Just when you start to see light at end of tunnel..bammm

Long story short....past two weeks..hardwood laid...cabinets in...granite in.... really coming together with whole house remodel after long haul and lots of things going wrong...get a load of this.... third refrigerator in two weeks appears.... yes problems with first two.... GE PROFILE...SIDE BY SIDE.. it is installed....and i have it covered with plastic sheet on hardwood floors that are covered with paper and carboard while the hardwood guys finish the rest of my house... who knew i should have been babysitting the refrigerator..it a 36 hoour window the damn thing leaked through the ice/water dispenser.... enough to damage some floor boards...solid hardwood 3/4 inch ..i freaked out when i found it..... took three beach towels to clean up the mess...it was hiding under the carboard....so now..i have a claim in with general electrics insurance company....waiting for their service guy to appear on thursday.... had the service people come out from where i purchased the thing say they cant see anything wrong with the refrigerator....(they turned the water back on as i had turned it off) i told them i want this thing out of my house....that was friday...and now ge says the service dept needs to come out and verify it was a malfunction and not a install problem.(perhaps not getting air out of the lines?????... sigh...what a mess..... this is not going to rain on my parade...was so excited about coming close to the end..... sigh...... pep talk please.... ps..when we started the remodel...we found mold underneath the floors in kitchen from a old leak in dishwasher..had to gut the kitchen to the studs....last thing we want now is to have same problem from the water that came out of the refrigerator..... anythoughts on how to handle GE...and the appliance center where this was purchased.... been already on phone with managers ect....waiting now ....

I've had wood in two kitchens. I've had problems with a leaky F&P dishwasher. The wood dried out, but over time, it's started cupping. I have decided that I will probably NEVER put wood in my kitchen again.

As for GE. Tell them you want your wood replaced. They will tell you to get a couple of estimates. Do it. They'll cut you a check. Stay on them, stay firm, stay nice on the phone. Just keep repeating over and over what will make you happy and don't settle for anything less.

It just hurts. Can you tell me what brand refrig's were the first two, and what company(ies)you purchased from? (Our refrig has just gone on the blink.)

If it's any consolation, I put in all tile in my kitchen and everyday wish I had wood, especially in my town!

Sherilynn may be right about insisting on the wood replacement - when I was researching it, it seems that leaks can cause cupping that takes a while to settle down, and you sure as heck do not want a repeat on your mold issue (been there, done that - OUCH!) That being said, ask around about this. Perhaps it can just be an area, and not the whole enchilada.

You might be tempted with the holidays upon us to settle for less than a satisfactory solution.

Just remember that there will be many years beyond this one, so - go for the best!

I really enjoyed reading this post! I'm probably guilty of buying ALL THE PLANTZ!! I started with a couple then a few more... Because I'm lucky to find so many different types in my area at reasonable prices I take risks in buying ones that may or may not do well here. I figure it's worth the risk. I had no idea how lucky I am to find such a variety, but it's rare to find a big established plant. Although I just passed on a 5 foot (on trellis) multi flowering carnosa because I couldn't fit it in the car... I have a couple of Graveyard hoyas, most I've replaced and trying again. (Or will if I find another one for sale) I don't think I'll get another lauterbachii again even though they turn up all the time. Mine grew fast and tall but died. Not sure if it was underwatering or the cold but as I since found out it grows huge with next to no chance of me ever seeing flowers here I really cant be bothered buying it again. Since joining this group and learning "if in doubt, unpot and check roots and/or chop" I haven't lost many plants, except poor polyneura that got cooked in the last heatwave :( (I bought a new one in case my cuttings didn't take but they did!)

