So how important is the right mix, anyway? (obsessive spouse)
Comments (19)Fantasic replies, and made me laugh quite a bit, too. Thanks! Ironically, given the tone of the suggestions, I've been trying to ration my online time because I'm studying for my board exams for my independent license in mental health counseling - which is why I'm just getting back to this. Needless to say, I love the idea of marital compost harmony by each just doing one's own thing. Duh, wonder why I didn't think of that before? It had occured to me already that if one builds a 3-bin composter, one could fill the outer two bins simultaneously for the first round of rotting, and then hopefully dump them in the middle when there's enough less bulk. So we'll try it - his & hers composting. :-) BTW, my hubby now has 1 job offer & other interviews still upcoming, so he's much less stressed. Still, why not try the math vs. hunch experiment - sounds like fun. What's the rough balance between leaves & horse manure, anyway? I was going to fudge it with about 5-6 parts leaves to 1 part manure. Plus whatever weeds I have on hand at the time, which is always tons. Maybe as much as 1 part. Lots in our neighborhood are about an acre, so we're close enough for smell problems, or I wouldn't care in the least if I got it wrong. My veggie garden is in the front yard (best sun), though, so the neighbors already think I'm nuts. ...Meanwhile, I find myself eyeing the vast amount of shredding at work (mental health agencies generate tons of shredded paper) and wondering if it would mess up my pile too much. Actually, I am now eyeing anything and everything and wondering about composting it. P.S. FWIW, I know how to use an abacus - I was fascinated by them as a child. I've seen a slide rule, but I don't know how to use one, though....See MoreOK, now that I've seen faucets in real life, here are the final 3
Comments (28)I've got to chime in on this because I need your help. There is currrently a Grohe in the house we just bought that I am looking to replace with a new one since it's old and looks cruddy. I can't decide on the Grohe or Price Pfister. We currently have a PF and when it leaked they sent replacement parts at no cost to me with no hassle. I liked that guarantee. I'm also looking for the 360 degree swivel since my sink is huge. The Grohe LadyLux Plus has a Dual Spray control to switch from spray to regular flow, the Ladylux Cafe you show seems to have a button you have to hold in. I do like the Vinnetta - you can point the head and keep the stream or spray on. Now I have a strange question - on the Grohe, there are red and blue marks (hot/cold), but I can't seem to see if they are on any of the others, the Vinnetta or PF. I've also read that some folks had problems with the pull-down ones like the ones displayed here in that they had to push the hose back up into the sprayer because after a while it wouldn't release up easily. So, bottom line, I need a great guarantee, a 360 swivel, a head that locks spray/stream, one where the hose will last and I was looking for one that goes with a black granite sink (but not chrome, we have horrible hard water)..........any suggestions?...See MoreCoolest recycling cabinet I've seen
Comments (6)I do think that is a really cool recycling set up. As far as compost, after trying different methods for 30 years, I like this pivot out waste container the best. I used an old stainless stockpot on our counter for years and years then graduated to Norpro with filter (I loved the filter) and then to this. The lid lifts off when the door is swung open so there is no lid to deal with and to put down on the counter (my lids got pretty yucky at times.) I can usually get the door open with my pinky when my hands are gunky or are full of scraps. The weight of the pail is not on the door--the pail is supported by a bracket screwed into the cabinet itself. This one if made by Rev a Shelf. I don't find any problem with the plastic liner pail--no odor is retained as far as I can tell. There is no filter but the lid seems to keep the odors contained. I wouldn't want an in-counter system. It's too permanent. What if you decide to switch to something else (i.e. worms or whatever else is coming down the road)? A business friend put this type of system in 25 years ago and stopped using it after a couple of years (not because she stopped composting--she was an avid composter and gardener) and was stuck with the hole in her counter....See MoreWorst SSV Failure I've Ever Seen
Comments (10)The Kitchen Place: I agree, hence my title of this thread. It's a safe bet Wilsonart doesn't want anyone seeing these pictures either. Back in the SSV days, I had a Wilsonart rep in my shop telling me their failed blue glue was a "dead issue". Yeah, you were dead if you used it and got .33 on the dollar reimbursement from Wilsonart and had to do the same job over. In all fairness to Wilsonart, they've been a major player in the surfacing industry for good reason and a couple flopped products do not a bad company make, however, they've made it clear twice now that if their product flops in your kitchen, you're pretty much on your own....See Moreallison0704
