what size grout line for subway tile? and recs for white grout?
Comments (14)If you have tight grout lines, you would be using unsanded grout, which looks whiter than the sanded version of the same color. We recently used TEX XT grout in Bright White--#910 in our bathrooms, and it looks very white. The large format Porcelanosa tile we used in our MB is a very white, very glossy tile, so we wanted a white grout that matched well. The XT is supposed to be more stain resistant (than other grouts?), so hopefully our white grout will be less likely to discolor (since it looks so pretty right now!). It's not necessary to seal it, but you can (with a solvent-based sealer). We sealed ours for added protection/peace-of-mind....See MoreOff White Counters With White Subway Tile?
Comments (6)Smart thinking on your part since there are more hues of white than any other color. And boy can that bite you if you bring two whites with different hues togeather. Ask installer if they have a scrap of quartz from your counter. With scrap in hand,go to tile shop where you can lay various tile and grout on quartz. Without a piece of original quartz, your best option is see if the tile shop will loan a rear seat load of samples to bring home. I reccomend this wherther you go with white or colored back splash. It's weird how a color can change when another color is brought alongside. Since colors aren't true on a computer screen,I didn't go to your link to make reccomendations. Also take into consideration,it's easier to atain good results by combining complementary colors than harmonizing colors when both have to be chosen without side by side trial. ....See MoreWhite vs gray grout for white subway tiles in shower
Comments (4)I like the contrasting gray grout, but for resale (in my area - mostly 100 year old homes, HCOL) I'd definitely go with matching (white) grout (well, just a bit off white to hide dirt). While many do like the gray grout on white tile, plenty are turned off by it. I doubt many buyers would be actually turned off by white grout on white tile. Its just 'safer,' at least according to real estate agents where I live (I asked many when I was doing my master bath). And, if the tile work isn't very straight, the contrasting color will magnify that problem. With similar color grout you won't notice tile issues as much. I guess the best thing to do - if you are concerned about resale - is ask a real estate broker in your town. HTH!...See MoreBest white grout for white subway tile?
Comments (13)We used Maipei "Frost." It's a very, very light gray, but IMO it "reads" as white. It provides a teeny tiny bit of contrast from the subway tile so that you can see the edges/pattern of the tile. But it's not dark at all. My problem with white is that to my eye, it appears slightly yellow. When we were re-tiling 3 upstairs bathrooms this Spring, I made the mistake of choosing white for 1 bathroom, and after it was done, I immediately changed to Frost for the other 2. The Frost looks a lot better. You can have your tile pro make you a sample board to confirm your choice....See Morecoleen3201118
