Anyone have 24" deep island with main kitchen sink?
Comments (8)I'm adding a link to a GW kitchen from last year--done in an older home, with all the challenges and restrictions inherent. The homeowner created a magnificent kitchen, including a narrow island, which houses sink and DW. It's slightly wider than your requirements, with a fairly small sink, but take a look--you might be able to adjust your plan to make it work. And, the owner is still graciously replying to posts, in case you have questions. Here is a link that might be useful: AnneNJ's 1850s kitchen...See MoreCan a kitchen island be TOO big???
Comments (29)We have a 13x5’ island and love it. But our kitchen is essentially a galley kitchen that is open to the living room. The other side of the island is just seating with some extra storage underneath for rarely used items. Any wider than 5’ and I don’t think my 5’4” self could clean it (and it’s a slight struggle at the very center of the 5’). We would probably feel differently if it was in the middle of our kitchen and we had to walk around it to access things....See MoreCan you show me your 7 x 5 kitchen island?
Comments (30)Here is one in progress shot of one that is 63” x 108”. Both adults are tall, and can reach the center. We tested that out first. :) That was important, because the range top is in the island. Even though the pop up downdraft will shield a lot of the spatters from the rest, some will always get through. The extra deep cabinets along the back have roll outs that hold a ton of cookware. They only wanted seating on one short end, for a couple of stools....See MoreNeed Help With Kitchen Island Lighting - 14' Ceilings, 13.5'X5' Island
Comments (10)Thank you for the responses. I guess a little more context would have been helpful! Let me see if I can fill in some of the gaps. Here is a layout of the dining and kitchen areas. It's not exact since this was the architect layout initially and we have made some changes on the fly during the construction - it's very close. The island is big and was how we wanted it. We have 5 kids. This tends to be our gathering place and with everyone wanting a hand in cooking, it just fit - and we have no regrets. Same for the ceiling height. That was also our choice and what we wanted to do - as the construction is going along...we absolutely love it! Definitely no lack of choices...it's just about finding something that really speaks to us. Less worried about price point than finding something that we love - although our budget is not unlimited. We selected this for above the dining table: Hubbardton Forge Etch We are considering this for the island Modern Forms Cosmic The lighting store suggested this above the island. We like this...but are having second thoughts. Hubbardton Forge Sling Front Entry Door Sconces: Hubbardton Forge Shadow Box Tall We don't have a lot of other fixtures in the house. A lot of recessed lights, accent lights, and ceiling fans. If you have any suggestions on foyer lighting, I would appreciate it as well. We don't want the traditional look of a large chandelier and similar to the island...looked at so many things that just didn't get us to where we wanted to go...and now just considering recessed lights. I hope this helped clarify things a little. Thanks again for all of your comments! Bobby...See Moremissleah
