Is 24' reach enough reach for main sink faucet?

I tend to think that many of the pull-downs are huge. Mine would be placed in a 8x4 island that is one level and open to the dining/living areas.

I read that some people are going with the bar faucet to get one that is a little smaller. I have been eyeing the Delta Allora. The reach of the bar faucet version is 24". I will have a single sink, 10" deep.

Is the reach going to be enough?

Ok, just saw that the bar and the main sink faucets are 24" :-)

Main difference is 15 9/16 height for main sink vs. 14 1/2 for the bar faucet.

BUT - this concerns me.... The spread from sink to spout is 9 7/8 on the main sink and 6 7/8 on the bar faucet. Would this difference matter?

Yes. I have a bar type faucet that reaches about 6" fromt he center of the back rise. The faucet looks great and is just what I wanted there. Hoewver, it is too close to the back of the sink and water splashes out the back when washing hands or rinsing anything. It is the one thing we will change in our new kitchen. Ours is mounted at the corner, so I think it needs more reach than if it were center back, but I still think it would be too short for prep work.

Oh, good. I think that is closer. The Rohl is 19.6 plus 1.5 overhang, plus .75 cabinet plus aproximately 2 inches to the faucet is 23.8 if you put it all the way against the front. I made a mock-up cabinet with a salt shaker as the handle at 21.75" and I am almost needing to lean to touch it. So I think I should switch to the Kohler Bakersfield and ask the fabricator to move it as forward as possible in the cabinet and the hole as far forward in the predrilled sink hole. I might even shave off some of the countertop overhang so that I don't have to lean. Do you have the eased edge and is yours the standard 1.5" overhang?

"Shelf back" or shelf mount are the technical terms for the installation linked to in the post above and in the two posts from yesterday. The connection point between the faucet and the supply plumbing is farther forward than the wall itself, and so you have what is called a shelf, in installation terms, even though it might not be useful as a shelf. It's more like what we would call a backsplash today. A hollow backsplash. Being hollow, it lets you run the supply line inside it. In kitchens this is not a common setup but it once was. Lavatory sinks are more common today with a shelf-back. Ikea and Kohler are just a couple that come to mind. Covering the connection point and its unfinished gap are escutcheons (or flanges, another term, with a broader meaning).

I have a 13" spout with my farm sink. 9 wouldn't be enough for me. But it depends where the faucet will be in relation to the sink. I have a wall mount faucet, so I needed to span the space behind the sink. A deck mount will be different. The sink is about 18" wide (with 1.5" for the back rim), so depending on how close to the sink you mount the faucet, a 9.25 spout will reach less than halfway, right? It also depneds whether you will have some kind of hose or sprayer. If you do, then spout reach is less important. Francy

We bought a Kohler Vinnata 10 years ago when we remodeled our home. There is a full size version and a prep sink version. We opted for the smaller prep sink because like you, I thought the full size version was way too big. Our sink is a Shaw's farmhouse. I know its 30" long, but I can't remember how wide it is....18" sounds about right. It's a plenty big sink. Anyway, I wish we had gone with the bigger faucet. Our problem has been the amount of splashing behind the sink, specifically around the faucet itself. There is always water pooled there and I attribute it to the fact the faucet doesn't reach far enough into the sink. I will say other than the splashing problem, the faucet has been great. Water flow is fine and the hose reaches everywhere it needs to. We are building a new house now and we will definitely be putting in a larger faucet with a deeper reach.

Some of these terms are getting mixed up, I think.

The 24-inch figure is the LENGTH that the hose pulls out of the faucet from your pulldown/pullout.

"Reach" pertains to, and is the distance from where your faucet's center point is attached to the counter to the point that water actually comes out of the SPIGOT.

A wet-bar size faucet will NOT "reach" far enough into an ordinary main sink. Smaller wet-bar faucets are generally used for much smaller sinks or bowls.

It would be rare that you would need a hose longer than 24 inches to reach and spray or fill anything from either a main kitchen size faucet or a wet-bar size faucet.

Thanks, I think I will go for the regular size sink faucet, and continue looking for a smaller one...

I struggled a the same issues for a long time... many of the faucets seemed HUGE & tall. I finally went with the KWC Systema in stainless... this was my splurge for the kitchen. They make both a bar & kitchen sink -- I went with the kitchen sink & I Love IT!

Ohhhhhhhh, momroviamam...if I wasn't already over budget (too far over budget to justify), I would be all over that faucet. It is perfect!
