It really does help it to visualize- and there are so many things we don't think about- ie it never occurred to me to think about having to open two doors to get dinner plates!

I have another question for you- why did you decide to add the shelves (in the first picture) as a separate entity instead of as a corner shelf unit? (I am waiting for my corner shelf unit to be built- and haven't given the carpenter my plans yet)AND, then how are those supports attached? Did you tile AROUND them or after them? AND, is that a corner shelf unit at the end of the second picture? Could you show another pic of that? I had posted a request for pics of corner shelves, but had received no response, so would love to see what it looks like. Again, hard to visualize, but so great to see it 'in person'.

Raehelen, I can't really remember the process that yielded the open shelves as opposed to a corner shelf unit. I think I thought they would be longer than they are -- I'm not good with visualizing things based on a number. It's difficult to describe how the support is attached. The tile went on first, with an area left open for the top of the bracket. But the bottom of the bracket is floated over the tile. In other words, there's a niche in the tile where the top of the support attaches; the rest of the support is thinner and actually over the tile.

Your kitchen is lovely. I too am interested in your shelving. I am planning 3 27" shelves between a cabinet run and an adjacent wall. How long are your wall shelves? They look so nice.

Chmpgntst, they look great! I remember your thread vividly b/c we were trying to make the same decision! We chose two doors for our 24" glass doored base cabinet like you did, but we stuck with one door for the cabinets in our beverage area. There, because there's two cabinets next to eachother, having four doors was too busy. The beverage area still needs the corbels installed under the cabinets, but we're getting there soon.

I guess I just wanted to make the point that context can influence how many doors to pick. Chmpgntst, excellent choice to go for the two doors on your cabinets! They look perfect there.

Alku, you are so right that context is a big consideration. I agree that 4 12-inch doors next to each other in your bev center would have been a lot! In my case, because the 24-inch cabs weren't paired, I would have ended up with a whole lot of single doors, none next to each other. I think we can pat ourselves on the back for both making good decisions in our spaces. :-)

Lightlystarched, my shelves are just a tad under 24 inches long. I love having them. If I get motivated, I may start changing everything out for different holidays or seasons. Maybe. :-) I'm just getting around to window treatments now, five months after everything else was finished.

Thanks for posting the pics. It's nice to see the outcome of previously discussed stuff. And I agree you made the best choice. It wouldn't even occur to me to think they were tall and skinny. Your whole kitchen looks fabulous, btw. The wider doors work great in alku's case because of it being like a large hutch for glass stemware (so alku, follow up when you get those corbels on!), so yeah, context is key. Beautiful kitchen, just beautiful, looks flawless.
