tile suggestions with calcutta gold vanity top and tub surround?
Comments (5)Can't find the notes from that tile order. We had a hard time finding a good match with the lighter coloured veining in the Porcelain tiles to match the slabs we purchased. I spend one afternoon driving around Burnaby and lucked out on a small lot find. The store had 345 square feet and I only needed 150. My client spent two days with different layouts in the living room and another 4 hours with their designer to get it down to a perfect layout. We had one tile corner fail while setting and after the fact my steam shower ventilation system needed to be fined tuned and we lost another. Luck would have it we had one exact copy and one near perfect match. We discovered that there was 20 different tiles in total and they could be laid out to look like a full slab. These clients have asked me not to share photo's of this shower - I'm sorry I can't share any pictures with you. After doing my best work and not being allowed to showcase it I'm much more careful about addressing this with new clients. Now I ask for permission before we even start or we pass on the job....See MoreDuchamp: your porcelain Calcutta Gold tile source?
Comments (2)Socal sister, I'm looking at the invoice (the tile sample itself doesn't say much), and it says 8" x 16" Serena Calacatta Wall (also I got the 2" x 8" Bullnoses). The item number says AZ816SERCAL. It was $3.95 a square foot. Like I said it's gorgeous. If you can't find it using my description, feel free to call the tile place I purchased it from, and I'm sure they'll be able to help you. Champion Tile of Bedford Hills (914) 666-2895. Comments (2)Find local wholesaler in your area and call to see if you can find it for less. I bought my 9x18 honed calacatta gold from a place in northern Jersey and my 4x4 honed from a place in southern Jersey for $13 and $15 respectively. You're not going to get any better than that and you'll be limited by available square footage at those prices because they were for the last amounts in their respective lots (i.e., a clearance price that I was told was only slightly above their cost). It is flawless stone, however. (Even $20 is inexpensive and I would question what it would look like and would require a sizable sample set for inspection, particularly to avoid the black flecks I have seen in more recent lots. Keep in mind that it's critical that you get stone that is all from the same lot, and if your price of $20 doesn't include stone all from the same lot, I'd walk away. Comments (35)hellonasty, I fell hard for the barcode tiles. When I found out the price, I told DH that we couldn't spend that much on tiles. So I looked for months and months. I went to every tile store in 150 miles. I brought home other samples. Nothing spoke to me. DH totally surprised me with a dozen of them for my birthday, and asked, "Will this be enough of them?" Yes, Yes, OMG Yes! I planned the whole backsplash around those tiles. All the rest of the tiles came in at under $100. The week at the wet saw cutting down the field tiles was so worth it....See More- 13 years ago
