Close-up photos of your marble & soapstone edges
Comments (17)Actually when the guy was here to template today we discussed edges, and he told me that for them when working with soapstone it is probably actually easier to go with a bit more of a rounded edge than the standard 1/8" radius their company quotes as standard. And, he told me I didn't want to pay all of that money for the upgrade on soapstone because apparently, even though they do a lot of soapstone counters, the office person uses granite as the standard when figuring out up-charges. (I can see why it might be much more time and effort to make a more rounded edge on granite.) So, we'll see because I think he is going to go a bit more of a radius that the standard, but I won't have to pay the big bucks for it. I think we'll both win because they won't have to be quite so careful not to sand too much off (apparently something quite easy to do), and I'll get closer to what I want. Thanks again for all of your assistance....See MoreGranite BS Alert: One-Piece (no seam) Granite for L-Shape??
Comments (21)Thanks all, very very helpful info. Boxerpups, special thanks for these great photos, would never guess where the seams are in your counters. If things would work out so well for us, I would prefer they use caution with my handpicked slab and add a seam. You make a very good point about my confidence in the fabricator also. I think that must be the true source of my uneasiness. I do feel they are competent because they give all the right answers to questions (that I learned to ask from this forum), and they are well established in this area, but I just didn't click with the salesman and I only overlooked that because our contractor, who is wonderful, overall likes them. The owner also is great. So every time the salesman tells me something, I don't trust him. So I think what I will do is ask about their ability to hide seams and show them your photos if you don't mind--to give them an idea what our expectations are. Then I can put this to rest and move on. Thanks so much again everyone! And please stay tuned for backsplash questions, that is the next step!!...See MoreMarble is in! I love it!! Comments (28)Seam update: The fabricator sent their troubleshooter up today and he worked on the seam for about 2 hours. He did a fantastic job. It's now almost totally smooth, much less noticeable when you run your hand across it. He also polished out a pencil mark the other guys had left when they center-lined the sink. I'd told the company I could live with these things and I wasn't insisting they make someone drive all this way (I said maybe next time someone has a job in Maine they could stop and look at it) but they sent this guy the next week. I am very impressed and totally pleased with the service and my whole experience with them (Gerrity Stone in Massachusetts). LOVE LOVE LOVE my counters!...See MoreWant to see granite, marble, or a marble sink? Many Pics & a ??
Comments (18)palimpsest your link didn't work but I googled the sinks. They are beautiful but probably too pricey given the investment we've already made in plumbing. I'll ask my plumbing person to look into getting me a good price. Thanks! bostonpam the faucet cannot be mounted on the side because the sink is too long and the faucet would be over the cabinet and there would be no way to accommodate plumbing. That was the first suggestion we tried. sprtphntc, I was and am definitely very happy with Imperial. I was going to email and thank you for recommending them today when I had time. So, thanks :) oldbat2be, the TV is actually in the mirror. Like this except we have a frame for our mirror that matches our cabinets. The TV disappears when not in use and it just looks like a mirror:...See Morepip
