Can you have seating on 3 sides and not interfere with the work paths in your kitchen? That would be pretty unusual.

It doesn't sound like you have enough counter space on the left side of the sink...You would be crowding and splashing on the person seated on that side.

Counterheight overhang is recommended to be 15" or more. Sounds like you're only planning 12"?

You said: "can't figure out a way to make this look more than 4 cabinets" Is there a word or 2 missing, or am I just too dense to understand what you're asking?

Not sure how to curve 3 sides unless you make one large arc, forming most of a circle.

You know, I have to wonder what you are going to do with the dirty pots and pans while you eat, if that's going to be your only sink. I can't visualize any way to make it appetizing to have a sink in the kitchen table, I'm afraid. It's one thing to have some sit-and-chat-with-the-cook seating on an island with a sink, but it's a whole 'nother thing if that's your main eating area, too.

Wow Laxsupermom - you are good !! You read my mind and yes that is exactly how it is designed. I posted a link to the layout of my kitchen - it's a little blurry but I hope you can get a good idea of it. Yes I plan on using those cabinets under the island only for xmas platters and etc, nothing for everyday use. I mainly designed this island for 2 reasons, one I didn't have money in the budget to make a nook in the kitchen for a table and two because I want the 3 kids to eat at it for breakfast and lunch and use the dining room for our family dinners. It really can seat 7 so at parties it will be okay for that reason. I suppose if I am cooking I can put dirty pots on the other counter behind the island to get them out of the way. I'm pretty much set on this design since I don't have room for a kitchen table because the small cabinets next to the patio door in the kitchen is a computer desk that we have to have since we want the kids using the internet in the main living area of the house.

Do you have any suggestions for the way my granite countertop should be cut and designed? I still want to do the french legs on each corner to make it look somewhat like a country table, do you think I am stuck with just a big 5x7' square slab?

Is this layout set in stone? Is there any chance of moving appliances and fixtures? Any reason you're not using the right side wall for much? If any changes are possible, would you consider adding a prep sink?

I'd get that sink off of the island if at all possible. I really like rhome410's version with the sink on the lower wall. If you're actually going to use the island as your main kitchen seating, then it might make sense to break it up a bit with some levels and different materials to dileneate the space. Have the main seating area be lower chair height in bucther block like a farm table(serves as a baking height section also) and have the prep space be the higher in granite with a prep sink on it. I'm a big proponent of one level islands, but with an island/continent so large, it really does make sense to have multiple levels. You might even do a 3 level island with a single round "perching" glass section at bar height as well, or use a higher section as a location for a microwave across from the fridge..
