Most of the faucets with the side levers can be installed with the lever on whichever side you prefer. You should definitely check to see if this is true of the one you have chosen.

You can install the faucet so the lever on the Delta Leland sits EITHER in a hole to left or in a hole to the right of the faucet body.

Some faucets with a body-side attached lever can be set to have the lever on either side, some even allow operation from middle front. Not all one-handle faucets have all of these options. Check the spec sheets.

Consider this. On two handle faucets cold water, which is used more often than hot water is on the right side. So, I think that holding objects in the left hand and turning the water on with the right would just come naturally.

Sammi, I went from a single faucet/handle to the Leland with side handle. It can go on either side but I preferred mine on the right because...I'm left handed and would hold a glass in my left hand if I was filling it, my dishes are washed in the left side of my sink and I wanted to be able to use my left hand and pull the nozzle handle down to wash/rinse and control the water with my right hand. This is also the reason my hot water dispenser is on the right. Put it on the side that works best for you and your sink layout. Here is a pic of mine and I love it.

I originally had the Delta Waterfall which had a separate side lever like that. I also have the Kohler Executive Chef sink (which I think is the same sink as the sink in the picture above, or one very similar), where the lever really has to be on the right side of the faucet or it would be strange-looking and impractical. So, if you approach the sink with a measuring cup in your right hand to fill, for instance, you have to use your left hand to turn on the water, which is awkward, and even more awkward to have to put it either under the stream of water or over the faucet to turn it off.

That faucet didn't last long.

I replaced it with a Kohler Forte faucet, which has a top lever. I filled the extra hole that I now had with a soap dispenser. I like it soooooo much better.

I had a similar issue. My handle has always been on the right, but for my old one I had to push out to turn on the water, and to my dismay on my new one I had to push in. It felt weird for about 1 week, then I got used to it. I bet you would too.

(I do feel like I need a little sign for guests though.. :)

Both DH and myself are righties. I generally hold things with my left hand and turn faucet on with my right. However, my DH claims he turns it on with his left. This was a big consideration for me when we went to install it. DH wanted it on the right, and so it is, but now he wishes it was on the left. I prefer it on the right. After all, I'm the one who cleans up in there.

I turn my faucet on with my right FOOT LOL. Seriously though, a Tapmaster is absolute magic and you never have to clean a gunky faucet.

I could never figure out why anyone would need a tapmaster, since I just turn the faucet on with my wrist if my hands are gunky. But now I may have to reconsider :)

Upon further reflection, the likely reason for holding the glass in my right hand is because they are in a cabinet that opens with the left hand. I hold measuring cups in my left hand.

I feel quite certain I'd always want to use the sprayer in my right hand. I assume my faucet can be insalled with the lever on either side, but then the question is- which side? I'm also quite certain that dh is not going to be happy if I change my mind after its installed.

I have the Floriano which has its handle on the right side. If I'm washing my hands or filling something light like a glass, I use my right hand to operate the handle. However, if I'm holding a pot or large pan, I often find that I hold the heavy item in my right hand, and use the lever with my left. But that's the beauty of the high arc faucet! It's easy to reach under and use the other hand without getting wet or it being akward.

I tend to turn the faucet on with my right hand (if I'm going to wash soemthing, I'd probably hold the item in my left hand and then grab the sponge with my right hand after turing the water on anyway).

That said, if I happened to be in a kitchen with the lever on the left, I'd probably get used to turning it on with my left hand. I think things and how we use them tend to become second nature over time when they become a part of our daily usage (like the whole DW on the right vs. left conundrum! LOL).

So many things that are never presented to us- by the end most of us should be super qualified KD's if not GC's!

At least I assume none of you have to deal with knobs in your new kitchens- don't know if it's cuz I'm now officially over 50, or the arthritis in my hands has worsened, but turning the friggin knobs on my basement sink in our temporary kitchen is a pain (literally). I forget what my faucet really looks like (may get installed Tuesday if I'm lucky), but regardless if I have to do a little hand switching, it's going to be so easy to flip a lever!

With some faucets, like the Vinatta, you can actually have the handle set in the front CENTER. I have a Vinatta, handle on the right, and I've noticed sometimes it would be nice to grab it from either side. I don't know if the LeLand has the same option, but it might be worth looking into.

Since my wife is right handed and I am left handed, we will never have a side mount faucet. Only on the top.

And when our sons visit, one is left handed, his wife is right handed and the other two are right handed.

I am right handed and dh is left handed and we both turn the water on with the LEFT hand. We discovered this the same way, but with a different faucet.

We had the lever moved to the left.

Dh installed our new faucet last night (delta leland) and the verdict is that it seems completely natural to reach under/through the arc to operate the lever.

I'm a righty and installed my handle on the left (way back when). Liked it.

If it bugs you, switch it. A hassle but not impossible. Seems we adapt pretty quickly t whatever we have.

I noticed the OP made her decision...but, now I have a related question...

For those of you with the Vinnata handle mounted in the front center...how is it working out? I've only ever had a top-mounted handle or separate handles and was wondering if the handle gets in the way when it's mounted in the front center...

The comments about pulling the faucet down with your right hand got me thinking...I usually turn the faucet on with my right hand, but I pullout our current faucet with my right hand too and find myself adjusting the temperature with my left hand... It's not an issue right now since our current faucet has a top mounted handle, but the Vinnata will have a side mounted (unless we decide to mount it in the front center)

So, it sounds like the best compromise would be to mount the handle in the middle (DH doesn't care)...but it looks awkward there! I'd get used to the looks, but how does it "feel" when working with it?

My Graff Corsica faucet handle can be mounted on either the right or front center. It's now temporarily installed and the sub who did it, mounted the handle facing front center (as per the pictures in the installation manual). I actually like it this way; at times it's even fun and reminds me of working with a joy stick! I haven't yet decided though whether or not I want to be more traditional and mount it on the right, once it's time for permanent installation.

I have a Hansgrohe HighArc faucet with a large single "D" sink (Blanco Silgranite). Obviously the faucet should be mounted on the side. Since I'm right-handed I chose the right side after a lot of consideration.

There were countertop complications and placing the faucet on the left was proposed. After considerable more thought I became more convinced to have it on the right. If it were on the left the lever would have to be rotated back to the backsplash. (Rotate forward to get warmer water.) On the right it's rotated toward the sink and provides cold water by default. Rotate back to get warmer water.

From my new practical experience with a side-postitioned, side-lever faucet with a single sink I have come to the conclusion that it should be on your "natural" side (for this setup). When doing the simple functions, such as filling a glass of water, it doesn't really make much difference; it's pretty easy to adjust either way. For more complex tasks I usually turn on the faucet and use both hands; in this case I want the faucet to be on my "natural" side where I can more easily control the initial temperature and stream direction. Finally, this faucet is a pull-down without a lock-down spray mode. Again, I want the faucet on my natural side for washing down the large sink, etc. It's more awkward to reach across the sink to pull down and use the faucet if it is on my "un-natural" side. Most of the hand movements will be with the faucet head.
