Need help with Blinds and Dimmer switch recommendations
Comments (4)We need to know what space the blinds are going into and what you want from the blinds . As for the dimmers you need to find ones that work with Alexa not IMO a necessary item for better resale since not everyone has Alexa. If you give us more info you will get more help. BTW not all lighting works with dimmers so IMO adress the lighting once you are in and then get the proper dimmers....See Morerewiring a dimmer switch
Comments (8)As shown in the wiring diagram, the dimmer's red (hot) and white (neutral) wires connect to the light, the black is the always-on "hot" wire, and the yellow is ground. Excellent replacement dimmers are the Lutron LED+ (examples: CTCL-153PR-WH "Skylark" and DVCL-153PR-WH "Diva")...See MoreAre dimmer switches required in California?
Comments (4)"I had assumed all the controls would be dimmers because I thought Title 24 required this." The Residential Lighting Guide (page 24) states, "Dimmers give occupants more control over their lighting and reduce energy use. With the exception of small closets 70 ft2 or less, cabinets, drawers, night lights, path lights, step lights and hallways, dimmers or sensors must be used with any JA8 light source." What's JA8? There's also mention of it on page 2 of WHAT’S NEW IN THE 2019 CODE? Fortunately, sites like 1000bulbs.com let one find recessed lights and bulbs (Example: Euri Lighting PAR20 3000K) that meet that JA8 requirements. I've had good luck with Lutron LED+ dimmers. The Lutron DVCL-153PR (example) includes a full-off switch which seems to be required. -- amateur...See MoreHow many dimmer switches I can have in the same spot
Comments (10)I found some dual dimmer switches online for the lights (not sure about led), but I would consider using the two gangs for the lights, and replacing the ceiling fan with one that uses a remote. The remote can usually be mounted on the wall anywhere as it does not need to be wired. The fan is always on/wired, and the remote controls the fan on/off/speed/direction and fan light on/off/dim. I have a WAC fan that has all these controls and even has an option for a smartphone app. Not too expensive. Some fans may have a remote that can be put in the electrical box, or some other type of wall mount unit. If the fan control can fit in one gang, and you can find a dual led dimmer switches to go into the other gang, then both could fit into the 2 gang box as long as you have enough space for all the connections so that it could be done to code. I think it’s a good idea to keep fan controls separate so that it’s easier if/when you decide to change a fan. All the newer tech fans have different ways of operating....See Moremeg711
