Thanks for your reply...the only one I've found there *in the last few months* without the actual lip has a little swollen edge--is that what you're thinking of? We looked at it but it was too thick to go between the mirrors (mirror door and wall mirror -- we are having a retro wall o'mirror in our master bath, complete with recessed flat mirrored med. cab. door)...that's all they seem to have now. Can you think of anywhere else? Or can anyone else remember anything?

Mine are very thin. Aluminum I think. Like wafers?

There is a vertical low back (which we gorilla-glued) and then the horizontal pull with a very thin lip along the front edge -- no other way to grab them.

Sounds like you're describing something thicker.

We used them on the bottom of the Robern med cabinet doors which are also recessed above a beadboard cap but without even so much as a finger's clearance.

I've seen them in different thicknesses. We have thicker ones on the kitchen cabinets in our apartment.

Have you tried ebay??? I got 25 knobs for free that I was using for my new kitchen...turns out I needed 13 more than I thought! My friend who gave them to me said those were the only ones she had (she installs knobs on new homes for a builder and had extras)...I phoned the manufacturer and while they came sealed in these plastic bags with the m'fer's name on it...the manu' said they never made them!! I had no way to find them....so I put oil rubbed bronze knob on a search and lo and behold my exact knobs were on there! I bought 15 for under less than $30! I bet you can find them on ebay and you can buy them single or more through their stores...the store I got them through was called

"myhomehardware" but try others as well!

Is it this Forms + Surfaces pull? There are 3 lengths, from 1" to 3.5", in a silver aluminum finish or anodized dark.

We put bigger Sugatsune pulls on some mirrored doors in my bedroom WIC.

Thanks, you all. So rococo, they weren't the "Grip" handles? That's the closest I can see at Ikea now. I seem to remember one like you describe, but I can't find it there anymore.

lmhall, I've checked eBay, but not finding anything. Maybe I'll try a few more combionations of words. I've found Deltana handles for mirror doors by googling, but they have the lip like the Ikea Sprecket handles do.

Daki, you're on the right wavelength, because I have Hafele handles very similar to these in our kitchen, actually :), and I have even mounted them right up at the edge of the drawer/cabs. But these aren't what I'm looking for...

gizmonike, the F&S pull is the closest so far, and if we can't find the (evidently discontinued) Ikea pulls, we may go with these. The little cylinder would be fine with our design anyway. Thank you so much for finding something that will work if we can't get that thing that's nagging at me in the back of my head.

Man, every Dwell kitchen had these for the past two years, but of course they're never named. And now they're gone. The F&S might be the best way to go...

i've been looking for these as well. the ikea strecket was all that i could find. the F+S are close but i was hoping to find something with a flat straight edge. the search continues. odd that i've never seen a technical name for this type of pull.

That's also close, ef--it's pretty similar to the F&S pull--the F&S is less expensive (compared to Mockett :)), so I'll probably go with them, unless I can find *exactly* what it is I'm remembering. Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong and it always did have that little cylindrical bulge at the end all along...?

And splinky, thanks for correcting my Ikea name--I guess I was thinking "now is the time on Spreckets when we dance" :)

(the phrase "my Ikea name" just gave me a funny idea for a website--like "what's your pirate name" -- a generator for Ikea names...what would mine be? I like Sprecket...:))

Those links do help--I'm beginning to think that there was always a little cylindrical lip on the ones I thought were just pieces of metal...I will go with one of those, then.

splinky, I believe they go by the handle "tab pulls".

Hiya flyleft! I'm pretty sure that they've always had the little roll at the end. That is what would make it easy to grip. Fancy opening a drawer - or a mirror door for that matter - by pinching a thin piece of metal to pull it open. The roll is what makes it easier to handle. Installed, they still do look very sleek and very minimalist, fear not.

I have a chest of drawers btw that has not these but another style of very flat thin handle with no such roll and boy! you have to clutch those handles fiercely but oh! so delicately to open the drawers. At the first couple of tries your fingers are just going to slide off. Annoying.

Excellent, mindstorm, thanks...I will go with the roll ones then. Do you think a chrome one would be o.k.? I can find those at amazon under "tab pull" -- or should a mirror have a stainless one? The other hardware in the room (faucet, pulls of drawers underneath) is chrome, so I'm thinking maybe chrome would actually be *better* than the stainless I originally envisioned...yes?

flyleft, i have just the configuration you are describing re: recessed medicine cabinet (and bath storage cabinet) with full mirror door. My recommendation - put in the chrome handles. Not only to mesh with the other "handles" but because the chrome will better integrate with the mirrored doors and will just disappear against it. Our handles are the little cylinders-with-divots and they just disappear - a happy accident since I'd really okayed the chrome on these cabinets only to better integrate with the other shiny things in the bathroom! They do get mucky but only at the rate at which the mirror does so you'll be cleaning both at the same rate :-)

Anecdotally, in the kitchen, our glass doors have an aluminum frame which is substantially lighter colored than is stainless steel. I'd picked stainless handles for the kitchen cabinets all the way around - so since the wood cabs had stainless, I naturally got stainless for these aluminum edged glass door cabinets too thinking that they'd integrate correctly. Mistake. Nobody will every see that the stainless pulls on the glass door corroborate the stainless pulls everywhere else - what even a blind man will see is that the glass door handle is so much darker and stark against the aluminum of the frame there. I should have picked aluminum or brushed chrome handles for the glass doors. Oh well. A correction for another time - I've put paid to the kitchen project. :-)

So is this for the bathroom? I do hope you'll be supplying pictures of this project as it sounds amazing. What did you do about the teak counter?
