Help! Need Pictures of loaded Dishdrawers

I posted this also on the appliance forum, but this forum is much more active~

Is there someone out there who is really good at loading their dishdrawers and willing to take a few pix? Especially loaded with glasses, but also a mix of glasses dishes. All the pix in my manual are just dishes, and cups. We don't use cups.

I really liked the look of the dishdrawers, and thought for the 2 of us they would be more practical. I am currently in the process of moving. Last night I unpacked a box of glasses and wanted to wash them before putting them away. I really had a hard time figuring out First how to install the rack.. then efficiently loading a whole load of just glasses. (tall 12oz and short 8oz)

I can easily fit 24-30 glasses in my kitchenaid top rack, I didn't count what I put in the drawer, but it seemed no where near as much.

Are 2 dishdrawers really equivilant to one regular dishwasher? I think I'm going to need a lot of practice loading before having 25 for Christmas dinner!

I have printed them out and am going to practice. I think I will like the dishdrawers once I get used to them. I do remember reading quite a bit about a 'learning' curve, but I always thought geez.. how hard can it be to load a dishwasher! Lesson learned.. easy to load.. harder to load efficiently!!!

Thanks! Not exactly Pit! Plants do mature and I've got mature perennials in there too that will need some room to do their thing LOL!! Also that long bare looking border you see has tiny Petunia, Profusion Zinnia, Marigold, African Daisy and Blue Shrimp Plant seedlings. Not to mention alot of Coreopsis tinctoria and Amaranthus 'Intense Purple' self sown seedlings. The temps have cooled back into the 60 for the last 5 days, low in the 50's and we are expecting another 5 days of such temps!! Everything has just about come to a stand still....grrrrrrrrrrr!! Vera

Momotom What model did you get? I've not had this issue even when the bottom rack is completely loaded and it always is loaded. I think the sensor for the middle rack may be in the door..I think it expects a pass from this arm every few seconds and if it doesn't get it that's when you get the warning(I could be wrong about where this sensor is it could be on the sides too). Do you have anything very tall near the door in the front of the machine? The only time I've gotten the middle arm blocked message is when something in the middle rack was sticking down through it. Chipshot I've had steel cut oats..they are like oatmeal only more oat like and chewy. I think oat bran has more fiber and carbohydrate than the meal and this is why it is so sticky and difficult. If I run cold water in the pan immediately after cooking oatmeal it will come right off...but oat bran just becomes worse. I am lazy and mostly toss in a full tab but I used 1/2 tab all last week. 1/2 tab works well but on some of the loads because they are full and heavy there was some bran left on other items(doesn't happen with full tab)..so I think a full tab is needed when you have difficult soil..however I could have used a more intense cycle with the 1/2 tab and this would have probably taken care of the bran. Then again I tend to really load items on top of each other which is not recommended either..but I do it with not much of a problem. This week I am using Cascade Gel. lgrdh Scroll up to the top of this thread and then down to see chipshots plates. Are yours deeper than these? I have two large plate inserts but have never used them. I meant to order one but ended up receiving two. These hold the plates at an angle so I think they are for tall plates not deep ones. Can your plates fit into the spaces on the right of the bottom rack? They don't have to sit upright to get clean.

Okay Amy, from a woman's standpoint who doesn't understand the intricacies of this important task, I hired experts as it seems you will too. So, if you are trying to get a general idea of how it happens, I can tell you. We just had something similar done 3 weeks ago. But on a MUCH smaller scale, I might add. I had a load bearing wall between the kitchen and DR that we wanted to make more open. It supports at least half of our house. We went from a 36" open doorway to approx 80" open. The GC took measurements and found out the size of the header beam that the load required, structurally. When the time came, the carpenters opened up the walls and ceiling, moved the electrical out of the way and installed two temporary walls on each side of the existing ceiling/walls against the attic joists (we have a single story ranch so this might be different for you)Once everything was in place and the load could be essentially transferred to the temp suppports, they sawed thru the existing beams and installed the new longer heavier beam. I ended up with a new 12" deep header where I used to have two walls and an open doorway. It was either that or go into the attic and cut the joists to install a steel beam to carry the load if I wanted a flat ceiling. I opted for the less scary (to me) and more cost effective header :) Also, I googled 'removing a load bearing wall' and watched a few YouTube videos ahead of time so I could kind of understand the process. i don't have pictures, but my mom can cram quite a bit into her F & P dishwasher drawers. I was really surprised when I saw them in action.

I love our f&p dishdrawers. I had never considered them because I thought they were gimicky when I saw them in the stores. And then I read a thread in the Appliance Forum which totally changed my view--they suddenly became the sensible choice. After 3 1/2 years, I can't imagine being without them.

They do take a while to learn how to load. Bowls don't fit easily--especially bowls with vertical sides. My old dishwasher didn't fit our dinner plates so we got used to using the smaller salad plates instead and that habit stayed with us. If I have the larger plates, I usually place them in the back right corner and flip up the upper shelf. I tend to have the entire left side full of glasses but didn't happen to have as many as usual this time around. If I have a baking pan, such as a 9x13 pyrex or the next size up I put it where the glasses usually go and leave the shelves flipped up. Then I load the glasses wherever they'll fit. If I have large shallow bowls or colanders I'll usually lay them on top of the other dishes if they fit without rubbing the top when closing.

Good luck with your decision. There are negatives with these dishwashers (they are a bit noisier than the super quiet ones) but I feel that the positives blow all the negatives to bits. Perhaps models newer than ours have made some changes? Currently we are a family of 3 but are 4 when my daughter is home from school (fairly often.) I think the dd's make a lot of sense for families of any size since one of the best features is that one drawer can be loaded up and run as soon as it's full while the other drawer is still available for dirty dishes. Some people who don't need to run them often will just leave clean dishes in one of the drawers and use them from there.
