liebherr fridges - don't buy!
Comments (33)It pains me to read a review like zydecobb12's. When my husband and I were shopping for a new refrigerator seven years ago, we looked at all the high-end models and read all the reviews. Of course, reviews of all brands were mixed. When we went to look at the actual products, we found that only the Liebherr featured a very simple design and very accessible components. My husband said "This is the one for us. Anything that could go wrong is visible (if you move the refrigerator out from the wall) and seems fixable." Of course the freezer seized up during a spell of hot humid weather. We melted the ice and presto. Easy peasy, especially if one hasn't tossed out the Owner's Manual. No need for a service call. (We didn't order the ice maker since reviews of every cooling device on the Web includes many ice-maker horror stories.) Our Liebherr (freestanding, 30" wide, bottom freezer) has been otherwise flawless. I don't work for Leibherr. Our unit might still go pouf some day. I hate writing product reviews. But for some reason I find myself provoked to offer this rebuttal. Now I'll sign off. Best wishes to everyone searching for the right product....See MoreDo you have an in-door ice/water dispenser in your fridge?
Comments (43)We have one and use it ALL the time. I don’t use the water though - it runs too slow for me. Last summer, though, we were having problems with the ice flapper - yes, that’s it’s real name. Apparently it wasn’t closing completely every time we got ice and was letting warm air leak up into the freezer. That caused some ice melting/fusing of cubes. So I finally called the repair guy and he got me a new flapper. Total charges about $110. (And then my electric bill went down cause my freezer had been running excessively! I should have noticed that, but I just didn’t. Duh.) My refrigerator is about 7 years old and it’s a Frigidaire....See MoreHigh end fridge/freezer or freezer only w/ NO ice maker?
Comments (30)Regarding longevity, our last fridge, a Whirlpool, was 18 years old... and we are giving it away as it's still very nice and running perfectly. The ice maker had a couple minor repairs, and never once did anything leak. Fridge before that was also reasonably priced, and when I sold the home I sold it with the house, also older model, ice maker never broke, still in working order. However, it should be noted these were older models, therefore manufactured back when quality control was better, IMO. I honestly can't speak to that now. It does concern me, though. I replaced 18 year old still working perfectly washer and dryer set with a new set a few months ago, and bought an extended warranty (something I never did before, and never needed). Hope we won't need it. This time around we purchased a Sub Zero to replace our Whirlpool - wanted a much larger fridge, and built-in. FWIW, it was not remotely $20,000. We purchased it for the 2 condensers, the reputation, and the fact it's simply a nicer fridge as regards what is inside. We are an older couple, with savings for retirement, and the fridge was affordable to us, albeit I would never consider it inexpensive....See MoreWill I regret skipping water/ice in the fridge door?
Comments (31)Never had it, and don't want it. We wouldn't even allow our fridge to be connected to the water line at all. (Although it is built to be capable of automatic ice making and inside water dispensing.) The water line systems are the biggest failure point of fridges, so to avoid the possibility of such floods and repairs, we didn't connect it to water at all. Instead, we have an RO system at our sink that we use. We live in an area with very polluted city water, so RO is a health necessity for ice making, water drinking, and cooking. (Yet another reason we didn't want our fridge connected to city water.)...See Moremisntroya
