12' wide pullout pantry - knob or pull?

We have a 12" wide by 61" high pullout pantry and I am trying to decide whether to use a knob or a bin pull on it. Also wondering where to put it...at the top or in the middle where the horizontal stile is. Any input and photos would be greatly appreciated.

I would use a pull. A handle pull would be more ergonomic than a bin pull. I would put it at the center horizontal stile, if that is at waist level.

I am having a unit made which will have three sections, which will all measure each approx. 24" wide and 78" high. The cabinet on the left will have an open middle section for my microwave, and a lower and upper cabinet w/reg. size cabinet doors and I am using knobs. The other two cabinets, one a pantry, and one a broom closet, will have one door each approx. 22" wide by 72" high. On these doors I am using a pull on each door that measures three inch centers, but 5 1/2" total in length and it will match the knobs in design. I think a knob would get lost on a tall door, but I have seen photos of taller doors with a knob when the door was the width of yours. My doors have a u-groove design across the top and bottom, and on the sides which gives a 2" border, and I am placing the pull in the middle of the length on this 2" space. My unit will not be ready for a couple of weeks or I would show you a photo.

I'm trying to picture how pull out shelves will be usable in upper cabinets. The pull outs are like shallow drawers but inside the cabinets, right? If it is above eye level, you still can't see all contents. I'm more a visual person... if I don't see it, I'll forget about it. I will have 24" and 27" deep pantry in my new kitchen. I've seen pantries that are 12 in or less wide that when you pull out the door, all shelves are revealed and you have to look at it from the side to get to the contents (picture filler spice cabinets that go next to your cooktop, except from floor to ceiling and wider). That's what I thought I wanted. However, my cabinet maker has a pretty good solution (I think). He will put 12" deep shelves in the pantry that will be movable and movable shelves (wire baskets?) on the doors. The shelves below eye level (or waist level) will be pullouts and the upper ones will be shelves. I like it because everything is adjustable. I think the hardware that he showed me is the one like the link that Talley_sue provided. Although I heard the supplier Rockler tends to run more expensive. Our cabinets are being made right now and won't be in our kitchen until May (fingers crossed) or else I would post a picture. Anyway, this is a long winded way of saying maybe you might want to consider doing half shelves and movable shelves on the door. And if it is "cavernous", maybe you can put in a small light inside the cabinet. HTH

so many people recommended hafele it was overwhelming (not just here), so I did buy two of them. I installed them this weekend side-by-side. They are easy to install and work great. With all the different size racks, I utilized the cabinet space very well. Thanks for the comments. I just wanted to update this for any else considering pantry pull-outs.

I am trying to pull together the last few details for our kitchen remodel. One thing I haven't decided on was the handle for the pull out pantry cabinet. It sits next to the french door paneled fridge. I have 18" handles from top knobs on the three door panels. I am wondering how much handle is really necessary and comfortable to open these type of cabinets. I have a small kitchen and this will be my main pantry so I will be in and out of it frequently. It is 17" wide-Any suggestions or pics would be greatly appreciated? Thanks

"I think the premise is to have pulls be *no more than* 1/3 the drawer length." I think designers invent "rules" like this just to have rules. I have never paid much attention to such nonsense. There is a limit, of course, to how wide pulls can be. You don't want them to interfere with drawer operation. Other than that, anything that looks good to you is just fine. As for variations in length, don't worry about it. There is no rule that all pulls have to be the same size, although the same general design is good. One thing about pantry pulls. You are probably going to be opening pantry doors with arms full of groceries, so a pull you can operate with an elbow, wrist, knee, or one pinky finger is a good choice.

I have a 12" wide pullout and used a bar pull. The pullout is 84" tall and it is made to look like the two doors on the rollout pantry (one door for the rollouts and another for the fixed shelf cabinet above). We put the pull at the top of the lower panel so that it is at a good height for your hand when you reach out -- just about shoulder height. If teh top of your pullout is too tall to be comfortable for you to reach and pull, you might want to look at the side, but pulling straight from the center top would probably be easier.

Are you talking about the kind where the whole pantry pulls out? If you are I can say they get heavy and it will be easier to use a long pull.
