Yet another question re: cabinet pulls

I'm finding myself in the same difficult dilemma many other people have had regarding the size and number of cabinet pulls to purchase. What I have decided thus far is that I would like Restoration Hardware's Hanson knobs in ORB to go on all my cabinet doors (99% are above the counter ) and our pantry doors. The remaining cabinets are drawers and will have Restoration Hardware's Hanson pulls in ORB. Our kitchen is quite small so we don't have that many drawers.

The dilemma is which size/sizes to go with since RH gives you so many options (3,4,6,8,10,and 12 inch pulls). I will also need pulls for our KA panelled DW and our Liebehr Refrigerator (refrigerator door on top and freezer door on bottom).

The following are the approx. dimensions of my drawers:

Dish drawers-23 1/2"

2- 17" drawers

2-14 1/2" drawers

3-26" pots and pans drawers

1-22" tilt out drawer in front of the sink

Refigerator door-46 1/2 " Length

Freezer door- 29" Length

I was thinking of putting 6" puls on all the drawers except the 2- 14 1/2 drawers. They would get 4" pulls and 10 or 12" pulls on the refrig./freezer. The other plan was to put 4" pulls on all the drawers (2 pulls on each of the 26" drawers )and 6" pulls on the dish drawers and 10 or 12" pulls on the refrig./freezer. Also, should the pulls for the refrigerator and freezer door be the same size even though each door is a different length?

I'm sorry this post is so lengthy and that I'm so indecisive but this is my first and maybe only kitchen renovation that I may ever get a chance to do. Thank you for taking the time out to read my post and/or offer any insight!

I'm doing the pull/knob combo also (at least until I actually tell my kd my decision). My pulls are in the 5.5" range. Good luck with your decision.

I've read that you are not to clean the fiilter media...ever. I built my own biofilter...not a skippy but I am about to add one due to all the good things I have heard about them. My pond is in the stage of green pea soup also. I have heard it is a stage that ponds go through this time of year. I am trying the quilt batting. I have it in the top layer of my biofilter and it is catching quite a bit of the algae. I purchased mine from Michaels. I also am using it around my pump. I am letting it run two hours around the pump because it gets pretty dirty quickly. This works great to catch all the small algae. You have to be careful to not catch the batting in the pump. I guess we will see how good it works. I'm thinking about building something that would add some type of barrier between the batting and pump to avoid this problem. Probably a project for tomorrow. Good luck! If anyone has good ideas to get the pond clear I am open to the hints as well!

Yet another Mealy Bug Question

Mealy bugs and root mealy bugs are not the same, the former inhabits the plant and the upper soil layer as you describe. Root mealies do not leave the soil (except when they move to another plant of course). So no, I don't think you need to repeatedly examine the whole root ball, treating the plant and uppermost soil should be enough. It is usually possible to get rid of them except if they are well established, if so it is often easier to throw away the plant. I have had 2 severe invasions in the past, but now I see less than 5 individuals each year (but they die quickly). (These are not from old colonies but are "immigrants" from new plants etc.) You should check your other plants over the next weeks (and preferably spray them just in case), the young mealy bugs are almost invisible to the naked eye and move surprisingly fast, so they could have migrated even if you did not see anything the first time.

I agree - I'm in a similar position and it's totally overwhelming. Regarding quality, when I went into a knob store with thousands of choices, they didn't push the expensive ones - said the it didn't really make a difference for general use. Top Knobs and Amerock seem to be popular manufacturers. But if you're looking for something simple, you could check at Home Depot or IKEA - they have multiple packs that are reasonable and look wonderful - I used them in my bathroom. FYI in the end, I'm glad I didn't make a decision before seeing my kitchen cabinets - I would have gone with knobs on the uppers and now that I see them, I definitely want pulls - and now that I've waited I'm not going to choose the pulls until my granite and appliances are in so I can get a better idea of the color I want and how it's going to look. I don't want the door/drawer hardware to be a focal point, just to blend (although on my pantry wall, I think I might do something different and more decorative.)

Hi all! Kats--that's so funny that you should mention that because DH has suggested a tapestry for our entry hall wall--a huge 11 x 14 wall that's kind of hidden behind the chandelier chain. It's above the entry to our livingroom (which is more like a sitting room since it's so small.) We were thinking of a more traditional tapestry but an older rug is soooo much better. (Can you tell I'm a bit rug-obsessed?) The rug I'm considering for the entry hall might be too small for the wall. I'll have to look into it. I'm not sure what size I should be looking for on that wall, or whether I should be looking for multiple pieces. That spot isn't a high priority right now as we need so many other things but it's a great thought. Val--I can't hazard a guess either. I just can't believe that I hadn't thought about the wear factor in the entry hall before now. But I guess if it's lasted this long, then who knows? I'm leaning more toward the Tibetan rug right now. I was worried about mixing styles but, at this point, I have so many different rug styles in our house that it probably shouldn't be a concern. It's the colors that are unifying everything. Well, hopefully. My original idea of sky blue and chocolate has taken a few turns along the way (it's now sapphire/peacock and bronze/caramel) but it still makes me smile when I see what I've picked so far. Refrigerator/Freezer: what is the length (height?) of each door? I would probably scale them to the door if there's a big difference in size otherwise, probably the same.

But, I recommend getting a couple in each size and holding them up to the drawers (and refrigerator & freezer) to see how they look. Don't buy all of them until you're sure what you want. You can use the always fashionable blue pulls until you've decided (blue painter's tape)!

I just picked up the Felicity and Hanson pulls and knobs from RH yesterday and my family loves the Felicity style. But we too are stuck with what size pull for the different drawers. We seem to like the 8" size. My drawers will be 26", 31", 24" and 18". I will go back and get the pulls in each size to check out.

What finish are you going with? How does this go with your cabinets and granite?
