Is 12 inches too deep for a kitchen sink?

Hello,

We are really cranking through our remodel and I would appreciate anyone's input about our sink. We are having a stainless steel apron front sink installed, and our sheet metal fabricator thinks it's a bit unusual to have such a deep sink. He said that 7-8" is normal, and 10" is considered deep. Is 12" just bizarre, or would one think "hmm, that's handy!" Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. This will be the only sink in the kitchen, and it's one large bowl.

Thanks so much!
