Are you literally doing the painting? Or would you be ordering cabinets in those colors?

I ask because if you are painting them yourself, you can always wait till after the fact, right? And paint them once they are up and you have a complete "visual" of what everything looks like.

I think your color idea sounds gorgeous... I'm just not sure about what happens at the corner of the "L" configuration, either. Is there some way you can do a Photoshop of it? It would hopefully at least give you a good idea? Or, low tech it by painting a piece of poster board in the pale blue-green color and taping it over the end cabinet that would be that color? I do stuff like that all the time and it really helps me get a visual.

One other suggestion, maybe you could do your upper cabinets one color and your lower cabinets the other color? We KNOW that works! ;o)

Our island has the back done in a stained oak beadboard, and the sides painted off white. I think there might be a picture in my blog (even though some of the finishing work is not done, it can give you an idea of one piece with 2 colors. I'll add the link for you to peek at. HTH

Tiskers, I'm going to paint them myself. I can wait till they're installed to paint them. But I'm trying to decide if I should paint the interiors white, or match the color of the exteriors. I'd like to get painting on the interiors soon, so I need to decide on the outside colors. I like the idea of painting posterboard or scrap pieces of wood and setting them in the corner. I do stuff like that all the time too. I have to see things in front of me to picture them.

Would you be doing all the cabs the blue or just the lowers?

I would go ahead and do all the insides white. It'll be cleaner and brighter, and then your options are open.

I agree with painting all the interiors white. Then you can decide the rest later, and I think once you get to that point in your project, you'll know by then what you want to do.

Thanks for your suggestions, I like the idea of white insides. Do base cabinets usually have painted interiors? I know the uppers will because they'll have glass doors. I don't think I've ever seen painted base interiors.

budge, I was picturing having the uppers and bases both be the same color. I'm not sure if they'd look good in blue-green -- I think they would, separated by the white marble in between. But the question is whether it would look weird with white cabinets at a right angle to it in the "L". I like all white kitchens, but I also like the idea of spicing things up a little with some color.... I guess I'll have to do some trials.

Are the cabinet boxes plywood? I'm assuming they're not Melamine, or you wouldn't be considering painting them. I would want some kind of finish on them, so they're protected and easy to clean. My painted cabinets have a clear lacquer finish over the birch plywood inside...Uppers and lowers, since I don't have glass doors.
