry cabinet with drawers?
Comments (9)We have a pull-out pantry from IKEA. It's essentially a vertical stack of drawer boxes inside a tall cabinet. Instead of having separate drawer fronts, they are all covered by a single tall door that is attached to the top and bottom ones. The advantage to this arrangement is that you can see the contents of all the drawers at the same time. Of course you can't see everything unless you pull them all out, but you can see the contents of the top and bottom drawers (because they pull out with the door) and you can see enough of the others to know which one has the canned food, which one has the snacks, where the peanut butter got moved to, etc. This is very handy, especially when there is more than one person using the pantry. With your comparatively large pantry (I mean compared to our 15" wide one), you may well be storing servingware or other non-food items in there. If that's the case, a set of separate drawers at the bottom might work well for you. But for just food storage, I have to say I like having the full-extension drawers behind a single pullout door. (Full extension makes a huge difference.) I like the pullout door much better than a hinged door with rollouts behind it -- it doesn't get whacked by the drawers if you (or your kids) don't get it open all the way before you start rolling out the shelves. As for height, our pullout pantry is something like 71-72" tall. The top shelf is set low enough to hold tall things, so I don't have any trouble seeing into it; the bottom of it is about at chin level on me....See MoreNorcraft vs. Marsh cabinets - is one better?
Comments (2)I met with the other, smaller company Friday. I was there for 3 hours. I really want to work with them - they really took time to understand the project and what's important to me. I don't think I want to go with Marsh though. I have the door sample along with the door sample from Norcraft and the Marsh door edges don't seem as crisp. They carry Cabico, she thinks it will likely be out of my budget (but to go with a better cabinet, I would be willing to go up a bit), but is going to price it. The company I want to work with carries Marsh, Medallion, Cabico, Holiday, Rosewood, and Design Craft. If we can't find something that works without going crazy on the budget, then I can hold my nose and call the other company. But I really don't want to do that. I've been trying to talk my husband into Barker! He's not enthused or motivated to do RTA. With the whole house disassembled in the construction process, we really wouldn't have a place to store and assemble....See Morevtlakehouse