This was so much information! Thank you! I want to pull out what I found to be the most interesting and post it on it's own. "Just as the body was formed and operates on a priority basis, so it heals on a priority basis. This means that the most important parts of the body get the healing attention before the less vital tissues. We can't force the body to place its healing priority on weight loss when in fact the liver is about to die, for example. The liver is more important to your body than the extra pounds. So all the energies of the body go to heal the liver and weight loss will stop. The body will not compromise what health and vitality it does have in one part of the body to bring about healing in another. In other words, the body will not "rob Peter to pay Paul." So you may be eating nutritionally and exercising and you start out losing some weight. But then all of a sudden, you become stuck at a certain weight -- the needle on the scale won't budge anymore. The body is rejoicing on the inside and saying things like, "You know, we have all this extra energy now because Mr. Doughnut here has decided to start eating right and exercising -- let's take some of our new available energy and start the healing process on his congested liver!" So the body will take all the available energy and channel it into the liver. As a result the weight loss stops. The body will NOT take away any energy needed for daily activities and maintenance. It will only take what is left over to start the healing process. It's my belief that the body does not completely heal one part before moving on to the next item on its priority list. Rather, it heals a part to the degree that it is no longer a priority. At that point the healing attention is shifted to the part of the body that is now in most need of repair. In the above example, once the liver has been cleansed somewhat, the body will refocus its attention on other areas... perhaps back to weight loss. During my weight loss period, I would hit plateaus where it seemed like I'd never lose another pound. I lost 10 pounds and then nothing for 3 weeks. During that time I woke up one morning and my arthritis was gone and my blood sugar had stabilized somewhat. If you keep on your diet and exercise program, you will eventually lose all the weight you want. A healthy body is not overweight. Remember, "Always strive for health and the weight loss will happen!"

That drought-resistant shrubs and trees in SoCal need undisturbed native soil to establish symbiotic relationships with soil fungi to truly go unwatered for 6 months of the year. Mycorrhizae don't typically need to be bought at a nursery, but all our yards sure need it to be in the soil for plants to do their best through summer/fall. Xeric plants need to get established, then they seem to do best when largely left alone, with not much more than some mulch, compost teas in the rainy season and light pruning to thrive. Masanobu Fukuoka foresaw this in One Straw Revolution (a book as radical in some ways as anything else the 70s had to offer) when he advocated abandoning modern ag methodologies, especially tilling, focusing instead on preserving soil food web ecologies in the topsoil. I doubted it for years, but modern soil science and my experiences sure have made me a believer in it

Upstairs, I want to keep the master and have 3 other bedrooms. I want the two smaller rooms and the bonus room area to be kids rooms, just need the smaller ones a little bigger and the big one a little smaller. There is already a laundry room on the 2nd floor. The library downstairs will be a library/study. I want it a comfy reading area with wall to wall bookshelves for all of our books! It won't be an office. The movie room is just a want- we all love watching movies and it's a fun place for kids to hang out especially at sleep overs and such. It can certainly be cut out if needed. I guess I was thinking we could do it cheaper if we did things ourselves and weren't paying a huge builder's fee. We would basically be doing it for cost on his end. Thanks for the feedback!

Yikes! Assuming the first two fridges were also GE Profile?- is there anyway you can get a different model? Though it sounds like you may have the odds in your favour- if you have gone through three lemons already!

I haven't added the ice maker to my fairly basic fridge, cuz I have an 'irrational' fear of the same thing happening. My fridge backs onto the wall separating kitchen from living room, so I can picture water seeping into hardwood everywhere.

Definitely stay on top of GE until you get satisfaction. I have been dealing with Panasonic about an OTR MW that I bought last December- and I am still waiting for the mounting brackets which are on back order- I have a file on which I started writing dates- NAMES- work order #'s and short notes of conversations (long story- missing brackets just the latest...) I am also of the school- catch more flies with honey than vinegar- but remain firm.

IMO, you should not pay for the floor repair. It should be THEIR (GE)insurance paying for the hardwood floor reapair.

There have been many debates about wood v tile in the kitchen. Other than a little tough on standing on the tile in the kitchen, I don't see any other drawbacks to tile. You can always place a rug under where you do most of the standing.

I love the look of wood in the kitchen, but for practicality reasons, I chose tile. I had a couple of NEW DW leaks & the TILE was a lifesaver. I just wiped the water off the floor.

the first one that was delivered was not defective ...was just the wrong appliance brought to my home...the second was the same as the one with the problem...ge profile ...that ones doors didnt line up and...the trim all around the water dispenser was pulled off and broken and they agreed to give me a new one..... i didnt buy a used refrigerator!!! i will stay on top of GE and hope they do cut me a check and then move foward...... part that is bothering me is the floor guy says to fix it right i need to pull up all the wood even that is not wet to the wall so it is back to "perfect" and not just piece meal a section in..... to do that i must take some cabinets out!! yikes...the thought is to stressful....
