I just bought and had installed a whirlpool side by side fridge the only on that would fit in my space. I waited 7.5 months to get it because I needed black , 2 days in the noise is driving me nuts it is the motor I can tell shuts off when either door opens . I locked the ice water dispenser on the door and it stopped but was that a fluke? but the others here want to use that feature. I looked into ways to sound proof the noise and will try that , like putting a rubber matt under it and sound proofing material behind it on the wall as what I have read the motor noise is in the air ( make sense who knows ) , the decibel reading , using a phone app, was 52 - 69 that was holding the phone in different places. I emailed my rep no response and now I know why they are all louder I think, I miss my 24 year old one ( except the way it was too cold inside who wants fresh frozen veggies ha ha ) why does this have to be very upsetting.

Carmela39 The ice issue is not a problem if you intend to use the dispenser as you described. It is not convenient to just put your hand into the ice tray to "get a handfull", otherwise it operates like any other auto icemaker/dispenser. The cabinet vs full depth is an appearence issue if the grey side of the cabinet is unappealing to you. You will see a full 6 inches of the painted side and additionally the half inch or so of the door gasket and then the depth of the stainless door with the full depth Samsung refrigerator with 24 inch deep cabinets (standard). Recessing the rear wall as I have indicated is the option many have taken (I was unable to do this since I live in an attached townhouse and this was the attached wall). If your contractor suggests this will be difficult I would defer to him (the issue is more than making the wall a few inches narrower). Regarding the availability of the reported CD Samsung french door model I refer you to the posting "Please Help- French Door Refrigerator Questions" on 7/18/07 at 16:11. Within this thread (near the end) is a posting by Britter making reference to the "new CD model". There were additional inquiries as others are also interested in this model. I would suggest contacting your dealer or his factory rep. for more information/verification. Finally, I have some photos of my installation but I am unaware of the method of posting/sharing them. As I pointed out in your thread, the CD model will only project out about 18 or 20 inches. The KBFS22 model that I have is several inches deeper to there is more room freezer drawerr. On the other hand, I think wire baskets may give better air flow for more rapid cooldowns and more even temps throughout the compartment.

I would just like to comment even though this is an older thread. French door refrigerators with in-the-door ice dispensers are known to have problems. This is due to the ice maker being located in the refrigerator area rather than the freezer area. All brands have problems. We had to replace our Samsung french door refrigerator after two years because of recurrent problems with ice buildup around the ice maker making it unusable. Samsung repairmen came out several times, the last time even replacing the entire ice maker but to no avail. After much research I learned that these all have problems despite the brand and although not everyone who has a French door refrigerator with an in-the-door ice dispenser will have problems, these types of refrigerators have an inordinate amount of issues necessitating repair or replacement. We finally bought a French door refrigerator with the ice maker in the bottom and have no problems.
